Vegetarian Chili Recipe Card
This means that it stands out dramatically and can be
seen a lot more clearer than anything else on the

The picture that is used is not really of any excitement.
It does not stand out too much. It is not appealing in
any way what so ever. There is not a lot in the picture
that you can see to properly criticize, apart from that
the picture doesn’t really look very professionally
made and neither does the food itself.
My overall thought on this recipe card, is that it does
the job on telling you how to make a vegetarian
chili, but it would not really appeal to me if I were to
want to make a vegetarian chili. This is because, you
imagine that that picture is the outcome of what what
those ingredients and directions has made, and to
me, it doesn’t look that good.

This recipe card holds everything you need to know to be able to make the vegetarian
chili. The overall writing style is very easy to understand. It is set out in an orderly
fashion, by telling you precisely how much you need of each ingredient to produce the
chili. The way you make it is also clearly numbered, so you know, step by step what to
do. The font that is used is very easy to read, but it doesn’t catch your eye. I suppose
the font for the ‘ingredients’ and ‘directions’ shouldn’t be the thing that catches your
eye anyway. If you want to make vegetarian chili, then it will be the heading and picture
which will catch your attention. In this case, the heading is a completely different size
and colour to the rest of the text and colours used.
Chili Cumin Cashews Recipe Card

This recipe card holds everything you need to know to be able to make chili cumin cashews. It has the ingredients, and the directions, separate. The
ingredients are pretty straight forward to understand, because they start a new line every time they are talking about something different, where
as, the directions aren’t ordered by numbers, so it takes that little bit more effort to understand, which in my opinion isn’t a good thing because a
recipe card is made specifically for people who are new to making this certain recipe, so this means that this recipe card should be structured in a way
that is easy for their readers to work out with no problems at all. the font of the writing is exactly the same throughout the whole recipe card. The size
of the title is just a few fonts bigger, but nothing that would make it stand out from the rest of the writing because it is in the exact same colour. The
only things that are in a different colour are the side headings, which are in red. This is a little bit helpful, but the way it is structured, it is clear enough
to understand what the ingredients are and what the directions are. There is no picture used at all, which is not helpful at all, and if you are like
me, who’s attention is caught by pictures more than words, this would not be a recipe card I would choose to use to make chili cumin cashews.
In my opinion, this recipe card is pretty tedious looking. The background is just plain white paper with no colour on it, it only has a little bit of design at
the bottom which hardly stands out at all. The text is the same through the whole thing, the colours used are pretty much the same everywhere, and
there is no picture to go by what it should possibly look like. There is no preference to what It should look like.
Jollof Rice Recipe Card

This recipe card holds pretty much everything you are going to need to be able to make the Jollof Rice. It has the ingredients, the method of how to
make it, and a picture of what it is supposed to look like.
The way it is written is very clear to understand. The ingredients and the method are separated. The ingredients are very specific in what you will
need to make this and how much of every ingredient is needed. The method is set out clearly, using step by step sentences on how you should make
it. It also gives tips on how to get the best out of what you are working with, for example, this particular recipe gives you a tip on how to increase the
flavour of the rice. They did not need to add that in there, but because they want you to get the best out of what you are making, they did so.
The font of the headings where it says ‘jollof rice’, ‘ingredients’, ‘method’, are quite difficult to read if you were not familiar with those words, for
example, I did not have a clue what jollof rice was, and I struggled to read what it said to start with. This would be a problem if you were just looking
for something new to make, and not specifically looking for jollof rice recipes. The texts itself is extremely clear and would be very easy to understand
with no problems at all.
The quality of the picture is lovely. You can see the texture in the food that has been made. You get a very nice image of what the food you are
making would look like. It is simple looking food, but stands out, probably because of the optional tomatoes which are on the top of the rice. It adds
colour to the food though. It is blurred at the top of the picture where the bowl is because it is just not of any use to anyone to look at. The the rice is
what should be of centre of attention, not the bowl.
The colour scheme is pretty much a bright yellow, which goes well with the colour of the food because the rice is a bright orangey yellow looking
colour.
In my opinion, this recipe card is quite a good one. It has a very useful picture so you know what it is supposed to look like. It is structured so it is
extremely easy to understand and the background is pretty simple, so you don’t get side tracked by any random patterning.
Roasted Pepper & Potato Tarts

This recipe card holds a lovely professional looking picture by ‘Romulo’. It has a list of all the things that you will need to make it like most
recipes. It has a step by step description on how to actually make roasted pepper and potato tarts. It also tells you how many you are going to
be able to serve with the amount of ingredients given which is eight.
Because it is a recipe card which is specifically made to work by off the computer, it is just simple bold headings and simple easy to read fonts.
The photo which is used is of quite a high quality. The pictures I have seen of others have all been from a side, whereas this ones seems to be
taken from above. In my eyes, this is a better way of taking photos of food. In others, they have always had something in the background that
is not needed. With this, it just makes you focus purely on the food itself.
The colour scheme is not the best but the picture itself has a lot of unusual colours to it which will grab attention. You can’t see it on this print
screen I have but on the original page, it holds some important information for vegetarians trying to watch their diet. It had exactly how much
was in it.
This is a vegetarian dish from a
vegetarian website. All the ingredients
are relatively healthy. The photography
involved in this recipe card is quite
professional. Its in clear focus and has a
good depth of field for the purpose
intended. Personally I think the
photograph could have been taken a bit
further away to get more of a grasp of
what the meal will actually look like. It a
thorough enough guide on how to cook
the dish.
The colour scheme involved in the
recipe card overall is relatively simple
as the only colours are in the food itself.
I think this is a good idea because
there’s no distracting dull colours. The
layout of the recipe card is quite clear
with all the directions on the left and
the picture on the right. The font stays
consistent throughout and is clear and
easy to read. It has a good layout and
switches between fonts seamlessly
creating a more adult effect.

This is a recipe card for a meat dish. I would say that this recipe card is less adult it physically. The
than the previous ones. This is because its using bright colours that contrast well photograph is in good
together. Also the font is less formal and a bit more interesting as you can see in clear focus and it gives
the top right. I think that it has an easy layout to follow with the ingredients in you the feel that that is
the top left. The top left is the first place you look when you come to a piece of how it would look in real
literature and the ingredients are the first thing you need when beginning to life.
cook a meal so they tie in nicely together.
This recipe card looks very basic in terms of graphic
design. Its more of a straight to the point recipe
card, more so than the others I have looked at. Its not
going out to be eye catching, its there for people to
find themselves if they want to make an apple
strudel. It has more of an in depth focus on the
creation of the food as a pose to how the recipe card
actually looks. If these cards were handed out in a
restaurant I don’t think they would be very effective
because they aren’t very eye catching or interesting. It
has an ok layout but I don’t think its that structured
because it doesn’t seem to be in that much of a
structured order, nothing seems to jump out at you
when you look at the page. Its interesting that it
involves the nutritional values of the food when
made. This makes the card look more professional in
terms of the information given but not the way it
looks.
The font is quite basic and there are a few bold titles
to split up the page. This keeps it simple and keeps
the focus on just creating the food physically. The
colour scheme is quite plain and none of the colours
contrast. The photograph of the food is quite basic
and is of a birds eye view. This makes it look 2d or like
a bit of pastry from above. If it was from a better
angle you would be able to get a better idea of what
the strudel looked like when finished.
The picture is large and shows the product
in a good light. Its from a good angle and
shows everything in the dish. The layout is
straight forward and easy to follow from
start to finish. The colour scheme is very
basic and there is nothing artistic about the
card at all. Its almost a word document
with a pretty picture at the top to finish it
and make it. This card is relatively boring
but it’s the quality of the image and the
food involved that catches your eye.

The font involved in this is the same
throughout except from a bold title at the
top. This is good in some ways but bad in
the sense that it doesn’t really break up the
page that well. Its not a recipe card written
as if you have never cooked before. You do
have to have some basic food knowledge
to be able to cook the dish but not that
much. If you can cook rice you can cook
this dish.
In my opinion I think this dish comes across
as quite appealing because there’s not a
stupid boarder that looks like its from the
90’s and the fonts not in lots of random
colours. What you see is what you get.
The photographs for both halves of this
dish are both in clear focus. They look like
professional images or something off an
M&S advert. The layout is clear and spread
out making it easy to work your way
through the text. It has a nice selection of
fonts that make the dish seem more adult
and high class. None of the fonts are that
bold which may make it difficult for older
people to read it.

I think the colour scheme suits the dish
very well as it looks modern whilst keeping
a timeless Sunday lunch the same with a
slight chefs twist. It shows the vegetable
dish in just the same light as the
main, keeping it cool and making sure the
page isn’t too over crowded. It goes from
the ingredients to the directions on both
parts of the meal but then the font
decreases in size at the most important
points. It doesn’t really go into that much
detail so cooking experience is definitely
needed.

I think that overall this dish looks very
appealing and could be something that
quite a few people after seeing the card

Recipe Card Analysis

  • 2. Vegetarian Chili Recipe Card This means that it stands out dramatically and can be seen a lot more clearer than anything else on the recipe card. The picture that is used is not really of any excitement. It does not stand out too much. It is not appealing in any way what so ever. There is not a lot in the picture that you can see to properly criticize, apart from that the picture doesn’t really look very professionally made and neither does the food itself. My overall thought on this recipe card, is that it does the job on telling you how to make a vegetarian chili, but it would not really appeal to me if I were to want to make a vegetarian chili. This is because, you imagine that that picture is the outcome of what what those ingredients and directions has made, and to me, it doesn’t look that good. This recipe card holds everything you need to know to be able to make the vegetarian chili. The overall writing style is very easy to understand. It is set out in an orderly fashion, by telling you precisely how much you need of each ingredient to produce the chili. The way you make it is also clearly numbered, so you know, step by step what to do. The font that is used is very easy to read, but it doesn’t catch your eye. I suppose the font for the ‘ingredients’ and ‘directions’ shouldn’t be the thing that catches your eye anyway. If you want to make vegetarian chili, then it will be the heading and picture which will catch your attention. In this case, the heading is a completely different size and colour to the rest of the text and colours used.
  • 3. Chili Cumin Cashews Recipe Card This recipe card holds everything you need to know to be able to make chili cumin cashews. It has the ingredients, and the directions, separate. The ingredients are pretty straight forward to understand, because they start a new line every time they are talking about something different, where as, the directions aren’t ordered by numbers, so it takes that little bit more effort to understand, which in my opinion isn’t a good thing because a recipe card is made specifically for people who are new to making this certain recipe, so this means that this recipe card should be structured in a way that is easy for their readers to work out with no problems at all. the font of the writing is exactly the same throughout the whole recipe card. The size of the title is just a few fonts bigger, but nothing that would make it stand out from the rest of the writing because it is in the exact same colour. The only things that are in a different colour are the side headings, which are in red. This is a little bit helpful, but the way it is structured, it is clear enough to understand what the ingredients are and what the directions are. There is no picture used at all, which is not helpful at all, and if you are like me, who’s attention is caught by pictures more than words, this would not be a recipe card I would choose to use to make chili cumin cashews. In my opinion, this recipe card is pretty tedious looking. The background is just plain white paper with no colour on it, it only has a little bit of design at the bottom which hardly stands out at all. The text is the same through the whole thing, the colours used are pretty much the same everywhere, and there is no picture to go by what it should possibly look like. There is no preference to what It should look like.
  • 4. Jollof Rice Recipe Card This recipe card holds pretty much everything you are going to need to be able to make the Jollof Rice. It has the ingredients, the method of how to make it, and a picture of what it is supposed to look like. The way it is written is very clear to understand. The ingredients and the method are separated. The ingredients are very specific in what you will need to make this and how much of every ingredient is needed. The method is set out clearly, using step by step sentences on how you should make it. It also gives tips on how to get the best out of what you are working with, for example, this particular recipe gives you a tip on how to increase the flavour of the rice. They did not need to add that in there, but because they want you to get the best out of what you are making, they did so. The font of the headings where it says ‘jollof rice’, ‘ingredients’, ‘method’, are quite difficult to read if you were not familiar with those words, for example, I did not have a clue what jollof rice was, and I struggled to read what it said to start with. This would be a problem if you were just looking for something new to make, and not specifically looking for jollof rice recipes. The texts itself is extremely clear and would be very easy to understand with no problems at all. The quality of the picture is lovely. You can see the texture in the food that has been made. You get a very nice image of what the food you are making would look like. It is simple looking food, but stands out, probably because of the optional tomatoes which are on the top of the rice. It adds colour to the food though. It is blurred at the top of the picture where the bowl is because it is just not of any use to anyone to look at. The the rice is what should be of centre of attention, not the bowl. The colour scheme is pretty much a bright yellow, which goes well with the colour of the food because the rice is a bright orangey yellow looking colour. In my opinion, this recipe card is quite a good one. It has a very useful picture so you know what it is supposed to look like. It is structured so it is extremely easy to understand and the background is pretty simple, so you don’t get side tracked by any random patterning.
  • 5. Roasted Pepper & Potato Tarts This recipe card holds a lovely professional looking picture by ‘Romulo’. It has a list of all the things that you will need to make it like most recipes. It has a step by step description on how to actually make roasted pepper and potato tarts. It also tells you how many you are going to be able to serve with the amount of ingredients given which is eight. Because it is a recipe card which is specifically made to work by off the computer, it is just simple bold headings and simple easy to read fonts. The photo which is used is of quite a high quality. The pictures I have seen of others have all been from a side, whereas this ones seems to be taken from above. In my eyes, this is a better way of taking photos of food. In others, they have always had something in the background that is not needed. With this, it just makes you focus purely on the food itself. The colour scheme is not the best but the picture itself has a lot of unusual colours to it which will grab attention. You can’t see it on this print screen I have but on the original page, it holds some important information for vegetarians trying to watch their diet. It had exactly how much was in it.
  • 6. This is a vegetarian dish from a vegetarian website. All the ingredients are relatively healthy. The photography involved in this recipe card is quite professional. Its in clear focus and has a good depth of field for the purpose intended. Personally I think the photograph could have been taken a bit further away to get more of a grasp of what the meal will actually look like. It a thorough enough guide on how to cook the dish. The colour scheme involved in the recipe card overall is relatively simple as the only colours are in the food itself. I think this is a good idea because there’s no distracting dull colours. The layout of the recipe card is quite clear with all the directions on the left and the picture on the right. The font stays consistent throughout and is clear and easy to read. It has a good layout and switches between fonts seamlessly creating a more adult effect.
  • 7. The font is easy to read and stays a good colour throughout. Although I do think the purple is a bit contrasting and unnecessary. Its doesn’t go into really fine detail but it goes into enough to understand what your making before you’ve made it. Personally I don’t like the bauble theme that its stuck to because I don’t think Filo pastry is that Christmassy. I would have preferred a similar colour scheme without the The photography in this image is good and shows the product from a good baubles regardless of the angle. I think the layout is relatively good as it has obviously segregated the time of year. method from the ingredients. The colour scheme doesn’t seem very interesting by just sticking to the bland grey’s and brown’s. It doesn’t look that appealing Overall I think this dish from a distance because there's nothing hugely eye catching. purple is a bit does look appealing to a contrasting and unnecessary. certain extent. Personally I don’t like the graphics.
  • 8. Its not the most technical recipe card in terms of its descriptions of what to do throughout the cooking process. Its also not that simple either. I think this is what would be classed as a mediocre recipe card in terms of professionalism. The font is easy to read and follow also bold titles are where they are appropriate. It also tells you what to do with the food after the cooking process. Everything on the page is in order of how you would be doing This is a recipe card for a meat dish. I would say that this recipe card is less adult it physically. The than the previous ones. This is because its using bright colours that contrast well photograph is in good together. Also the font is less formal and a bit more interesting as you can see in clear focus and it gives the top right. I think that it has an easy layout to follow with the ingredients in you the feel that that is the top left. The top left is the first place you look when you come to a piece of how it would look in real literature and the ingredients are the first thing you need when beginning to life. cook a meal so they tie in nicely together.
  • 9. This recipe card looks very basic in terms of graphic design. Its more of a straight to the point recipe card, more so than the others I have looked at. Its not going out to be eye catching, its there for people to find themselves if they want to make an apple strudel. It has more of an in depth focus on the creation of the food as a pose to how the recipe card actually looks. If these cards were handed out in a restaurant I don’t think they would be very effective because they aren’t very eye catching or interesting. It has an ok layout but I don’t think its that structured because it doesn’t seem to be in that much of a structured order, nothing seems to jump out at you when you look at the page. Its interesting that it involves the nutritional values of the food when made. This makes the card look more professional in terms of the information given but not the way it looks. The font is quite basic and there are a few bold titles to split up the page. This keeps it simple and keeps the focus on just creating the food physically. The colour scheme is quite plain and none of the colours contrast. The photograph of the food is quite basic and is of a birds eye view. This makes it look 2d or like a bit of pastry from above. If it was from a better angle you would be able to get a better idea of what the strudel looked like when finished.
  • 10. The picture is large and shows the product in a good light. Its from a good angle and shows everything in the dish. The layout is straight forward and easy to follow from start to finish. The colour scheme is very basic and there is nothing artistic about the card at all. Its almost a word document with a pretty picture at the top to finish it and make it. This card is relatively boring but it’s the quality of the image and the food involved that catches your eye. The font involved in this is the same throughout except from a bold title at the top. This is good in some ways but bad in the sense that it doesn’t really break up the page that well. Its not a recipe card written as if you have never cooked before. You do have to have some basic food knowledge to be able to cook the dish but not that much. If you can cook rice you can cook this dish. In my opinion I think this dish comes across as quite appealing because there’s not a stupid boarder that looks like its from the 90’s and the fonts not in lots of random colours. What you see is what you get.
  • 11. The photographs for both halves of this dish are both in clear focus. They look like professional images or something off an M&S advert. The layout is clear and spread out making it easy to work your way through the text. It has a nice selection of fonts that make the dish seem more adult and high class. None of the fonts are that bold which may make it difficult for older people to read it. I think the colour scheme suits the dish very well as it looks modern whilst keeping a timeless Sunday lunch the same with a slight chefs twist. It shows the vegetable dish in just the same light as the main, keeping it cool and making sure the page isn’t too over crowded. It goes from the ingredients to the directions on both parts of the meal but then the font decreases in size at the most important points. It doesn’t really go into that much detail so cooking experience is definitely needed. I think that overall this dish looks very appealing and could be something that quite a few people after seeing the card
