About Charles
Dickens
Charles John Huffam Dickens ( 7 February 1812
– 9 June 1870) was an English writer and
social critic. He created some of the world's
best-known fictional characters and is regarded
by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian
era.
3
About Hard Times
Hard Times is a novel written by Charles Dickens. By
this novel he tried to throw light on a class which is
affected by industrialization as well as through this
he also satirized rich people of society. Here novelist
also talked about the female position of victorian
society.
What Is Symbol
a thing that represents or stands for something else, especially a
material object representing something abstract.
5
Why symbols is necessary in Hard Times
▪ Dickens uses symbols in his novel in order to give an exact shape to his moral. By This
symbols reader understand the plot construction easily. Reader can also
connectone incident with another incident.
6
Symbols in hard times
7
Stair case
The scene of stair case is used in Hard Times.
in thescene of hearthouse and Louisa, in the scene it is
shown
That Bouderby is not in town, by that time the character of
Mr. Hearthouse introduce, because of bounderby was not
at home mr Hearthouse &Louisa spends time togather.
The advantage of this togetherness is taken by Sparsit.
She makes an imaginary stair case &By this symbolism,
She thought that she ruin the life of Louisa. This stair case
Also representsher belief that Louisa is going to elope with
Harthouse and consequently ruin her reputation.
8
Circus
Circus is symbolism that we must respect the
clown as well as the team of circus, actor and
actress also. Never judge a person with their family
as well as their reputation in society.Because in
the worst time lowest person of society can help
the people of rich class. The readers can
understand this by the reading of incident of circus.
In the incident of circus there is tom was caught
by the police man,in this worst time of gradgrined
family the people of circus help the family a lot.
Industrialization
9
Meaning of industrialization
the development of industries in a country
or region on a wide scale.
How industrialization play a role
in novel?
The readers can read by the
character of Stephen blackpool
because of industrial revolution
machine takes place of person,
because of this revolution lower
class become more lower and
upper class became more richer.
I
Fire
10
Here are two types of fire one is perform on the stage and it
is outer fire, with this outer fire Louisa talked a lot.she
expresses her grief with this fire.
The second fire is inner fire, this inner fire symbolizes the
warmth created by her secret fancies in her otherwise lonely,
mechanized existence. Consequently, it is significant that Louisa often
gazes into the fireplace when she is alone, as if she sees things in the
flames that others—like her rigid father and brother—cannot see.
Sicily Jupe
The character of Sissy is also a messenger from the land of
imagination, creativity, and selfless actions.
