2. I. Welcome back my friends and classmates. Welcome back to each and
everyone of you. I hope that it was a good break for you. As luck would have
it, our spring break fell on the week that the novel corona virus showed up in
our community; local, state, and nationally.
II. We didn’t get to do the things spring breakers usually get to do because of
the novel Covid-19 virus; especially the traditional student, eighteen through
24 years of age. This year, students didn’t get to travel to warm beach
locations across the world to enjoy spring break.
III. Instead, they and we were given:
A. shelter-in-place orders, and
B. social distancing orders, and
C. wash hands frequently orders.
IV. I want to take this moment to congratulate everyone for making it through
the fifteen-day quarantine.
A. This means that the students in this speech class are doing something
right.
1. We are washing hands frequently and practicing social distancing
and studying from home.
2. We helped lower the curve as they say to give the healthcare
industry time to treat the swell of patients as cases of the Novel
Covid-19 peaks in our area.
3. B. So my fellow students, pat yourselves on the back and have a moment
for yourself that you are part of the solution!
V. Going into the second week of this pandemic in our area, the numbers are
promising that we can flatten the curve soon.
A. In Harris county, there were on the order of 200 cases starting into the
second week.
B. If we can continue this trajectory, our heroes in the healthcare industry
right now will be able to help all patients that need help.
1. They will have the masks, ventilators, and beds and space to care
for the injured.
C. The peak as patterned from China, fell in the second week. And if we as a
group, school, community follow the CDC (Center for Disease Control)
guidelines; the numbers at the peak seemto be manageable.
VI. So, again, my fellow students, stay the course and stay safe.
