WHITEPAPER : SAP Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Integrated Solution for a large Telco in APAC
I would like to share with you my experience of implementing SAP Profitability and Cost Management (PCM) 10.0
and SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) 10.0 at one of the largest Telecom Providers in Southeast Asia. I
believe this will be one of its first implementations in this region (APAC) for an integrated PCM, BPC, Business
Warehouse(BW) and SAP ECC 6.0 project. There were huge expectations in managing a complex customer
requirement, with an irate customer, untried solutions and volumes of data not handled ever before. I personally
started around May 2013 on this project when it was under escalation thus making it another ‘rescue’ project for
self. There were parts of the solution which had gone live and parts which were still being done. My role in the
project was to do the entire process analysis and mapping, technical design and realisation not to mention the
project management. There were 4 BPC models architected apart from the other pre-existing BPC models to handle
the data extraction from ECC, reclass, mapping, data entry requirements and final reporting requirements. Within
PCM also, there were 4 models being used to meet the product costing and management reporting requirements. A
key customer KPI set for the consulting team was the ‘TO BE’ solution is for the business and by the business team.
Thus IT Team involvement and participation in day to day operation and maintenance to be kept minimal.
The integrated solution architecture diagram specific to BPC and PCM is as following:

The customer requirements were as following:
• Bring efficiencies into current management reporting (MR) process which took approx 15 days into an
automated process
• Reconcile the Financial Reporting with the Management Reporting into an easier process
• More granularity of reporting for Product Costing (PC), MR reporting from the current 3 dimensions-
Technology, Customer Facing Unit, Brands to 5 dimensions-Products as well as the Streams.
• Do the product costing in an accurate manner and its corresponding reporting aspects
• Facilitate multi iteration and simulation process
Some of the critical success factors which led to success of this project are:
• Innovation and out of box thinking
• Very fast learning curve for the dedicated team of 7 members
• Reasonable and committed customer team
• Excellent understanding of all SAP modules, products and process
• Understanding the customer pain points and delivering value around it
