Staffing is the chapter and the most important topic in Business studies. It is one of the major managerial process. This is termed as the management of staffing function. In the simplest terms, staffing is ‘putting people to jobs’. It begins with workforce planning and includes different other function like recruitment, selection, training, development, promotion, compensation and performance appraisal of work force. In other words, staffing is that part of the process of management which is concerned with obtaining, utilising and maintaining a satisfactory and satisfied work force.
3. Selection
Selection is the part of managerial function i.e Staffing.
Selection is the process of identifying and choosing the best person out
of a number of prospective candidates for a job.
4. Definition of Selection
Selection is the process in which an enterprise chooses the
applicants who best meet the criteria for the available

Selection is the screening and filtering process of job
applicants who have been invited to apply for a vacant
positions through which the process comes to an end. - By M

5. Concept of Selection
In Selection, the candidates are required to take a series of
employment tests and interviews.
At every stage many are eliminated and a few move on to the
next stage until the right type is found.

8. Selection Tests
An employment test is a mechanism (either a paper and pencil
test or an exercise) that attempts to measure certain
characteristics of individuals. These characteristics ranges from
aptitudes such as manual dexterity, to intelligence to personality.
TYPES OF TESTS
9. Employment Interview
Interview is a formal, in-depth conversation conducted to
evaluate the applicant's suitability for the job. The role of
interviewer to seek information from the candidate .
10. Reference and background checks
Many Employers request names, addresses, and telephone
numbers of references for the purpose of verifying information
and gaining additional information of an applicant.
11. Selection decision
The final decision has to be made from among the candidates
who pass the tests, interviews and reference checks. The
concerned manager will be generally considered in the final
selection decision.
12. Medical Examination
The candidate is required to undergo a medical fitness test. The
job is offer only to the healthy and mentally fit and sound
candidates.
13. Job Offer & Contract of Employment
After clearing all the processes Job offer is being made through
a letter of appointment/ confirm his acceptance.
After Job Offer, candidate accepts the offer, certain documents
need to be executed by the employer and candidate.
Following details are confront to the candidate:
Date of initiation, grade pay, rules, grievance rules, code of
conduct, leave rules, allowances, work hours, etc.
