3. Results: 83% increase in profits
when using herbicide
Farmers found average net profits increased by 83% when using herbicides on
monocrop cassava compared to best practice weeding.

4. 1. Select a suitable site for cultivation
2. Prepare the vegetation for glyphosate application by
slashing if too long.
3. Apply glyphosate at label rate to deal with
perennial weeds. Wait for 14 days

Herbicide Calculator
• Enter the Dosage of the Herbicide to be sprayed in Liter per
Hectare as recommended on the herbicide label
• Enter the Volume of Water dispensed on 10m x 10m plot. To get
the Volume of Water sprayed on a 10m x 10m plot:
• Measure a plot of 10m x 10m =100m2
• Fill water in your knapsack spray tank and spray the measured
area normally on a straight path with the nozzle height at your
knee level.
• Enter the Volume of Water dispensed from your knapsack spray
tank on the 10m x 10m plot.
• Enter the Capacity of your knapsack spray tank in Liters.
• Press Calculate Volume to get the exact dosage of the herbicide
that should be added into your knapsack spray tank before filling
the tank with water for spraying.

26. Lessons Learnt
1. Innovations on their own cannot lead to agricultural
transformation. You need to communicate
2. Partnership is key. Partnership at all levels– private sector,
government, etc. We found value in linking with projects so no
working in silos
3. The R4D/P4D approach of the project as enshrined in the
proposal is the way to go if our goal is to create impact on farm
level. The Delivery component must be clearly defined.
