2. CHECKERS – Grocery & food retailer
Period employed: August 2010 – September 2012
Position held: Fresh food manager
I moved to Middelburg to assist in opening a new Checkers store in Middelburg Mall (opened 19 April
2012), to acquire the necessary experience to better myself as a retail manager. I was working there as
a fresh food manager, and the store has an approximate floor space of 4000 square meters.
It is a very large store with a very good turnover, and it has meant a lot for me to gain this necessary
experience. I started here in Middelburg on the 1st
of April, and I did all the relays, merchandising,
opening promotion orders, set up of all service depts., organising of installations of equipment, staff
training etc.
During my tenure at Checkers I also assisted in openings of various stores throughout the Gauteng &
Transvaal division. This would include store layouts, merchandising, opening orders, promotion
planning etc. I also worked in various different stores in the Pretoria South region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Daily closing and opening duties.

requirements are met.
Reason for leaving: I received a very good offer as a Branch Manager at Plasticland

coupled with clear background knowledge of circumstances to provide value-added solutions
to our customers.

such as iron ore, chrome ore, tantalite and cassiterite (tin ore). I built up a strong infrastructure
network with various contacts in the mining and trading sector in most parts of Central and
Southern Africa.
Reason for leaving: Political instability in the region caused rebel attacks in the Eastern DRC, with the
result that the borders were closed and no exports of minerals could be made from that region. Many of
the mining companies closed down and it was not viable to run a business in the area anymore
3. FREELANCE CONSULTANT FOR MITTAL STEEL SA (In Rwanda)
Period employed: December 2006 – July 2007

a) Logistical Support – arranging accommodation, flights and other operational support for
representatives and engineers. Organising transport to and from mining concessions.
Organising all documentation required to export samples etc.
b) Organising of mineral deposits (tin) for Mittal Steel SA – WE presented an opportunity to
them (Mr Alan van der Merwe – Manager of Strategy, Procurement and BBBEE at that time)
to acquire mining concessions of tin deposits in Rwanda. This would have fully serviced their
tin requirements in SA for a very long period of time. We arranged meetings for them with the
Minister of Mines and facilitated the whole deal. The minister was ready to sign with them,
but at the end Mittal Steel’s top executives in London pulled out of the deal, due to political
reasons.
5. c) Provisioning of budgets and other required general documentation. I provided assistance in
drafting budgets for processing of minerals, acquiring equipment and other important required
budgets.
d) Negotiations with the Minster of Mines in Rwanda – I provided assistance with

required budgets with regard to capital and cost expenditures etc
c) Providing support to the General Manager – I handled and sorted out most of the problems
occurring with employees, suppliers, freight forwarders etc, also providing assistance in
general where required
d) I maintained relations with suppliers of equipment and minerals, handling general day- to-day
correspondence with various important parties (through providing status updates, sorting out
