2. • THE CELL MEMBRANE
• The cell membrane also called the plasma membrane.
A thing membrane that surround every living cell.
Electron microscope has show that cell membrane
has a clear structure having total thickness of 10 to 7
nm , and is Know as unite membrane. Biologically the
cell membrane is composed of complex mixture of
lipid 40% protein 55% and carbohydrate 5%.

3. • THE FLUID MOSAIC MODEL OF MEMBERS
STRUCTURE
• In 1972 singer and Nicolson put forward the
fluid mosaic model of membrane structure
which is presently most accepted
• STRUCTURE :
• FLUID : the molecules can move within the
membrane
• MOSAIC : Others molecules eg proteins are
embedded within the possibility by layer .

6. 1. PHOSPHOLIPID MOLECULES
• A phospholipid is a lipid made of glycerol, 2 fatty
acid layers and a phosphate linked head group.
• phospholipid molecules is omphiphatic molecule
• Polar head- hydrophilic ( water living )
• No polar tales – hydrophobic (water hating )
• Amphipathic = 50% hydrophilic and 50%
hydrophobic.

7. 2. PROTEIN
• There are two types of protein found
in cell membrane.
• Integral protein buried in cell (70% of
total protein)
• Peripheral protein - present on of
surface of cell membrane (30% total
protein)

8. 3. CARBOHYDRATE
• Carbohydrate are the third
Major of cell membrane.
• Cell protection and / or
insolution.
• Receptor sites for binding of
other molecules.
• Attachment of cell to one others

9. 4. CHOLESTEROL
• Cholesterol in essential lipid
constituents of cell membrane.
• Cholesterol precursor steroid
hormone of bill acid.
• High plasma cholesterol promotes
atherosclerosis.
• Precursor for vitamin D.

10. • FUNCTION
• Protective: from outer most boundary of cell.
• Digestive: takes in food and excretes wasted products.
• Selective permeability: Helps in transport across the cell
membrane.
• Cell adhesion molecule : present on the plasma membrane of
certain cell plays on important role in the inflammation .
• Junction: Helps information of various type of junction along
with the help of cytoskeleton elements.
