Personal Statement:
An adaptive, diligent and learning focused second year computer security student at Sheffield Hallam University
looking for a placement to further improve knowledge and skills developed throughout the current course that will
be both beneficial and challenging. I’ve a strong drive to do things to the best of my ability and always try to
produce a positive outlook on the task in hand. I am able to work comfortably on my own or in a group of any size
and can take leadership should there be need to be any. I enjoy traveling and going to new places as well as of
course computing which is whyI plan on moving away from Sheffield for my placementyear.
Skills:
General skills:
- Teamwork both within small and large groups (from bar work and during my university course).
- The ability to work alone and engage in independentlearning in order to understand better the
tasks I’ve been set.
- Leadership skills from both sporting (football) and educational (team leader ofvarious group
projects) activities.
- Having a calm and collective approach to work whilstdealing with problems thatmayoccur in a
working environment.
- The will to maintain the effort required to complete tasks efficientlyand on time whatever the case.
Technical skills:
- How to build and maintain a network and its securityas well as being comfortable with Cisco
PacketTracer.
- How to build and put together the physical parts of a PC without difficulty.
- Various BIOS and software knowledge as well as how to use and maintain them.
- Many encryption techniques such as DES,RSA and various other Ciphers including how to
incorporate them into Microsoft Excel.
- Computer mathematics skills such as logic gates and Boolean algebra.
- Some knowledge on how to use both Python Scripter and Visual Basic to create code using the
many various features they have.
- How to use and incorporate SQL into databases to secure and safeguard them.
- Skills in both Wireshark and EnCase (digital forensics).
Hobbies & Interests:
I enjoy engaging in regular social activity, whether it is whilstI’m gaming,playing football or simplysocialising
with friends which has greatlyimproved my communication skills. I enjoy staying as active as possible,playing
football whenever I have the chance as well as attending gym sessions.Thanks to my parents I have been able
to engage myselfin a lot of charity work around Derby for various charities including abseiling down the local
cathedral. I’m also very interested in astrologyand enjoy using my telescope to look at certain stars as and when
I can. I have been lucky enough to be able to choose the parts and build my own PC, something thatI had
wanted to do for a while and was included as a task in one of my first year modules where Igained a mark of
100%.I feel being able to do this in my own time is something thathas taughtme very effective and computer
specific skills thatI can take into the industry with me as well as showing myinterestin the subjectof computing.
