Essay on Basketball
Since I was a child, I loved watching basketball games. I remember when I was around six years old, there was a game on the t.v taking place at
OAKA in Greece, and my favorite team AEK was playing against PANATHINAIKOS. The game was going to start at ten o'clock and my dad didn't
want me to stay awake to watch it. I started crying as always– when I wanted something I was doing that –and my dad couldn't see me crying so he
agreed and said that we were going to watch the game together. I was so happy about that, and I said thanks to my father. All my favorite players were
playing and the game was unbelievable. I knew from that night, that I wanted to be a basketball player when I grew up....show more content...
After two years things were not better. I had to make a choise. The school was not going so good and I was so sad. I couldn't study and I couldn't
think of anything else but playing basketball. My mom was worrying about me all the time. She asked me a lot of times, what was bothering me
but I was afraid to tell her, because I was not sure if I was right. I started changing, I was rude to everybody, I was fighting all the time with my
family and my friends and I became more close to my self. I had to do something about my situation and choose what I wanted to do.
One day a friend of mine gave me a tape with some rock songs to listen to, and I went up to my bedroom to play it. I put the tape in the radio and there
was the answer. I listened to a song called "Hart Of Steel" and that was it. The song said " stand and fight, live by your heart, there is always one
more time, I am not afraid to die, stand and fight, say what you feel, born with the hart of steel"and I did what I felt like. I went downstairs to my
father and I decided to tell him that I made my choice. I told him that the next day I was going to join the team that I wanted to play in, and nobody
was going to stop me doing that! It was the first time that I did what I felt and what I wanted to do and I was not scared of my father. I do not know
what he felt that time but in his eyes I saw a shine. Maybe I did what he wanted me to do, I mean to make a

Informative Essay About Basketball
What It Takes
Intro
Ever wonder what it takes to be a college athlete? Sure, the games and events are fun to watch but what exactly goes into preparing for these events
and games? I will tell you exactly what it takes and what a college basketball player goes through because all the audience sees are the flashy views of
the sport. However, we will now take a look at the sport from the other side of the ball.
Background
The game of basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891. The original equipment of the game was a literal peach basket and a soccer ball.
By 1892 the first official game of basketball was played in a YMCA in New York. Then by 1895 basketball was a standard sport and began to be
played all around even within high schools and colleges. In 1906 rims and back boards were made and by 1949 basketball could be played
professionally. As the sport came along the skill level ofplayers increased and the game became flashier. Numerous professional legends were
showcases like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley. Now the game is super complex and skill driven.
Sure, the sport is exciting to watch, but there is a vast number of things that the player puts into the sport. A college basketball player puts countless
hours into the sport. With the combined time of treatment, practice, and lifting weights, that makes for a full load of work to go along with their school
work. The audience in which watching the game does not see the extra time and effort put

Basketball Passion
Everybody has a favorite sport that they love with a passion. My favorite sport is basketball. Basketball has been my favorite sport since I was about 2
or 3 years old. I have been playing basketball all my life. When I was about 2 or 3 I knew immediately when I touched the ball, I fell in love with
shooting hoops. My parents recognized that I loved basketball so they brought me a little basketball goal for my birthday. Until this day I love playing
basketball. Now every day on my spare time I go outside to my basketball goal and play with my friends and family and I show them new basketball
moves I can do. I think I am the best person on the court when I play other people. When I get done after all that I get ready for bed and

Basketball And Basketball : My Life Of Basketball
Taking a retrospective look at my life history, as a child I recall having all this energy and being very hands on. As a child, we did not have much to
play with. So, anything that I was able to lay my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot the
basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to
the store when we get back you will play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out and we hung
it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It
was hard shooting the basketball in the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways. Thanks to
great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was
a sport that my mother taught me to keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as well as
working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my friends and family. I have three boys and one girl and they
all love basketball. Basketball has taken over our house. Our three boys play basketball for the school, so we as a family attend to all the games.
Basketball for me is not only a hobby its where I release stress. For example, playing basketball with other team mates gives me a chance to get rid of
all negative energy that has piled up throughout the week.
Nature and nurture shaping one's character. Nature and nurture affect one's character in countless ways. In my daily life, I've come across people on
the basketball court as well as interacted with some at work that have a different idea about how to approach issues in life. Taking in to consideration
nurture there are some parents that believe their children should grow up and be leaders and to demonstrate it in their lives. Features like this are
acquired when you grow up with and associate with people.
Nature is the different environments and the

Basketball Is A Popular And Beloved Sport Essay
Basketball is a very popular and beloved sport that is still being played today. Michael Jordan, who played for the Washington Wizards and the
Chicago Bulls once said, "Just play, have fun, and enjoy the game" (BrainyQuote 2016). Whether playing with friends for fun or by professionals for
entertainment or simply watching from home, basketball is enjoyed all over the world. Beginning with a unique history, basketball has evolved over
time from a simple idea into a professional career choice for those with the unique skill set.
During the winter of 1892 in a town in Massachusetts a physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, at a YMCA school created a game where
young men could play indoors apart from going outside in the freezing cold. To be prepared for the game, Dr. Naismith came up with some rules for
the game, gathered two peach baskets for hoops, a soccer ball, becoming the first basketball game in history. The young men did not know how to
play the game, but they still had fun doing it. The game only lasted thirty minutes with the final score being 1 point to 0 points. During this game,
William R. Chase became the first person to ever score in a basketball game (Faurschou, 2016).
Dr. Naismith came up with thirteen rules. While four out of the thirteen rules that he came up with, are no longer followed in today 's version of
basketball, the nine that are left were slightly modified and are still in use today.
The original thirteen rules are as follows:

My Experience Of Playing Basketball
The first time I played basketball was like the first time finding myself. I started playing basketball when I was very young and I fell in love with it. I
was really really good from a young age, I had an innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the running
and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered was when I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship
game against Lakeland. Lakeland was always super good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This game was
different. It was 32–28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had one good player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest
challenge of my life because this kid was the best. I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32–31 with about
a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got the ball back and scored so now the score was 33–32 their
lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time out and brings us together and says "now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this team so
let's not let it slip away" everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do something. So, we made a play so I could score to win the game. I
was so nervous; the play was called "2". the play would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and then someone would
come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in practice a couple days prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the
time out ended and we went back on the court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the ball and we all get in position,
now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit before we start the play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point
guard yells out "2" and my heart drops even more. but I do what I'm supposed to and pop up and then here comes the screen. I set my guy up the cut
back door. I got a perfect pass from my team mate and I go up for the shot and I get hammered. Someone fouled me really hard and I fell and I had no
idea if it went

What Does Basketball Mean To Me Essay
Basketball is not just a sport, to me it is a lifestyle; there is something about shooting the orange sphere through the net and hearing that "swoosh" sound
that can force any problem to instantly go away. Nothing can compare to the satisfaction that is felt when stepping onto the court or feeling the padded
outer–layer of the ball clash with the tips of my fingers after bouncing up from the ground. The court is a second home to me. I have been playing
basketball since I was eight years old. It seemed to come as second nature. Once I reached middle school, I competed for a spot on the seventh grade
girls basketball team and earned myself a spot. Those girls meant everything to me. I can recall practices when we got off task and goofed around for a
bit, but we always got back to work....show more content...
With extracurricular activities comes minimal alone time, time to complete schoolwork, sleep, or time spent with friends and family. It seems
that I have made it work by keeping my priorities in order while maintaining a grade point average of 3.8 or higher. Although it becomes difficult to
balance schoolwork, stress levels, and practice, it has been done. An average teenager needs anywhere from eight to ten hours of sleep. I can
recall multiple nights when I received seven or less hours of sleep due to unfinished schoolwork, but when I am out on the court schoolwork is not
a concern. It is as if it slips from my mind, for the time being, because improving my game becomes my top priority. Being out on the court gives
me a break from all other responsibilities outside of basketball. My only responsibility while on the court is putting the ball into the hoop.
Basketball will always have a place in my heart. The basketball court will always be my second home, a place I feel most comfortable, and a place to
meet the most remarkable people that I have and will ever

Playing Basketball Essay
Playing Basketball
Being part of the basketball clique in high school helped me learn the intrapersonal and social communication skills I use today. As a child playing
basketball was my favorite activity or hobby. It's also the way I met a lot of my good friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met. I
have met them through playing basketball.. Whether they were on my team, the opposing team or just fans in the crowd who admired my play. Not
only has basketball helped me gain friends, but basketball also taught me a lot about life. There are many aspects of life that coincide with basketball.
For instance basketball is a team game and an individual game. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The...show more content...
Me on the other hand, I had older friends that I had already made through basketball. So when I got to high school even though I was nervous I had a
clique that I fit and hung out with . As I hung out more with the basketball team I started to break out of my shell. Some of the great experiences I
remember were the bus rides to games. We use to make up songs or just crack jokes on each other. My clique in high school was well know we were
known as the ?ballers?. We got along with all the other people at school. My basketball clique went everywhere together we even had a weekly
senior ditch day to the beach. We went to all the dances in groups and had fun. By the end of my four years I gained about ten brothers that I knew
I could rely on and call for anything at any time. From freshman year to the time I graduated I became a whole new person thanks to my teammates
and all my experiences that I shared with them. I learned how to talk in both a one on one and group situation. Thanks to basketball I had developed
the fundamental skills to communicate to friends and family. Being the point guard on the team I had to relay the message from the coach to the
other teammates. So I learned how to communicate and be heard in a big group. Like when I saw something that I thought someone was doing wrong
I had to speak up and let them know what they need to day. I then took those skills to my everyday real life situations. I no longer held my tongue

I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up
from a nap, when I received a text message from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I read the
message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to
stay busy to pass the time, so I begin to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the dishes in
what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while washing the dishes. This was very new for me. I even vacuumed

I let my teammates know that I called next after the guys that were sitting. Everyone seemed excited, my coach had the biggest smile on her face. After
about 15 minutes of shooting around it was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court and
established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360
glance it seemed as though all the guys that we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the guys. I
wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and
tricks. It seemed like they were trying to embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin beating the
boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I
heard one of their friends on the sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously didn 't want that to
happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. We
walked off the court with our heads held high, but I could tell that the way the guys were acting bother my

Personal Essay- Basketball
Basketball has played a big role in my life thus far. The game of basketball to me means everything that I want to have for my city and for myself. I
have a dream of holding up a state championship trophy for my team and for myself. I have put countless numbers of hours into what it would be like
for this dream to become a reality. Next year will be my final year of high school basketball. Texas district realignment moved this super small 4A team
to an extremely large 3A school. The chance of winning the state championship in 3A is much better than we could have if we had stayed in 4A. I
continue to dream about that day that will hopefully happen in the next year of my life. Although today's game is much different than the...show more

The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by throwing another rock at it (Laughead). "The invention of basketball
was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'dropped a handkerchief'" (Naismith). My love for the game
of basketball started when I was just a toddler. The dreams of being the next Michael Jordan swirled in my little brain. Starting to shoot hoops on a four
foot goal and having my grand–dad show me how to shoot a basketball really sparked my interest. My grand–dad was an All–State Basketball Player in
the state of Pennsylvania in the 1930s. He would sit and tell me stories of his playing days and this made me want to play that much more. By the
time I was a first grader, I was practicing every day still wanting to be the best I could be. It was evident that by the time I got to Optimist Basketball
in the third grade, I would be playing this game forever. The game felt like a rush of something that I had never felt before. When my four teammates
and I did something successful together in the game, it made the sensation even better. The love and comradery between teammates, no matter what the
age or league you are in, is the most important component to a team. "The best teams have chemistry. They communicate with each other and they

Basketball Reflection Paper
Reflection Paper Playing professional basketball has always been a dream of mine since I was little. I realize that I probably wont make it to the
NBA (National Basketball Association) but I do think I am capable and skilled enough to play overseas. Playing overseas is a business much like the
NBA. There are many rules and guidelines that have to be followed. Unlike the NBA there is no NBPA (NationalBasketball Players Union). The
NBPA fights for basic minimum needs for players such as your own hotel room on road trips, money for food, and a league wide minimum salary.
The NBA is the only basketball league in the world that has a player's union. This means that if you play overseas you have no player's union to look

This is can also be referred to as Subcultures. Subcultures are groups with their own distinct modes of behavior. These groups can differ by
ethnicity, age, religion, and geographic distribution. Another important factor when talking to agents and owners is understanding people's attitudes.
Its important to seek out other peoples favorable or unfavorable evaluations, emotions, or action tendencies toward some object or idea. Being able
to master this would give me an upper hand on choosing where I want to play and who I want to play for. The book also talks about changing
consumer attitudes. Kurtz says marketers have two choices for appealing to consumer attitudes. The first would be to attempt to produce consumer
attitudes that will lead to the purchase of an existing product. In basketball terms this would mean that I can basically tell the owners what I have to
offer, showcase my skills and basically leave the final decision in their hands not having any idea if they liked me or not. On the other hand, the
second thing Kurtz suggests is evaluate existing consumer attitudes and create or modify products to appeal to these attitudes. This would be the
route I would go with just because if you go to someone who is familiar with the owner already you can kind of grasp an idea if that country is going
to be a good fit for you. Furthermore, the second concept is the marketing environment, ethics, and

How Basketball Influenced My Life
Each person experiences something in his or her life that alters the way he or she feels towards a certain situation. For me, basketball has drastically
influenced the decisions I make in life. It has taught me to be a better athlete and a better person. Basketball has taught me to express myself in many
ways that nothing else ever could. Being on a basketball team has become a custom to me. I have participated since I first began school at the age of
five. Even though my younger years of playing were fun, it was not until I made the varsity basketball team that I got to experience the best
adventures of my life. My freshman year was mostly my learning year. I had to transition to a faster pace game, and I had to learn all new offensive

That is what I had set in my mind come time for the next season. I worked harder and pushed myself farther. I learned that I must not accept
anything less than my best. If I accepted anything less than I was not only cheating myself, but I was also cheating my team. Every player worked
harder each day of practice. We supported each other in times that we felt we had none from anyone else. Everyone doubted our ability to become
the best all year long, but that did not stop us. We actually took the doubt and used it to make ourselves better as we fought our way to the 2014
state championship game. We entered a game where the odds were against us and it was not looking best for us. Everyone believed that, once again,
we would fail. We battled and played hard, and never quit fighting for one second even when we were in the lead. We were not going to fail this time
around. In the end, all of our long practices, early morning snow–day practices, and our all–around hard work paid off. When the last buzzer of the
fourth quarter sounded we claimed the title of the 2014 2A State Champions. In that moment I realized that if we would not have trusted one another
and not played as a team, we would not have one. Not one single person with any amount of talent could have won that game by him or herself. It
took all thirteen players of the team to win. Basketball showed me what being a team should feel like, and that feeling does not consist of people who
bond together because they play together, it is trusting one another to have my back no matter what, and being supported whether I do good or bad.
That feeling is what creates a

My Passion Of Basketball
Basketball is my passion.
I started playing basketball because i saw how much joy it brought to my mother and how excited she would get when home our team the Boston
Celtics would win games. And the 2008 NBA championships At The time my mom was raising three kids. My two sister and I i was eight years
old and my sisters were eleven and thirteen on her own and money was very tight. My father wasn't around so at a very young age i was told i was
"the man of the house" i didn't know what that meant but to my mom it meant taking out the trash while it was dark...as time grew went by i had
decided that becoming a basketball player because i saw how much an NBA contract is worth and i knew that's how i would get my mom and my
sister out of the the financial situation we were in because being a man was to take care of my family and put them in the best situation I will never
forget that the first shot I ever took was a perfect, nothing but net. Swish. It felt amazing, and I've been in love with this sport ever since.and at that
moment i knew i was destined once i saw my mom have the excitement.
I decided to tryout for the 4th grade basketball team. At tryouts i really didn't have any basketball IQ but i had the athleticism and the heart the
coaches pick that up quick to make the team I was one of the best players. I played the starting point guard it's one of the most important positions
on the basketball court. I followed my favorite player in the nba chris paul who also played the same position being point guard for my team was
nerve wracking but once I got on the court it was easy to clear my mind so the only thing I was worried about was the game and the plays I was
going to do. And making sure we had the higher score than the our opponent. Even though we would lose all our games i was still proud of myself
cause i got a lot of exposition by AAU coaches all over boston but lack of money i couldn't sign up so i just train whenever i got the chance.
Basketball – Playing basketball provide me a stress reliever. If i play a casual game with others, the competition will be a welcome distraction from
my daily stresses. Other sports like football also might relax me, but unwinding with basketball doesn't

other teammate I began to feel nervous. What if I mess up the game for everyone. "7 for 40 you may go." says the Ref. I start to play with my hands
which is a sign of me getting nervous about something. All the players in Lee County are very serious and aggressive, which is a good thing just not to
the extent they are. The whistle begins to blow for the girl on the other team to serve the ball. Right when she hits the ball I noticed the ball was
heading straight towards me "Mine mine mine!" I said. My arms extended out into the playing position and I passed the ball to Nicky which is our
setter. The setter on the team has a hard position because they constantly hear us call for the setter to set us a ball to hit and they have to be able to
get to the ball to receive a second hit. Unfortunately Lee County got the winning point to this game but the next time we play them we will have the
winning point. Once we returned to the high school my mom was waiting on me in the car. "How was the game? Did you win?" she asked me. The

Basketball : The Game Of Basketball
The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's
Christian Association training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high schools,
colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas. Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by
schools, social clubs, churches, and companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players around the world
would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did
men play the game of basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for sponsored teams.
Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the
main form of organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s. As professional as the ABL was, it
could not compete with college basketball. However the American basketball league changed the college basketball world. One of the main places
basketball was played was at the Madison Square Garden. The first ABL elite program was the Boston Celtics. In the 1920s they won as much as 90

In basketball, you don't really have to try that hard in practice to the point where somebody has to get hurt. Basketball and Football both cause
concussions, concussions are very dangerous because you could pass out, get brain damage, and you wouldn't be able to play for a couple of
weeks. Concussions are caused by very hard contact or somebody call fall on your head. If a person gets a concussion they won't be able to run for
some time. A good treatment for a concussion is to get a lot of rest and don't try to do anything that will make it worst. Most of the time the players
don't rest they be too quick to try to get back to what they were doing that when they do come back then they probably are out once again.
Basketball has as many injuries as football and they both be having injuries that are very serious and could end someone's career. When basketball
was first created they used to get injured a lot during the intense games. Most of the time it doesn't end their careers because they are having a lot of
money to do physical therapy to get back to playing on the court. Sometimes it's best for them to just stay out for the amount of time that they are

Individuals face manageable trials everyday. In my life, I get stuck on a math problem or I can't make a shot in basketball practice. I usually stop,
take a breath and move on to the next problem. During basketball practice, I take a breath, controlling my frustration and go back to the basic
bunny shots a few feet from the basket. It is all about simplicity. I once had a coach tell me, "boring is beautiful." A volleyball approach is supposed
to be simple and boring. It is the adrenaline rush of the game that makes it exciting. The most effective hitters perform simply and efficiently. We get
sidetracked from these trials and try to take more complex routes, such as a thick forest in Minnesota, when a perfectly paved path cutting through the
forest is only a few feet away. When conflict arises in academics and athletics, I see the solution more complexly than it needs to be. But after
conquering a very significant conflict in my volleyball career, I learned those very important life lessons.
During my 2016–17 volleyball season as a junior in high school, I slowly sunk into a rut. I was not performing well in crucial game situations, nor
was I hitting the marks I had hoped for, for that season. I had been pulled up to play varsity volleyball my freshman year and had success ever since. I
wasn't used to the struggle and frustration of my ability as a middle hitter.

controls the appointment of international referees. A total of 213 national federations are now members, organized since 1989 into five zones or
"commissions": Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup is a world tournament for men's national teams held every four years. Teams compete for the Naismith Trophy, named
in honor of basketball's creator James Naismith. The tournament structure is similar but not identical to that of

History of Basketball Essay
The game of basketball is recognizable high school or the NBA. The sport is very popular and is played worldwide. Everyone may also know the
sport from some names of basketball stars. Maybe the names Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, or Carmelo Anthony
ring a bell. They are all outstanding players of the game and have a significant understanding of how the game is played. Basketball has changed alot
overtime and has become one of Americas most played sports.
It takes time to really learn the ins and outs of the game and also to get a good handle on things. The game of basketball started in Springfield
Massachusetts and has now become on of the most popular sports nationally known. The game was designed...show more content...
He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented
this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the
game was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith
came up with the basic rules he decided what the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided that
if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He
decided to place the goal over the player's heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The hoops
would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a
way to start it. He thought of several different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref throws the ball
in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be
the start of the game. The game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training center started

Essay On Basketball

  • 1. Essay on Basketball Since I was a child, I loved watching basketball games. I remember when I was around six years old, there was a game on the t.v taking place at OAKA in Greece, and my favorite team AEK was playing against PANATHINAIKOS. The game was going to start at ten o'clock and my dad didn't want me to stay awake to watch it. I started crying as always– when I wanted something I was doing that –and my dad couldn't see me crying so he agreed and said that we were going to watch the game together. I was so happy about that, and I said thanks to my father. All my favorite players were playing and the game was unbelievable. I knew from that night, that I wanted to be a basketball player when I grew up....show more content... After two years things were not better. I had to make a choise. The school was not going so good and I was so sad. I couldn't study and I couldn't think of anything else but playing basketball. My mom was worrying about me all the time. She asked me a lot of times, what was bothering me but I was afraid to tell her, because I was not sure if I was right. I started changing, I was rude to everybody, I was fighting all the time with my family and my friends and I became more close to my self. I had to do something about my situation and choose what I wanted to do. One day a friend of mine gave me a tape with some rock songs to listen to, and I went up to my bedroom to play it. I put the tape in the radio and there was the answer. I listened to a song called "Hart Of Steel" and that was it. The song said " stand and fight, live by your heart, there is always one more time, I am not afraid to die, stand and fight, say what you feel, born with the hart of steel"and I did what I felt like. I went downstairs to my father and I decided to tell him that I made my choice. I told him that the next day I was going to join the team that I wanted to play in, and nobody was going to stop me doing that! It was the first time that I did what I felt and what I wanted to do and I was not scared of my father. I do not know what he felt that time but in his eyes I saw a shine. Maybe I did what he wanted me to do, I mean to make a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Informative Essay About Basketball What It Takes Intro Ever wonder what it takes to be a college athlete? Sure, the games and events are fun to watch but what exactly goes into preparing for these events and games? I will tell you exactly what it takes and what a college basketball player goes through because all the audience sees are the flashy views of the sport. However, we will now take a look at the sport from the other side of the ball. Background The game of basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891. The original equipment of the game was a literal peach basket and a soccer ball. By 1892 the first official game of basketball was played in a YMCA in New York. Then by 1895 basketball was a standard sport and began to be played all around even within high schools and colleges. In 1906 rims and back boards were made and by 1949 basketball could be played professionally. As the sport came along the skill level ofplayers increased and the game became flashier. Numerous professional legends were showcases like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley. Now the game is super complex and skill driven. Sure, the sport is exciting to watch, but there is a vast number of things that the player puts into the sport. A college basketball player puts countless hours into the sport. With the combined time of treatment, practice, and lifting weights, that makes for a full load of work to go along with their school work. The audience in which watching the game does not see the extra time and effort put Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I have been playing basketball all my life. When I was about 2 or 3 I knew immediately when I touched the ball, I fell in love with shooting hoops. My parents recognized that I loved basketball so they brought me a little basketball goal for my birthday. Until this day I love playing basketball. Now every day on my spare time I go outside to my basketball goal and play with my friends and family and I show them new basketball moves I can do. I think I am the best person on the court when I play other people. When I get done after all that I get ready for bed and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Basketball And Basketball : My Life Of Basketball Taking a retrospective look at my life history, as a child I recall having all this energy and being very hands on. As a child, we did not have much to play with. So, anything that I was able to lay my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot the basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to the store when we get back you will play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out and we hung it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It was hard shooting the basketball in the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways. Thanks to great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was a sport that my mother taught me to keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as well as working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my friends and family. I have three boys and one girl and they all love basketball. Basketball has taken over our house. Our three boys play basketball for the school, so we as a family attend to all the games. Basketball for me is not only a hobby its where I release stress. For example, playing basketball with other team mates gives me a chance to get rid of all negative energy that has piled up throughout the week. Nature and nurture shaping one's character. Nature and nurture affect one's character in countless ways. In my daily life, I've come across people on the basketball court as well as interacted with some at work that have a different idea about how to approach issues in life. Taking in to consideration nurture there are some parents that believe their children should grow up and be leaders and to demonstrate it in their lives. Features like this are acquired when you grow up with and associate with people. Nature is the different environments and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Basketball Is A Popular And Beloved Sport Essay Basketball is a very popular and beloved sport that is still being played today. Michael Jordan, who played for the Washington Wizards and the Chicago Bulls once said, "Just play, have fun, and enjoy the game" (BrainyQuote 2016). Whether playing with friends for fun or by professionals for entertainment or simply watching from home, basketball is enjoyed all over the world. Beginning with a unique history, basketball has evolved over time from a simple idea into a professional career choice for those with the unique skill set. During the winter of 1892 in a town in Massachusetts a physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, at a YMCA school created a game where young men could play indoors apart from going outside in the freezing cold. To be prepared for the game, Dr. Naismith came up with some rules for the game, gathered two peach baskets for hoops, a soccer ball, becoming the first basketball game in history. The young men did not know how to play the game, but they still had fun doing it. The game only lasted thirty minutes with the final score being 1 point to 0 points. During this game, William R. Chase became the first person to ever score in a basketball game (Faurschou, 2016). Dr. Naismith came up with thirteen rules. While four out of the thirteen rules that he came up with, are no longer followed in today 's version of basketball, the nine that are left were slightly modified and are still in use today. The original thirteen rules are as follows: The ball is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Experience Of Playing Basketball The first time I played basketball was like the first time finding myself. I started playing basketball when I was very young and I fell in love with it. I was really really good from a young age, I had an innate ability to play basketball. I had fun dribbling and doing all the dirty work, I liked the running and playing defense I loved every aspect of the game. The first experience I remembered was when I was in 4th grade and it was the champion ship game against Lakeland. Lakeland was always super good and before this game we never have gotten even close to them in score. This game was different. It was 32–28 our lead and we had 2 mins left. I remember Lakeland only had one good player and I was guarding him, it was the hardest challenge of my life because this kid was the best. I was guarding him and he shot a 3 and somehow it went in so now the score was 32–31 with about a minute left. We had the ball and we were dribbling up the court but somehow, they got the ball back and scored so now the score was 33–32 their lead. My coach (my step dad) calls a time out and brings us together and says "now boys this is the closest we have ever gotten to beating this team so let's not let it slip away" everyone looked at each other and we knew we had to do something. So, we made a play so I could score to win the game. I was so nervous; the play was called "2". the play would start at the top of the key and I would have to run up to the elbow and then someone would come and pick for me and I would do a back door. We tried the play in practice a couple days prior to this game but we never put it in action. So, the time out ended and we went back on the court. my heart was beating and my legs were shaking. So, we bring up the ball and we all get in position, now there is about 40 seconds on the clock and we wait a little bit before we start the play to take some time off the clock. But then finally the point guard yells out "2" and my heart drops even more. but I do what I'm supposed to and pop up and then here comes the screen. I set my guy up the cut back door. I got a perfect pass from my team mate and I go up for the shot and I get hammered. Someone fouled me really hard and I fell and I had no idea if it went Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What Does Basketball Mean To Me Essay Basketball is not just a sport, to me it is a lifestyle; there is something about shooting the orange sphere through the net and hearing that "swoosh" sound that can force any problem to instantly go away. Nothing can compare to the satisfaction that is felt when stepping onto the court or feeling the padded outer–layer of the ball clash with the tips of my fingers after bouncing up from the ground. The court is a second home to me. I have been playing basketball since I was eight years old. It seemed to come as second nature. Once I reached middle school, I competed for a spot on the seventh grade girls basketball team and earned myself a spot. Those girls meant everything to me. I can recall practices when we got off task and goofed around for a bit, but we always got back to work....show more content... With extracurricular activities comes minimal alone time, time to complete schoolwork, sleep, or time spent with friends and family. It seems that I have made it work by keeping my priorities in order while maintaining a grade point average of 3.8 or higher. Although it becomes difficult to balance schoolwork, stress levels, and practice, it has been done. An average teenager needs anywhere from eight to ten hours of sleep. I can recall multiple nights when I received seven or less hours of sleep due to unfinished schoolwork, but when I am out on the court schoolwork is not a concern. It is as if it slips from my mind, for the time being, because improving my game becomes my top priority. Being out on the court gives me a break from all other responsibilities outside of basketball. My only responsibility while on the court is putting the ball into the hoop. Basketball will always have a place in my heart. The basketball court will always be my second home, a place I feel most comfortable, and a place to meet the most remarkable people that I have and will ever Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Playing Basketball Essay Playing Basketball Being part of the basketball clique in high school helped me learn the intrapersonal and social communication skills I use today. As a child playing basketball was my favorite activity or hobby. It's also the way I met a lot of my good friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met. I have met them through playing basketball.. Whether they were on my team, the opposing team or just fans in the crowd who admired my play. Not only has basketball helped me gain friends, but basketball also taught me a lot about life. There are many aspects of life that coincide with basketball. For instance basketball is a team game and an individual game. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The...show more content... Me on the other hand, I had older friends that I had already made through basketball. So when I got to high school even though I was nervous I had a clique that I fit and hung out with . As I hung out more with the basketball team I started to break out of my shell. Some of the great experiences I remember were the bus rides to games. We use to make up songs or just crack jokes on each other. My clique in high school was well know we were known as the ?ballers?. We got along with all the other people at school. My basketball clique went everywhere together we even had a weekly senior ditch day to the beach. We went to all the dances in groups and had fun. By the end of my four years I gained about ten brothers that I knew I could rely on and call for anything at any time. From freshman year to the time I graduated I became a whole new person thanks to my teammates and all my experiences that I shared with them. I learned how to talk in both a one on one and group situation. Thanks to basketball I had developed the fundamental skills to communicate to friends and family. Being the point guard on the team I had to relay the message from the coach to the other teammates. So I learned how to communicate and be heard in a big group. Like when I saw something that I thought someone was doing wrong I had to speak up and let them know what they need to day. I then took those skills to my everyday real life situations. • 9. Descriptive Essay About Basketball I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up from a nap, when I received a text message from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I read the message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to stay busy to pass the time, so I begin to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the dishes in what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while washing the dishes. This was very new for me. After about 15 minutes of shooting around it was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court and established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360 glance it seemed as though all the guys that we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the guys. I wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and tricks. It seemed like they were trying to embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin beating the boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I heard one of their friends on the sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously didn 't want that to happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. We walked off the court with our heads held high, but I could tell that the way the guys were acting bother my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Essay- Basketball Basketball has played a big role in my life thus far. The game of basketball to me means everything that I want to have for my city and for myself. I have a dream of holding up a state championship trophy for my team and for myself. I have put countless numbers of hours into what it would be like for this dream to become a reality. Next year will be my final year of high school basketball. Texas district realignment moved this super small 4A team to an extremely large 3A school. The chance of winning the state championship in 3A is much better than we could have if we had stayed in 4A. I continue to dream about that day that will hopefully happen in the next year of my life. Although today's game is much different than the...show more content... The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by throwing another rock at it (Laughead). "The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play 'dropped a handkerchief'" (Naismith). My love for the game of basketball started when I was just a toddler. The dreams of being the next Michael Jordan swirled in my little brain. Starting to shoot hoops on a four foot goal and having my grand–dad show me how to shoot a basketball really sparked my interest. My grand–dad was an All–State Basketball Player in the state of Pennsylvania in the 1930s. He would sit and tell me stories of his playing days and this made me want to play that much more. By the time I was a first grader, I was practicing every day still wanting to be the best I could be. It was evident that by the time I got to Optimist Basketball in the third grade, I would be playing this game forever. The game felt like a rush of something that I had never felt before. When my four teammates and I did something successful together in the game, it made the sensation even better. The love and comradery between teammates, no matter what the age or league you are in, is the most important component to a team. "The best teams have chemistry. • 11. Basketball Reflection Paper Reflection Paper Playing professional basketball has always been a dream of mine since I was little. I realize that I probably wont make it to the NBA (National Basketball Association) but I do think I am capable and skilled enough to play overseas. Playing overseas is a business much like the NBA. There are many rules and guidelines that have to be followed. Unlike the NBA there is no NBPA (NationalBasketball Players Union). The NBPA fights for basic minimum needs for players such as your own hotel room on road trips, money for food, and a league wide minimum salary. The NBA is the only basketball league in the world that has a player's union. This means that if you play overseas you have no player's union to look out for your rights....show more content... This is can also be referred to as Subcultures. Subcultures are groups with their own distinct modes of behavior. These groups can differ by ethnicity, age, religion, and geographic distribution. Another important factor when talking to agents and owners is understanding people's attitudes. Its important to seek out other peoples favorable or unfavorable evaluations, emotions, or action tendencies toward some object or idea. Being able to master this would give me an upper hand on choosing where I want to play and who I want to play for. The book also talks about changing consumer attitudes. Kurtz says marketers have two choices for appealing to consumer attitudes. The first would be to attempt to produce consumer attitudes that will lead to the purchase of an existing product. In basketball terms this would mean that I can basically tell the owners what I have to offer, showcase my skills and basically leave the final decision in their hands not having any idea if they liked me or not. On the other hand, the second thing Kurtz suggests is evaluate existing consumer attitudes and create or modify products to appeal to these attitudes. This would be the route I would go with just because if you go to someone who is familiar with the owner already you can kind of grasp an idea if that country is going to be a good fit for you. Furthermore, the second concept is the marketing environment, ethics, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. How Basketball Influenced My Life Each person experiences something in his or her life that alters the way he or she feels towards a certain situation. For me, basketball has drastically influenced the decisions I make in life. It has taught me to be a better athlete and a better person. Basketball has taught me to express myself in many ways that nothing else ever could. Being on a basketball team has become a custom to me. I have participated since I first began school at the age of five. Even though my younger years of playing were fun, it was not until I made the varsity basketball team that I got to experience the best adventures of my life. My freshman year was mostly my learning year. I had to transition to a faster pace game, and I had to learn all new offensive ...show more content... That is what I had set in my mind come time for the next season. I worked harder and pushed myself farther. I learned that I must not accept anything less than my best. If I accepted anything less than I was not only cheating myself, but I was also cheating my team. Every player worked harder each day of practice. We supported each other in times that we felt we had none from anyone else. Everyone doubted our ability to become the best all year long, but that did not stop us. We actually took the doubt and used it to make ourselves better as we fought our way to the 2014 state championship game. We entered a game where the odds were against us and it was not looking best for us. Everyone believed that, once again, we would fail. We battled and played hard, and never quit fighting for one second even when we were in the lead. We were not going to fail this time around. In the end, all of our long practices, early morning snow–day practices, and our all–around hard work paid off. When the last buzzer of the fourth quarter sounded we claimed the title of the 2014 2A State Champions. In that moment I realized that if we would not have trusted one another and not played as a team, we would not have one. Not one single person with any amount of talent could have won that game by him or herself. It took all thirteen players of the team to win. Basketball showed me what being a team should feel like, and that feeling does not consist of people who bond together because they play together, it is trusting one another to have my back no matter what, and being supported whether I do good or bad. That feeling is what creates a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. My Passion Of Basketball Basketball is my passion. I started playing basketball because i saw how much joy it brought to my mother and how excited she would get when home our team the Boston Celtics would win games. And the 2008 NBA championships At The time my mom was raising three kids. My two sister and I i was eight years old and my sisters were eleven and thirteen on her own and money was very tight. My father wasn't around so at a very young age i was told i was "the man of the house" i didn't know what that meant but to my mom it meant taking out the trash while it was dark...as time grew went by i had decided that becoming a basketball player because i saw how much an NBA contract is worth and i knew that's how i would get my mom and my sister out of the the financial situation we were in because being a man was to take care of my family and put them in the best situation I will never forget that the first shot I ever took was a perfect, nothing but net. Swish. It felt amazing, and I've been in love with this sport ever since.and at that moment i knew i was destined once i saw my mom have the excitement. I decided to tryout for the 4th grade basketball team. At tryouts i really didn't have any basketball IQ but i had the athleticism and the heart the coaches pick that up quick to make the team I was one of the best players. I played the starting point guard it's one of the most important positions on the basketball court. I followed my favorite player in the nba chris paul who also played the same position being point guard for my team was nerve wracking but once I got on the court it was easy to clear my mind so the only thing I was worried about was the game and the plays I was going to do. And making sure we had the higher score than the our opponent. Even though we would lose all our games i was still proud of myself cause i got a lot of exposition by AAU coaches all over boston but lack of money i couldn't sign up so i just train whenever i got the chance. Basketball – Playing basketball provide me a stress reliever. If i play a casual game with others, the competition will be a welcome distraction from my daily stresses. Other sports like football also might relax me, but unwinding with basketball doesn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Descriptive Essay On A Basketball Game Score! "Lee County takes another point in the volleyball tournament" says the announcer. The team starts to fall apart as we lose our game towards Lee County High School home of the Lady Trojans. The score is 24–14 as we fall behind. While i'm sitting on the bench waiting to sub in with my other teammate I began to feel nervous. What if I mess up the game for everyone. "7 for 40 you may go." says the Ref. I start to play with my hands which is a sign of me getting nervous about something. All the players in Lee County are very serious and aggressive, which is a good thing just not to the extent they are. The whistle begins to blow for the girl on the other team to serve the ball. Right when she hits the ball I noticed the ball was heading straight towards me "Mine mine mine!" I said. My arms extended out into the playing position and I passed the ball to Nicky which is our setter. The setter on the team has a hard position because they constantly hear us call for the setter to set us a ball to hit and they have to be able to get to the ball to receive a second hit. Unfortunately Lee County got the winning point to this game but the next time we play them we will have the winning point. Once we returned to the high school my mom was waiting on me in the car. "How was the game? Did you win?" she asked me. The more I thought about the game it upsetted me even more. "Well we lost." I replied. The whole ride home was silent except the sound of the radio talking about all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Basketball : The Game Of Basketball The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's Christian Association training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high schools, colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas. Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by schools, social clubs, churches, and companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players around the world would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did men play the game of basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for sponsored teams. Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the main form of organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s. As professional as the ABL was, it could not compete with college basketball. However the American basketball league changed the college basketball world. One of the main places basketball was played was at the Madison Square Garden. The first ABL elite program was the Boston Celtics. In the 1920s they won as much as 90 percent of their games. • 16. Basketball is the best sport in the nation. It was created by a Canadian man named James Naismith and he was a PE teacher. The first basketball goals were peach baskets and they played in cages made of chicken wire and mesh. At the beginning of basketball, they used soccer balls before actual basketballs were created. They also did not dribble a lot at the beginning of basketball, they would catch the ball and take a couple of steps to slow down or stop. Since then the game of basketball has changed greatly, no one is no longer playing in cages with wires, and the game requires a lot of athleticism and ability. The game is very entertaining and fast–paced. When watching basketball you have to stay engaged in the game or you just might miss...show more content... In basketball, you don't really have to try that hard in practice to the point where somebody has to get hurt. Basketball and Football both cause concussions, concussions are very dangerous because you could pass out, get brain damage, and you wouldn't be able to play for a couple of weeks. Concussions are caused by very hard contact or somebody call fall on your head. If a person gets a concussion they won't be able to run for some time. A good treatment for a concussion is to get a lot of rest and don't try to do anything that will make it worst. Most of the time the players don't rest they be too quick to try to get back to what they were doing that when they do come back then they probably are out once again. Basketball has as many injuries as football and they both be having injuries that are very serious and could end someone's career. When basketball was first created they used to get injured a lot during the intense games. Most of the time it doesn't end their careers because they are having a lot of money to do physical therapy to get back to playing on the court. Sometimes it's best for them to just stay out for the amount of time that they are supposed to so that they will have the right amount of time to heal and won't get injured quickly and will most likely play better then they played before the injury. • 17. Basketball Reflection Individuals face manageable trials everyday. In my life, I get stuck on a math problem or I can't make a shot in basketball practice. I usually stop, take a breath and move on to the next problem. During basketball practice, I take a breath, controlling my frustration and go back to the basic bunny shots a few feet from the basket. It is all about simplicity. I once had a coach tell me, "boring is beautiful." A volleyball approach is supposed to be simple and boring. It is the adrenaline rush of the game that makes it exciting. The most effective hitters perform simply and efficiently. We get sidetracked from these trials and try to take more complex routes, such as a thick forest in Minnesota, when a perfectly paved path cutting through the forest is only a few feet away. When conflict arises in academics and athletics, I see the solution more complexly than it needs to be. But after conquering a very significant conflict in my volleyball career, I learned those very important life lessons. During my 2016–17 volleyball season as a junior in high school, I slowly sunk into a rut. I was not performing well in crucial game situations, nor was I hitting the marks I had hoped for, for that season. I had been pulled up to play varsity volleyball my freshman year and had success ever since. I wasn't used to the struggle and frustration of my ability as a middle hitter. I sat down with my coach and we talked about my performance the last few games. I felt I was letting my team Get more content on HelpWriting.net

He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the game was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith came up with the basic rules he decided what the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided that if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He decided to place the goal over the player's heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The hoops would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training center started Get more content on HelpWriting.net
