What is the philosophy of education? It is a set of ideas and beliefs that guides teachers' actions and provides a framework for thinking about
educational issues. (Kauchak and Eggen, 197) Teachers use philosophy everyday in their classrooms. From the time the first student enters their room
until the last student walks out, philosophy is affecting the way the teacher runs his/her classroom and how they interact with their students. There are
four different types of educational philosophies: Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, and Social reconstuctionism. There are also five classroom
applications that help teachers decide which philosophies are used while they...show more content...
Lectures, questioning, practice and feedback are some of the teaching methods I would use in my classroom. These follow the Essentialism
philosophy. I believe that consistence in a classroom is crucial but also you have to mix things up in order to keep the students attention and keep them
interested in the curriculum. On the other hand, learning should not be all fun and games. Students will never take learning seriously if there is not
seriousness implanted in their learning experience. It is my opinion classroom learning environments should be highly structured with strong focuses
on academic work as well as essential knowledge and skills. As I stated before, a child should have just as much academic knowledge as they do
knowledge of how the world works around them. This follows both Essentialism as well as Perennialism. Perennialism is an educational philosophy
suggesting that nature is constant and that schools should teach classic knowledge. (Kauchak and Eggen, 201) Lastly, I feel that teachers should offer
frequent objective and performance assessments and feedback to their students. Students should be periodically assessed on their work and given
feedback and how they are doing. This is part of the essentialism philosophy. I believe that assessing students and giving them feedback helps the
students as well as their parents know, without question, how the students in doing, what their level of

Philosophy Statement Essay
Philosophy Statement I believe that education is the key in developing today's students into tomorrow's leaders. Education is the basis on which
individuals develop their self–concept and the desire to become more knowledgeable. I want to become an educator because I am interested in
helping elementary students become active learners and also to assist with their social skills. I believe I can make a difference to many students as
they start their educational foundation. I feel that all teachers should possess the desire to devote their hard work and efforts to their students'
educational success. I view teaching as not only one of the most respected careers, but also as one in which the rewards are great and many...show more

When I become a teacher I plan to have my students work in cooperative groups because this allows them a chance to share their knowledge and
ideas with their peers. Due to the fact that most students are on different developmental levels, those students who are of higher developmental
levels can provide the other students with their ideas and perception of their knowledge. I feel that teachers should not be scared to let their
students participate in group work because I think it is a great method of learning. I will establish an authoritarian classroom to make sure the
students behave. I will not be a strict teacher, but I will have to stand up enough to be in control of them. I will keep the classroom organized the
particular way I described earlier unless the need to rearrange the room occurs. To help keep up students' motivation I will try a variety of teaching
methods and supplements to keep things interesting. I will try my best to keep a constant good attitude and not take out my personal frustrations on
my pupils. I plan to establish discipline by warning those students who misbehave at first giving them two chances to act appropriately. If a student
still misbehaves, I will cut their privilege to go outside down by five or ten minutes according to the severity of their inappropriate behavior. If a child
still misbehaves, I will take the issue to

Philosophy of Education
Education is an essential element to the life of every person. Teachers must have a philosophy of teaching to be effective in the classroom. No matter
what way of teaching an educator chooses, it should positively affect his or her students and help to keep them on track to growing into strong
intelligent adults.
If a child is placed in a positive environment, then it will help shape them into good citizens. According to Plato, a student's environment determines his
or her morals and character. It is very important for children to be able to function in society and to learn to interact well with other people; providing a

One can only expect students to grow if they are exposed to different cultural, social, and intellectual aspects throughout their learning. These aspects
are crucial for an individual to become a well–rounded person.
Education is important because it helps students to grow physically and mentally. The overall purpose of education is to help prepare students for what
they plan to do in their lives. As Plato would state, schools should help students find their roles in society. If a student wants to attend college, that
student should take courses that will prepare them for higher education. The student interested in pursuing a trade upon graduating high school should
follow an educational path that will prepare them for such work.
A teacher should allow students to explore many educational options and experience different things. An educator should feel a sense of
accomplishment if he or she has exposed their students to a wide array of concepts and ideas. Students should be able to leave the classroom not only
having the skills they need, but also with the ability to think for themselves. Independent thinking and respect for others are valuable ideas of
Rousseau's. Students may not always agree with others, but if they are open–minded, the perspectives of others can be a great learning tool. My
particular style of teaching utilizes Rousseau's theories. Children learn best

As Abigail Adams once said, "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attained to with diligence." Just as students
learn with ardor and diligence, teaching is also a profession learned with ardor and diligence to achieve excellence as a teacher in today's classroom.
As I have grown up in a family thriving with teachers, I have seen both lessons taught and lessons learned. Children can offer a unique reward; to see a
child learn is an accomplishing and satisfying feeling. To teach is to be an intellectualist, dramatist, psychologist, and many other titles. Only teaching
offers this wide range of possibilities–and what exciting possibilities these are! Teaching styles differ among...show more content...
While the nature of students may be different, I feel the purpose of education should be similar to those performing as public educators. My
overall view of the purpose of education is to make those whom I teach better. Primarily, I want my students to be intellectually better when they
leave my classroom. With this purpose in mind, students can form educated opinions, live prosperous lives, and contribute their views to better
society and our changing world. Another overall purpose of education is to inspire. Inspiration takes the shape of many forms and the teacher can
be a most powerful example. As a teacher, one of the most inspiring lessons would be making others want to teach. I was inspired to become a
teacher by one of my own high school teachers. It is the example of an inspiring teacher that prods others to follow in his or her footsteps. This is a
goal I hope to accomplish as a public educator.
Just as the purpose of teaching public education is important to me, the method in which I choose to teach is also so. I am a firm believer in
repetition. Opening a particular lesson by reviewing information previously learned allows students to form associations, draw conclusions between the
information, and study more effectively for quizzes and exams. I will also be a teacher who tries to

My Personal Philosophy of Education Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that in my future I wanted to become a teacher. I always looked up to
my teachers, especially the ones I had in elementary school. I even played 'school' with my friends and pretended I had my own classroom. I loved
being in charge. During a summer, I was given the opportunity to work as an Energy Express mentor and work with a group of eight children. This
was one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever been through. I was a mentor to help guide the children, and by the end of the summer I felt as
if I had really accomplished something. I am planning to pursue a career in elementary education. I love children, and just knowing that as a...show

It is important to encourage the development of thinking and reasoning to enable students to use their minds. Education is important because it
gradually prepares students for a future career. As a teacher, I will try to enrich the minds of students. I want them to understand the importance of
education. I hope to serve as a role model and gain respect from all of my pupils. I trust that my teaching strategies will be inspiring, and my
dedication and passion for teaching obvious. I hope that after every successful year of teaching I develop a feeling of satisfaction. I want my
students to have an understanding of education and a positive outlook on life. I hope that by my passion for teaching I will have an impact on my
students. I want them to walk away with a continuing eagerness and motivational drive to learn and advance. Cooperative learning will be a method I
use in my classroom. I believe that in a cooperative learning group a student can learn socialization skills and how to work with others. This goes along
with the pragmatic/progressive philosophy that children learn by doing. The progressivism teaching style also includes the incorporation of
problem–solving and critical thinking techniques. I want my students to learn to think for themselves and be able to function in society. At the same
time, I will be a fellow learner myself and

Teachers, unlike any other professionals have the chance to shape and change young lives. For this reason, I believe that teaching is one of the
noblest professions that one could choose. From the time I was a young boy and watching my father in his classroom I knew always wanted to be
a teacher. It always seemed like the perfect career. A career in which I felt was best suited for me. One in which I would want to wake up earlier and

The one approach I use with one child might not be the same I can use with another. All children's level of intelligence and desire to learn is different.
As a teacher I will need to present all material in a creative and effective way not only to ensure that each child learns, but that they learn at their own
effective pace.
I believe the nature of knowledge is relative, it depends upon the person, the place, and the time. An education, just like a person, is a very beautiful
and unique thing. Someone raised in a rural environment would not receive the same type of education as someone who was raised in the city. I
know the education my parents received 30 years ago is not the same kind of education I have received. I agree with Foucault's belief that powers
shapes knowledge and knowledge shaped power. The ones who have power have the means to obtain knowledge, but to have power you must have
received knowledge first. The old saying stands true knowledge is power.
I believe the over all purpose of education is to convey a large body of knowledge effectively, to encourage the development of thinking and reasoning
and to nurture an understanding that students can extend to situations beyond the classroom. Presenting the material in a creative way and setting a
good example for children to follow does this. An education is very important if you want to have a successful career. In the society we live in you

Philosophy of Education Education is the process of learning that can take place anywhere and at any time. I believe that creativity and activity as
well as books and lessons are essential to the learning process. As a teacher, I hope to instill in the children a sense of knowledge and self–worth that
will remain with them throughout their lives. Education is important not only to maintain daily life, but also to become someone who contributes to
society. Without education people have no chance to impact the lives of others in their own community. I want to give the children I teach a chance to

Wanting to become a kindergarten teacher, I strongly believe in the value of good elementary schools. I think the emphasis of the curriculum should
be on the four major subjects: language, math, science, and social studies. The extras, computer, art, music, and physical education, should be taught
as well, but without the strong emphasis. I believe this because I have seen many students in high schools that cannot recall basic knowledge in the
major subjects because either they were not taught it or it was not emphasized to the extent needed to remember it. In terms of philosophy, I feel I
benefit most from the pragmatic approach to teaching. This approach states that teachers feel the classroom is a community of learners, not just a
teacher standing in front of a group of students. I believe this is true because it is my opinion that if the teacher is learning and exploring along with
the students, the students are more likely to be involved and interested in what is being taught. I also believe the strategies of teaching by problem
solving and encouraging democratic procedures are the most profitable in today's society. My beliefs in student involved activities, emphasis of
curriculum, and democratic classroom management are all part of the pragmatic approach. My plans are to become an early education teacher.

The Education process is one that gradually proceeds throughout life, greatly in early years and really never stops. There will always be something
someone has not learned. Knowledge is a powerful tool. One of the most well–known educators in the 20th Century, Christa McAuliffe, before her
tragic death said, "I touch the future, I teach." As an educator you seek to influence each of your students. A goal, common to many new and old
teachers; as well as, those who 'hope to be" desire the ability to touch someone's future. In the opportunity one has as an educator it is likely that the

The teacher can only dream that maybe he or she will be able to help a child to find his or her place in the world and make a change to the

I will also reflect on the professional aspects of my future career; as well as, the steps I will take to assure that my knowledge and ability to be an
educator will suit our ever–changing society.
In my quest to find that "perfect or ideal" career I took the time to explore my thoughts on what I would like to take into the education world. In
other words, what I would vision as my legacy. There are two outstanding purposes for my choosing to be an educator. The first of those reasons for
selecting a career in education is the ability to be a positive influence. It is common knowledge that youth (children and teenagers) are affected
greatly by the adults in their life. A teacher is one of those individuals.. I feel strongly that through this career I have the capability to influence
another person in a direction to fulfill him or herself. This is attainable through actions or communication. The second reason I have for becoming an
educator is the ability to share my love of subject. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. At the present time I am seeking to expand it to one

As a teacher I have a great responsibility and will strive to have a positive impact in each one of my students' lives, inside and outside of the classroom.
As an educator I believe that I will play many roles–a facilitator, a mentor, and a friend. With these functions I will contribute to helping my students
deal with the daily obstacles that they may face throughout their lives, academically and socially. There are some students that do not have asupport

Each student has a different learning style and as a teacher I have to incorporate a mixture of resources to engage all of my learners. I will use a variety
of authentic materials and tools to meet the needs of the diverse students. Such items will include the use of songs, movies, pictures, newspapers,
magazines, literature and games to attract their attention. Through these tools I will be able to present the subject matter in a unique way, thus allowing
my student to learn the lesson in the manner that suits them best. Using visual, kinesthetic, and auditory activities will enrich the lessons in a
tremendous way. Having the students actually do something with the information presented to them will allow them to retain the information best.
An additional function that a teacher holds is that of a facilitator, where the students are the center of the learning experience. As a teacher I must
encourage the development of independent thinking that will assist them throughout their educational careers and for the rest of their lives. These
future scholars will acquire this through class discussions, in which each individual will be allowed to express their own opinion and receive feedback
concerning specific concepts that relate to the Spanish culture. This type of method not only teaches students to speak independently but also allows
them to learn to respect others' opinions and beliefs. Another learning

To me knowledge and the acquiring of knowledge is not just one aspect set in stone with only one path leading to its attainment. Knowledge has
various aspects to it, and since each individual has various aspects to them the gaining of knowledge is obtained in a variety of ways being specific
to the needs of the individual. Knowledge is both relative and absolute. Certain types of knowledge can be taught to an individual, while other types of
knowledge can be discovered. We are taught certain truths in life, and we discover truths on the basis of personal exploration of the knowledge that we
have acquired throughout our life times.
The overall purpose of education goes beyond exposing students to and giving them knowledge. The teacher must possess the ability to enable the

Reflection on my Education Philosophy
Since taking my first few educational courses in education, I have realized that my philosophy on education changes as I learning more about the
profession I have entered. Every time I think I have come to a final belief statement, I learn something new about teaching and sometimes the things I
learn causes me to alter my philosophy. Therefore, I will share with you what I believe about teaching and what I've learned at this point.
As a future teacher in today's society and generation, I believe the educational system must accommodate the individual and the diverse needs of each
child. Many factors should be thought about when forming a philosophy on education. Factors as far as the increase of single parent families and dual
careers, the family structure is changing and this may play a significant part in our students. Furthermore, the issues such as teen pregnancy and drugs
and much more, children are facing more complicated issues than they ever had before. A sound philosophy on education must be developed within
the framework of social value systems. Our children are our future resources. All children can be guided to become well adjusted, functional and
intelligent adults for their own benefit and the benefit for others in society. An educator should motivate and stimulate each child to perform to the best
of their ability. Regardless of the various experiences, abilities and needs of the child. Therefore, all children must be well educated and given the

You must hold the child's hand and show them that the world is full of endless opportunities. Education is a very important part of society. I feel
that it should teach children how to function in a society, and learn the basics they will need to expand on for the rest of their life. I feel that it is
used to teach moral, and ethical standards of living. The schools are used to help the children learn to function in life, and achieve the goals of
their choosing. Education is important because without it I firmly believe that society would be a very savage institution. With the things that we
teach in today's schools we give the power to know the basics such as reading, writing, and math but we also give them the ability to function in a
society. As a teacher I hope to set my student of fire. I want to see them come alive with a desire to want everything that is out there for them. I
want to be able to make a difference in just one person's life. If I can do this I would feel I have done what I am supposed to do. I want my students
to know the world is theirs to take and do with it whatever they may choose. I strongly feel that the classroom should be ruled democratically. I feel
that each child should have a vote in what the rules should be, and what they in general would like to learn. I believe they should set educational

My Learning Philosophy
The learning experience should be that of a collective nature where students are able to indiscriminately relate to the information, re–teach the
information and have a balanced incorporation of all the learning centers in society; including the home and the church. The goal of this incorporation
is to create a balanced learning environment that facilitates holistic development in the young mind. As professionals entrusted with the shaping of
young minds, teachers must facilitate learning and personal, spiritual, ethical and academic development. My philosophy for education is a multi–part
philosophy that encapsulates the idea of holistic and inclusive learning. The philosophy caters for the overall shaping and development of the young
mind and includes aspects of balanced training, incorporated teachings and it generally focuses on training students to become teachers.
In this student–centered philosophy, learning is loosely influenced by the facilitator. As such, independence, exploration and hands–on learning is
successfully fostered. The distinction between teachers, trainers and facilitators must be duly noted in order to fully grasp their role in this philosophy.
Teachers are typically content driven individuals who impart the knowledge of concepts and theories, whilst trainers are skill driven individuals who
train people to develop practical skills and competencies in a particular area. In contrast, facilitators are process driven individuals aiding engagement

My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and
teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they've graduated from high school or college.
Education isn't something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It's a survival pack

The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the most important is preparing students to learn, not
only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore
different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is not a skill that can be memorized or made
repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are
not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an energized classroom, and will be reenergized
themselves. Every child is different. That sounds like an obvious statement, but so many ineffective teachers seem to forget this. Each student has his
or her own varying abilities, talents, and levels of competence, and it is the job of a teacher not only to recognize this, but to help each student
recognize this as well. If a child isn't doing well in a particular subject, both the teacher and the student should work towards figuring out why, and the
teacher should accept the challenge of finding a way to make a particular subject more

Everyone has their own personal views on philosophy and they also have their own educational goals, myself included. Over the course of this paper I
will discuss my views on philosophy and my educational goals. Furthermore I will address the nature of students; the nature of knowledge; the purpose
of public education; my methods of teaching; and finally the curricular areas that I feel are the most important.
First I shall discuss the nature of students. Much like Rousseau, I believe humans are born naturally innocent and are largely shaped by the
environment, they are also partially shaped by nature. Every single person has the ability to learn. Nature and nurture determine how...show more

Not only do the subjects affect the students' lives; the actual teachers themselves can have a great impact on students' lives also. I firmly believe that
elementary school teachers are one of the most influential experiences for children. One bad/good experience with a teacher can affect the whole life
of a student.
Now that I have addressed the nature of students, I shall now discuss the nature of knowledge. First of all I believe knowledge is relative, it
changes everyday with new discoveries being realized all the time. Knowledge is also different for everyone, and it depends on the person, place, and
time. As I stated before with the mentally/physically handicapped and child prodigies, no two people are exactly alike. They learn on all kinds of
levels and variables, including speed, how much, etc.
Now that I have addressed the nature of knowledge, I shall now discuss the purpose of education. I believe the overall purpose of education is to
discover the truth and pass it on. Also, by passing on knowledge we can keep life at it's present state and allow it to move on. For example, if a
caveman who learned to make fire died without passing on his knowledge, the knowledge would die with him. Therefore the ones who did not know
how to make fire would freeze to death the next winter. If we did not pass on knowledge, useful information would die along with person who held it.

My personal philosophy of special education drives not from teaching in the field, but from, observations, and personal experience, and the workshops
I attended. I have had the opportunity to work with individuals with special needs in many different settings, all this help cultivate my knowledge in
handling the needs of the special needed student. Special needs students have the ability to learn, to function, to grow, and most importantly to
succeed. The difference comes into how they learn or how they need to be taught. There are as many beliefs about the "hows" as there are teachers

There should also be hands–on time to include this strength, using magnet boards or sentence strips. Students with learning disabilities do have the
ability to overcome the disability; it is just a matter of building on strengths and finding new ways that work for the student to learn. It is not that
students with learning disabilities have something wrong with them, they only learn in a different way. In fact, all students learn differently and
focusing on each student's strengths would benefit them greatly in their education. As teachers, we should apply methods we use in Special Education
to all students. For instance, using accommodations such as graphic organizers or flexible means of presentation helps all students excel. The graphic
organizers assist with students' overall understanding and attention during the lessons. The flexible means of presentation such as lecture, group work,
and hands on work allows all students to learn the material as they each have a different primary mode of learning visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and
tactile. As an educator, it is my job to find new ways for my students to learn that coincides with their particular learning style and takes advantage of
their strengths. In all practical terms, this will mean finding new ways for each of my students to learn in their own particular way. As a whole, my
students will need more reason to learn with authentic experiences, hands–on

large part of my educational philosophy is based on the fundamentals of Progressivism. This philosophy, founded by John Dewey, organizes schools
around the concerns, curiosity, and real world experiences of students. I agree with these ideas because people must continually learn to keep up
with today's fast paced world. I believe that when learning is relevant and enjoyable students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own
learning. Progressivism has respect for individuality, a high regard for science, and a receptivity to change that I feel is critical to successful
education. As a Progressive teacher I will facilitate learning by helping students formulate meaningful questions and devise strategies to answer those
questions. In my opinion, answers are best discovered through real world experience, especially hands on learning or pragmatism. I believe that there

The relationship between teaching and learning, I believe, recalls John Keats' beauty and truth equation: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty." The pair
illustrates a symmetrical purity that is both obvious and profound. Symmetry exists in education, as well. One must learn in order to teach; one
teaches in order to learn. The college degree does not signal the end of learning; it merely indicates that each graduate possesses adequate tools for
the next phase of his or her educational process. Scholarship continues because recent research, fresh voices, and new events must be explored.
Learning in my own discipline of English is an act of infinite fascination. For example, each writer leads the reader on an odyssey of discovery, seeking
textual and contextual influences; each writer is continually examined and re–examined, adding volumes to the existing critical library; each writer
inspires another, becoming the next force keeping the quest alive.
The teacher learns in the classroom as well. Each year dozens of fresh perspectives walk into a teacher's world, increasing knowledge by the pound
instead of by the page. It is here that the didactic must

Educational Philosophies and Teaching Methods

  • 1. Educational Philosophies Educational Philosophies Elizabeth Howell Liberty University What is the philosophy of education? It is a set of ideas and beliefs that guides teachers' actions and provides a framework for thinking about educational issues. (Kauchak and Eggen, 197) Teachers use philosophy everyday in their classrooms. From the time the first student enters their room until the last student walks out, philosophy is affecting the way the teacher runs his/her classroom and how they interact with their students. There are four different types of educational philosophies: Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, and Social reconstuctionism. There are also five classroom applications that help teachers decide which philosophies are used while they...show more content... Lectures, questioning, practice and feedback are some of the teaching methods I would use in my classroom. These follow the Essentialism philosophy. I believe that consistence in a classroom is crucial but also you have to mix things up in order to keep the students attention and keep them interested in the curriculum. On the other hand, learning should not be all fun and games. Students will never take learning seriously if there is not seriousness implanted in their learning experience. It is my opinion classroom learning environments should be highly structured with strong focuses on academic work as well as essential knowledge and skills. As I stated before, a child should have just as much academic knowledge as they do knowledge of how the world works around them. This follows both Essentialism as well as Perennialism. Perennialism is an educational philosophy suggesting that nature is constant and that schools should teach classic knowledge. (Kauchak and Eggen, 201) Lastly, I feel that teachers should offer frequent objective and performance assessments and feedback to their students. Students should be periodically assessed on their work and given feedback and how they are doing. This is part of the essentialism philosophy. I believe that assessing students and giving them feedback helps the students as well as their parents know, without question, how the students in doing, what their level of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Philosophy Statement Essay Philosophy Statement I believe that education is the key in developing today's students into tomorrow's leaders. Education is the basis on which individuals develop their self–concept and the desire to become more knowledgeable. I want to become an educator because I am interested in helping elementary students become active learners and also to assist with their social skills. I believe I can make a difference to many students as they start their educational foundation. I feel that all teachers should possess the desire to devote their hard work and efforts to their students' educational success. I view teaching as not only one of the most respected careers, but also as one in which the rewards are great and many...show more content... When I become a teacher I plan to have my students work in cooperative groups because this allows them a chance to share their knowledge and ideas with their peers. Due to the fact that most students are on different developmental levels, those students who are of higher developmental levels can provide the other students with their ideas and perception of their knowledge. I feel that teachers should not be scared to let their students participate in group work because I think it is a great method of learning. I will establish an authoritarian classroom to make sure the students behave. I will not be a strict teacher, but I will have to stand up enough to be in control of them. I will keep the classroom organized the particular way I described earlier unless the need to rearrange the room occurs. To help keep up students' motivation I will try a variety of teaching methods and supplements to keep things interesting. I will try my best to keep a constant good attitude and not take out my personal frustrations on my pupils. I plan to establish discipline by warning those students who misbehave at first giving them two chances to act appropriately. If a student still misbehaves, I will cut their privilege to go outside down by five or ten minutes according to the severity of their inappropriate behavior. If a child still misbehaves, I will take the issue to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Philosophy of Education Essay example Philosophy of Education Education is an essential element to the life of every person. Teachers must have a philosophy of teaching to be effective in the classroom. No matter what way of teaching an educator chooses, it should positively affect his or her students and help to keep them on track to growing into strong intelligent adults. If a child is placed in a positive environment, then it will help shape them into good citizens. According to Plato, a student's environment determines his or her morals and character. It is very important for children to be able to function in society and to learn to interact well with other people; providing a positive learning environment plays a crucial role in instilling these...show more content... One can only expect students to grow if they are exposed to different cultural, social, and intellectual aspects throughout their learning. These aspects are crucial for an individual to become a well–rounded person. Education is important because it helps students to grow physically and mentally. The overall purpose of education is to help prepare students for what they plan to do in their lives. As Plato would state, schools should help students find their roles in society. If a student wants to attend college, that student should take courses that will prepare them for higher education. The student interested in pursuing a trade upon graduating high school should follow an educational path that will prepare them for such work. A teacher should allow students to explore many educational options and experience different things. An educator should feel a sense of accomplishment if he or she has exposed their students to a wide array of concepts and ideas. Students should be able to leave the classroom not only having the skills they need, but also with the ability to think for themselves. Independent thinking and respect for others are valuable ideas of Rousseau's. Students may not always agree with others, but if they are open–minded, the perspectives of others can be a great learning tool. My particular style of teaching utilizes Rousseau's theories. • 4. Philosophy of Education Essay examples Philosophy As Abigail Adams once said, "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attained to with diligence." Just as students learn with ardor and diligence, teaching is also a profession learned with ardor and diligence to achieve excellence as a teacher in today's classroom. As I have grown up in a family thriving with teachers, I have seen both lessons taught and lessons learned. Children can offer a unique reward; to see a child learn is an accomplishing and satisfying feeling. To teach is to be an intellectualist, dramatist, psychologist, and many other titles. Only teaching offers this wide range of possibilities–and what exciting possibilities these are! Teaching styles differ among...show more content... While the nature of students may be different, I feel the purpose of education should be similar to those performing as public educators. My overall view of the purpose of education is to make those whom I teach better. Primarily, I want my students to be intellectually better when they leave my classroom. With this purpose in mind, students can form educated opinions, live prosperous lives, and contribute their views to better society and our changing world. Another overall purpose of education is to inspire. Inspiration takes the shape of many forms and the teacher can be a most powerful example. As a teacher, one of the most inspiring lessons would be making others want to teach. I was inspired to become a teacher by one of my own high school teachers. It is the example of an inspiring teacher that prods others to follow in his or her footsteps. This is a goal I hope to accomplish as a public educator. Just as the purpose of teaching public education is important to me, the method in which I choose to teach is also so. I am a firm believer in repetition. Opening a particular lesson by reviewing information previously learned allows students to form associations, draw conclusions between the information, and study more effectively for quizzes and exams. I will also be a teacher who tries to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Personal Philosophy of Education Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that in my future I wanted to become a teacher. I always looked up to my teachers, especially the ones I had in elementary school. I even played 'school' with my friends and pretended I had my own classroom. I loved being in charge. During a summer, I was given the opportunity to work as an Energy Express mentor and work with a group of eight children. This was one of the most wonderful experiences I have ever been through. I was a mentor to help guide the children, and by the end of the summer I felt as if I had really accomplished something. I am planning to pursue a career in elementary education. I love children, and just knowing that as a...show more content... It is important to encourage the development of thinking and reasoning to enable students to use their minds. Education is important because it gradually prepares students for a future career. As a teacher, I will try to enrich the minds of students. I want them to understand the importance of education. I hope to serve as a role model and gain respect from all of my pupils. I trust that my teaching strategies will be inspiring, and my dedication and passion for teaching obvious. I hope that after every successful year of teaching I develop a feeling of satisfaction. I want my students to have an understanding of education and a positive outlook on life. I hope that by my passion for teaching I will have an impact on my students. I want them to walk away with a continuing eagerness and motivational drive to learn and advance. Cooperative learning will be a method I use in my classroom. I believe that in a cooperative learning group a student can learn socialization skills and how to work with others. This goes along with the pragmatic/progressive philosophy that children learn by doing. The progressivism teaching style also includes the incorporation of problem–solving and critical thinking techniques. I want my students to learn to think for themselves and be able to function in society. At the same time, I will be a fellow learner myself and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Philosophy of Teaching Essay examples Philosophy of Education Teachers, unlike any other professionals have the chance to shape and change young lives. For this reason, I believe that teaching is one of the noblest professions that one could choose. From the time I was a young boy and watching my father in his classroom I knew always wanted to be a teacher. It always seemed like the perfect career. A career in which I felt was best suited for me. One in which I would want to wake up earlier and earlier every morning because I would be excited at the fact that I knew that I was on my way to help develop the future minds of our world. I believe the intrinsic rewards for this profession are far greater than the extrinsic ones and not too many other professionals...show more content... The one approach I use with one child might not be the same I can use with another. All children's level of intelligence and desire to learn is different. As a teacher I will need to present all material in a creative and effective way not only to ensure that each child learns, but that they learn at their own effective pace. I believe the nature of knowledge is relative, it depends upon the person, the place, and the time. An education, just like a person, is a very beautiful and unique thing. Someone raised in a rural environment would not receive the same type of education as someone who was raised in the city. I know the education my parents received 30 years ago is not the same kind of education I have received. I agree with Foucault's belief that powers shapes knowledge and knowledge shaped power. The ones who have power have the means to obtain knowledge, but to have power you must have received knowledge first. The old saying stands true knowledge is power. I believe the over all purpose of education is to convey a large body of knowledge effectively, to encourage the development of thinking and reasoning and to nurture an understanding that students can extend to situations beyond the classroom. Presenting the material in a creative way and setting a good example for children to follow does this. An education is very important if you want to have a successful career. • 7. My Personal Philosophy of Education Essay Philosophy of Education Education is the process of learning that can take place anywhere and at any time. I believe that creativity and activity as well as books and lessons are essential to the learning process. As a teacher, I hope to instill in the children a sense of knowledge and self–worth that will remain with them throughout their lives. Education is important not only to maintain daily life, but also to become someone who contributes to society. Without education people have no chance to impact the lives of others in their own community. I want to give the children I teach a chance to give back to their community and society. Although ethics and morals are constantly being...show more content... Wanting to become a kindergarten teacher, I strongly believe in the value of good elementary schools. I think the emphasis of the curriculum should be on the four major subjects: language, math, science, and social studies. The extras, computer, art, music, and physical education, should be taught as well, but without the strong emphasis. I believe this because I have seen many students in high schools that cannot recall basic knowledge in the major subjects because either they were not taught it or it was not emphasized to the extent needed to remember it. In terms of philosophy, I feel I benefit most from the pragmatic approach to teaching. This approach states that teachers feel the classroom is a community of learners, not just a teacher standing in front of a group of students. I believe this is true because it is my opinion that if the teacher is learning and exploring along with the students, the students are more likely to be involved and interested in what is being taught. I also believe the strategies of teaching by problem solving and encouraging democratic procedures are the most profitable in today's society. My beliefs in student involved activities, emphasis of curriculum, and democratic classroom management are all part of the pragmatic approach. My plans are to become an early education teacher. Preferably pre–kindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade teacher. I will always be a kid Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Philosophy of Education Essay examples Philosophy of Education missing works cited The Education process is one that gradually proceeds throughout life, greatly in early years and really never stops. There will always be something someone has not learned. Knowledge is a powerful tool. One of the most well–known educators in the 20th Century, Christa McAuliffe, before her tragic death said, "I touch the future, I teach." As an educator you seek to influence each of your students. A goal, common to many new and old teachers; as well as, those who 'hope to be" desire the ability to touch someone's future. I will also reflect on the professional aspects of my future career; as well as, the steps I will take to assure that my knowledge and ability to be an educator will suit our ever–changing society. In my quest to find that "perfect or ideal" career I took the time to explore my thoughts on what I would like to take into the education world. In other words, what I would vision as my legacy. There are two outstanding purposes for my choosing to be an educator. The first of those reasons for selecting a career in education is the ability to be a positive influence. It is common knowledge that youth (children and teenagers) are affected greatly by the adults in their life. A teacher is one of those individuals.. I feel strongly that through this career I have the capability to influence another person in a direction to fulfill him or herself. This is attainable through actions or communication. The second reason I have for becoming an educator is the ability to share my love of subject. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. At the present time I am seeking to expand it to one which includes General Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As an educator I believe that I will play many roles–a facilitator, a mentor, and a friend. With these functions I will contribute to helping my students deal with the daily obstacles that they may face throughout their lives, academically and socially. I will use a variety of authentic materials and tools to meet the needs of the diverse students. Such items will include the use of songs, movies, pictures, newspapers, magazines, literature and games to attract their attention. Through these tools I will be able to present the subject matter in a unique way, thus allowing my student to learn the lesson in the manner that suits them best. Using visual, kinesthetic, and auditory activities will enrich the lessons in a tremendous way. Having the students actually do something with the information presented to them will allow them to retain the information best. An additional function that a teacher holds is that of a facilitator, where the students are the center of the learning experience. As a teacher I must encourage the development of independent thinking that will assist them throughout their educational careers and for the rest of their lives. These future scholars will acquire this through class discussions, in which each individual will be allowed to express their own opinion and receive feedback concerning specific concepts that relate to the Spanish culture. This type of method not only teaches students to speak independently but also allows them to learn to respect others' opinions and beliefs. Another learning Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Philosophy Of Education Essay Philosophy of Education I am twenty–eight years old, and have only decided to become a teacher within the past two years. I have always wanted to help people in some way, yet I was not sure of what area or angle to go with my humanitarian instincts. While at University, two of my professors would continually express their feelings on what an impact I would make as a teacher. This planted the seed. I later became pregnant with and gave birth to my daughter. When you are pregnant and have children you have many worries and anxieties, including the stress of who will be caring for and teaching your child. To me knowledge and the acquiring of knowledge is not just one aspect set in stone with only one path leading to its attainment. Knowledge has various aspects to it, and since each individual has various aspects to them the gaining of knowledge is obtained in a variety of ways being specific to the needs of the individual. Knowledge is both relative and absolute. Certain types of knowledge can be taught to an individual, while other types of knowledge can be discovered. We are taught certain truths in life, and we discover truths on the basis of personal exploration of the knowledge that we have acquired throughout our life times. The overall purpose of education goes beyond exposing students to and giving them knowledge. The teacher must possess the ability to enable the students to not only function in the world, but also to critically think, analyze, impact, and interact within it. Knowledge and education are beautiful things when properly administered and practiced. One can acquire facts and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflection on my Education Philosophy Since taking my first few educational courses in education, I have realized that my philosophy on education changes as I learning more about the profession I have entered. Every time I think I have come to a final belief statement, I learn something new about teaching and sometimes the things I learn causes me to alter my philosophy. Therefore, I will share with you what I believe about teaching and what I've learned at this point. As a future teacher in today's society and generation, I believe the educational system must accommodate the individual and the diverse needs of each child. Many factors should be thought about when forming a philosophy on education. Factors as far as the increase of single parent families and dual careers, the family structure is changing and this may play a significant part in our students. Furthermore, the issues such as teen pregnancy and drugs and much more, children are facing more complicated issues than they ever had before. A sound philosophy on education must be developed within the framework of social value systems. Our children are our future resources. All children can be guided to become well adjusted, functional and intelligent adults for their own benefit and the benefit for others in society. An educator should motivate and stimulate each child to perform to the best of their ability. Regardless of the various experiences, abilities and needs of the child. Therefore, all children must be well educated and given the opportunity Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There are many advantages to teaching. I feel that is a very fulfilling profession. I have seen my sister in the classroom, and it greatly inspired me to want to make a difference in some ones life. Through watching my sister in action I was inspired to follow in her footsteps. I believe that each child has the will to learn, and that if they have a teacher who is on fire they will be on fire. You must hold the child's hand and show them that the world is full of endless opportunities. Education is a very important part of society. I feel that it should teach children how to function in a society, and learn the basics they will need to expand on for the rest of their life. I feel that it is used to teach moral, and ethical standards of living. The schools are used to help the children learn to function in life, and achieve the goals of their choosing. Education is important because without it I firmly believe that society would be a very savage institution. With the things that we teach in today's schools we give the power to know the basics such as reading, writing, and math but we also give them the ability to function in a society. As a teacher I hope to set my student of fire. I want to see them come alive with a desire to want everything that is out there for them. I want to be able to make a difference in just one person's life. If I can do this I would feel I have done what I am supposed to do. I want my students to know the world is theirs to take and do with it whatever they may choose. I strongly feel that the classroom should be ruled democratically. I feel that each child should have a vote in what the rules should be, and what they in general would like to learn. I believe they should set educational goals for the class, and help determine how these goals should be achieved. I feel that by using Project–based Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This is one of the reasons for my wanting to become a teacher. I also enjoy seeing people learn things that are difficult for them. • 15. My Learning Philosophy The learning experience should be that of a collective nature where students are able to indiscriminately relate to the information, re–teach the information and have a balanced incorporation of all the learning centers in society; including the home and the church. The goal of this incorporation is to create a balanced learning environment that facilitates holistic development in the young mind. As professionals entrusted with the shaping of young minds, teachers must facilitate learning and personal, spiritual, ethical and academic development. My philosophy for education is a multi–part philosophy that encapsulates the idea of holistic and inclusive learning. The philosophy caters for the overall shaping and development of the young mind and includes aspects of balanced training, incorporated teachings and it generally focuses on training students to become teachers. In this student–centered philosophy, learning is loosely influenced by the facilitator. As such, independence, exploration and hands–on learning is successfully fostered. The distinction between teachers, trainers and facilitators must be duly noted in order to fully grasp their role in this philosophy. Teachers are typically content driven individuals who impart the knowledge of concepts and theories, whilst trainers are skill driven individuals who train people to develop practical skills and competencies in a particular area. In contrast, facilitators are process driven individuals aiding engagement Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. My Teaching Philosophy Essay My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they've graduated from high school or college. Education isn't something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It's a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs. That being said, I also believe that a crucial part of education does...show more content... The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the most important is preparing students to learn, not only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an energized classroom, and will be reenergized themselves. Every child is different. That sounds like an obvious statement, but so many ineffective teachers seem to forget this. Each student has his or her own varying abilities, talents, and levels of competence, and it is the job of a teacher not only to recognize this, but to help each student recognize this as well. If a child isn't doing well in a particular subject, both the teacher and the student should work towards figuring out why, and the teacher should accept the challenge of finding a way to make a particular subject more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Philosophy of Education Essays Philosophy of Education Everyone has their own personal views on philosophy and they also have their own educational goals, myself included. Over the course of this paper I will discuss my views on philosophy and my educational goals. Furthermore I will address the nature of students; the nature of knowledge; the purpose of public education; my methods of teaching; and finally the curricular areas that I feel are the most important. First I shall discuss the nature of students. Much like Rousseau, I believe humans are born naturally innocent and are largely shaped by the environment, they are also partially shaped by nature. Every single person has the ability to learn. Nature and nurture determine how...show more content... Not only do the subjects affect the students' lives; the actual teachers themselves can have a great impact on students' lives also. I firmly believe that elementary school teachers are one of the most influential experiences for children. One bad/good experience with a teacher can affect the whole life of a student. Now that I have addressed the nature of students, I shall now discuss the nature of knowledge. First of all I believe knowledge is relative, it changes everyday with new discoveries being realized all the time. Knowledge is also different for everyone, and it depends on the person, place, and time. As I stated before with the mentally/physically handicapped and child prodigies, no two people are exactly alike. They learn on all kinds of levels and variables, including speed, how much, etc. Now that I have addressed the nature of knowledge, I shall now discuss the purpose of education. I believe the overall purpose of education is to discover the truth and pass it on. Also, by passing on knowledge we can keep life at it's present state and allow it to move on. For example, if a caveman who learned to make fire died without passing on his knowledge, the knowledge would die with him. Therefore the ones who did not know how to make fire would freeze to death the next winter. If we did not pass on knowledge, useful information would die along with person who held it. Could you imagine inventing everything

I have had the opportunity to work with individuals with special needs in many different settings, all this help cultivate my knowledge in handling the needs of the special needed student. Special needs students have the ability to learn, to function, to grow, and most importantly to succeed. The difference comes into how they learn or how they need to be taught. Students with learning disabilities do have the ability to overcome the disability; it is just a matter of building on strengths and finding new ways that work for the student to learn. It is not that students with learning disabilities have something wrong with them, they only learn in a different way. In fact, all students learn differently and focusing on each student's strengths would benefit them greatly in their education. As teachers, we should apply methods we use in Special Education to all students. For instance, using accommodations such as graphic organizers or flexible means of presentation helps all students excel. The graphic organizers assist with students' overall understanding and attention during the lessons. The flexible means of presentation such as lecture, group work, and hands on work allows all students to learn the material as they each have a different primary mode of learning visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile. As an educator, it is my job to find new ways for my students to learn that coincides with their particular learning style and takes advantage of their strengths. In all practical terms, this will mean finding new ways for each of my students to learn in their own particular way. Educational Goals and Philosophy Essay examples Educational Goals and Philosophy As a student of education, I have been able to gather many ideas and opinions about practices and ideals I want to implement in my future classroom. My philosophies about education are still being formed and continually change with every class I visit and with every educator I encounter. My ideas, admittedly, come from random experiences and intangible texts, but as I gain more experience in the field through my courses, my philosophies about teaching will become more clearly defined. Education continually brings us new adventures just waiting for us to experience its wonder and possibilities. I believe that students, when presented with a wide variety of interesting lessons, can become interested and motivated in a way that they never have before. A large part of my educational philosophy is based on the fundamentals of Progressivism. This philosophy, founded by John Dewey, organizes schools around the concerns, curiosity, and real world experiences of students. I agree with these ideas because people must continually learn to keep up with today's fast paced world. I believe that when learning is relevant and enjoyable students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. Progressivism has respect for individuality, a high regard for science, and a receptivity to change that I feel is critical to successful education. As a Progressive teacher I will facilitate learning by helping students formulate meaningful questions and devise strategies to answer those questions. In my opinion, answers are best discovered through real world experience, especially hands on learning or pragmatism. I believe that there is a time and place for book–learning; however, there is no substitute for actually doing things. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. My Philosophy of Teaching Essay examples Philosophy of Education Our convictions border every aspect of our lives from the monumental to the minute; for example, we possess a complex system of thought governing how we function as moral members of an often amoral society, and we utilize an equally complex system concerning our devotion to a favorite television show. However, the process of actualizing a philosophy is daunting. We rarely externalize our beliefs. Why? Are artists the only beings able to successfully translate the abstract into the concrete? Are we too lazy, too busy to question ourconvictions? Do we fear discovery of the possible irrational basis of our lives? Or, perhaps we are too afraid to realize the rigid walls bounding our existence. Whatever...show more content... I needed to understand, to develop my own philosophy devised for my new role as a teacher. I knew I had to start thinking like a teacher, but I also knew I didn't want to forget being a student. Teaching is learning; learning is teaching. The relationship between teaching and learning, I believe, recalls John Keats' beauty and truth equation: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty." The pair illustrates a symmetrical purity that is both obvious and profound. Symmetry exists in education, as well. One must learn in order to teach; one teaches in order to learn. The college degree does not signal the end of learning; it merely indicates that each graduate possesses adequate tools for the next phase of his or her educational process. Scholarship continues because recent research, fresh voices, and new events must be explored. Learning in my own discipline of English is an act of infinite fascination. For example, each writer leads the reader on an odyssey of discovery, seeking textual and contextual influences; each writer is continually examined and re–examined, adding volumes to the existing critical library; each writer inspires another, becoming the next force keeping the quest alive. The teacher learns in the classroom as well. Each year dozens of fresh perspectives walk into a teacher's world, increasing knowledge by the pound instead of by the page.
