• “The vestry continued to maintain the engine until 1858, when Stoke
Newington arranged to use the new engine and engine house built by
Hackney on the east side of High Street”
• Under the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Act of 1865, responsibility
passed to the Metropolitan Board of Works, although Hackney Board
of Works continued to use the High Street station until its
replacement
