Five essential elements every
fantasy novel need
Defination of Fantasy
Literature?
fantasy, also spelled phantasy,
imaginative fiction dependent for effect on
strangeness of setting (such as other worlds
or times) and of characters (such
as supernatural or unnatural beings). in
which the plot could not happen in real life .
Often, the plot involves magic or witchcraft
and takes place on another planet or in
another — undiscovered — dimension of
this world.
Fantasy Literature of 20th century
Early twentieth century antasy came of age in 1937 with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, which was
followed Lord of tby the 1954 trilogy, The he Rings. The GoldenAge of the fantasy genre
occurred during the 1950s and 60s with Tolkien's addition along with are considered modC.S.
Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, and Ursula K. Le Guin's arthsea These titles helped forge a
clear identity for the fantasy genre and erri epics. During this time period, fantasy became more
sophisticated, affected by the developments of science and technology, such as quantum
physics, new theories regarding the origins of the universe, and experiments with atomic
energy. This revised view of the world, anew attitude toward the laws of nature, opened the
human mind to much of what fantasy offers: supernatural proceedings, time-shifts, and
other worlds.
In 1977 the fantasy novel finally hit the bestseller lists with Terry Brook's Sword of Shannara.
Young adult "sword and sorcery" books such as those by Robert Jordan and David
Eddings became very popular, and more recently authors such as Diana Wynne Jones, Tamora
Pierce and J.K. Rowling are keeping the fantasy genre well
Charcterstics of Fantacy Genre
1.Good vs. evil:.
This is the most primary factor of fantacy genre the protagonist has both side one is good and the
other side is a evil side . We can take example of the novel dr.Jekyll and mr. Hyde. The person is
only one but he has both side like good and evil.
2. often set in a medieval universe or laboratory
: From Middle-earth, to Narnia, Alagaesia, Hogwarts, and even Forks, the setting is
another character in the story. It is the unique quality of the landscape that allows for
most of the events in the story to take place.
3.Man v/s society
In the fantasy novel there is always a person is alone and society is against him
example:Frankenstein in this text the monstor is alone in the whole story and society
against him
five essential need elements every fantasy novel need?
1.Magic system
a magic system refers to things that occur or exist in your story that do not or cannot exist in the real
world. Elements of sorcery, witchcraft and enchantment; fantastical creatures and the supernatural;
advanced abilities or powers… Basically, anything with no basis in real-world evidence or logic can be
considered ‘magic’.
2.A well-developed setting
This is another absolutely vital element within fantasy fiction. When you’re writing in this genre, your
story takes place in a completely new world. (And even if your fantasy is based on Earth, it’s not the
Earth we actually know.) In order to immerse readers in your world, you must develop your setting
thoroughly and thoughtfully.
. 3.A cast of complex characters
As with any novel, it’s often the characters in fantasy fiction that truly get readers invested in the story.
Your setting, plot and magic system may intrigue and engage readers, but none of these aspects
matter if your readers don’t care about the characters and their outcomes.
A central conflict
The key to every good story is conflict. This is especially true in fantasy fiction, where
the stakes are often higher for your characters, and the story usually stretches across
multiple books in a series..
The Harry Potter series is a great example of conflict in fantasy fiction. While each book
contains its own internal conflicts, the series as a whole deals with one central conflict:
that between the boy wizard Harry and the evil Lord Voldemort. This conflict ties all
seven volumes of the series together and keeps the story moving forward at all times.

Conclusion
As Pamela S. Gates states:
"Literary fantasy, became a medium to sustain
our need for heroes and our perpetual belief that
good can overcome evil but without the level of
moralizing found in earlier tales.“
So to sum up this it is very rightly said by the writer,
because fantasy add more capacity to bulid a beautiful
imaginative world.
