Introduction
Over	the	years,	technology	has	changed	our	world	and	daily	lives.	Today	
technology	plays	an	important	role	in	our	society.	It	affecs the	way	we	
learn,	think	and	communicate	with	each	other.	[Allen,	2019]

Access	to	the	internet	
Internet	appeared	already	in	the	1960s	to	share	information	by	government	
researches.	However	only	in	1983	it	is	considered	official	birthday	of	internet	as	
previously	the	various	computer	networks	did	not	have	official	standard	way	how

Internet	is	a	very	powerful	platform	that	has	changed	the	way	we	communicate	
and	do	business.	It	has	become	a	Universal	source	of	information	for	millions	of

Access	to	the	internet	
However	internet	,	we	must	say,	is	changing	all	the	time.	Recently	there	are	two	
innovations	that	has	improved	interment	usage:	the	social	web	and	mobile	
technology.	
Social	web	such	as	Facebook,	WhatsApp,	Twitter	etc.	has	grown	into	a	worldwide	
network	used	by	millions	of	active	users.	
Mobile	technology	is	rapidly	evolving	over	the	years	too:	it	has	improved	from	a	
simple	device	used	only	for	messaging	and	phone	calls	into	multitasking	device	–
internet	browsing,	GPS	navigation,	instant	messaging	etc.	(Macwan 2017)

Digital	devices	
Today,	there	are	a	variety	of	different	digital	devices	such	as	mobile	phones,	
laptops,	tablets	etc.	that	give	us	access	to	the	internet.

variety	of	different	devices	to	go	online.	However	mobile	devices	
are	the	most	popular	and	it	increased	by	8,6%	between	2018	and

Nowadays,	Google	is	the	absolute	leader	of	search	engine	worldwidewith	more	
than	90%.	However,	over	the	time	more	and	more	different	search	engines	
appeared.	And	for	example,	China	and	Russia	have	their	own	favorites.

What	customers	buy	online
Today	ecommerce	is	getting	more	and	more	popular	as	a	result	naturally	number	of	
online	shoppers	rises	with	it.	Online	consumers	see	many	shopping	events	online	
such	as	Black	Friday,	Amazon	Prime	Day	,	Cyber	Monday	that	make	huge	tempting

Consumer	trends
Technology	is	part	of	almost	every	aspect	of	daily	life	now.	With	technology	getting	
more	and	more	advanced,	consumer’s	use	of	technology	definitely	grew	for	the	last	
five	years.
- Internet	is	accessible	on	almost	every	digital	device
- Mobile	phone	use	increased	by	8,6%	from	2018-2019.

Summary
Firstly,	appearance	of	internet.	Internet	is	a	very	powerful	platform	that	has	
changed	the	way	we	communicate	and	do	business.	By	January	2020	we	had	4,54	
billion	internet	users	out	of	7,75	billion	of	human	population.(Kemp,	2020)
Statistics	shows	that	internet	speed	is	exceptionally	growing		every	year	since	
1985.(Patterson,	2014)
Rapid	growths	of	more	advanced	digital	devices	such	as	smart	phones,	laptops,	
tablets,	smart	watches	allow	consumer	to	search	for	a	huge	variety	of	information.	
Moreover	through	digital	devices	people	are	able	to	communicate	with	each	other	
more	easier.	For	example	WhatsApp,	Messenger,	Skype	and	different	platforms	are	
used	everyday.	Platforms	such	as	Facebook	or	LinkedIn	helps	to	find	jobs	or	
promote	your	own	business.
There	is	a	massive	increase	of	owning	a	digital	device	between	2008-2018.	For	
example	older	models	of	smart	phones	are	getting	cheaper	and	more	accessible.	
Statistics	shows	that	owning	a	smart	phone	grew	by	78%	between	2008-2018.	(Aol

Nowadays	consumers	are	able	to	search	for	information	on	a	different	search	
engines.	Statistics	shows	that	Google	is	the	most	used	search	engine	worldwide.

Today	ecommerce	is	getting	more	and	more	popular.	Having	so	many	people	
owning	a	digital	device	there	is	a	no	surprise	that	online	shopping	became	very	
popular	and	convenient.	Today	we	can	do	any	type	of	shopping	without	having	to	
leave	the	house.	With	so	many	online	shopping	choices	consumer	can	demand	
competitive	pricing	,	top	quality	service	and	fast	delivery.	(Oberlo n.d)
The	entire	entertainment	industry	has	been	radically	transformed.	Consumers	are	
able	to	get	entertainment	through	social	media	or	computer	games.	Broadcasting	
and	television	have	become	digitalized	and	accessible	to	everyone.		(Goodman,	
2020)
All	things	considered,	today	digital	technology	has	transformed	our	lives	by	adding	
innumerable	benefits	to	it.	It	has	positively	impact	the	way	we	used	to	work,	shop,	
travel,	communicate	and	entertain	ourselves.
