I have grown up in a predominantly white, well–resourced, private school in suburban Maryland; therefore, inequality has been an inevitable factor in
my educational experience. Although my school tried to include me, I still often felt isolated. From the time I was able to comprehend the idea of
inequality and injustice, I developed an intense desire to fight for others if unfair actions were taken against them. As I grew older, this passion grew
stronger, and I came to realize that fighting for justice is what I hope to be doing for the rest of my life. Attending a school for over ten years with no

As I was searching around the country for colleges to apply to, my cousin, who went to the Columbia Law School, recommended that I consider

Growing up, I never had the warm pleasures of bedtime stories; instead, I would hear about the unimaginable impoverishment my parents faced in their

Over the past three years, I have become absolutely convinced that the path towards my goal will involve leveraging my current skills and abilities to
make meaningful contributions in Information systems. I am sure that it will be an exhilarating experience even though I will have to make personal
sacrifices in terms of time and immediate reward.

Columbia Mission Statement
Growing up in New York City has been a wonderful experience. It's made me realize the rich and engaging city Columbia is located in. While I do
want to study in a lively area, I want to go to a University that provides me the best education and resources I could have. Majority of the faculty
teaching at the college has been tremendously recognized within their respective fields, what better than to be guided by those very professionals.
Learning organic chemistry under the tutorship of the likes of James Leighton, who has made incredible advances in the synthesis and application of
polyketides as anticancer chemotherapeutic agents, or 19th–century American literature Professor Susan Bernofsky would be unimaginable. Another
attractive consideration for me as an applicant is the Borrow Direct Plus On–Site Borrowing Program offered with the Butler Library student
membership, in which students are able to borrow books...show more content...
Reading the journal of Rosalind Franklin, the discoverer of DNA, would be difficult because there are so few copies, but this program can get it for
me, and connect me to new thought processes and ideas. I believe that Columbia's mission to refine its students' analytic and imaginative thinking is
inspiring and will overall be beneficial to my education. The university is able to follow their mission statement not only through its diligent faculty, but
its constant technological innovation and advancement. In the near future, the chemistry department will have its very own biology autoclave and cold
room, which allow students to conduct industrial processes requiring elevated temperature and pressure levels. The culmination of Columbia's
resources and faculty is through the SURF and Amgen Scholars Program, in which the Department of Biological Science enables undergraduates to
conduct hands on laboratory research. I can already see my future at Columbia
