Weighting IIQs
IIQs can be weighted in 3 ways:
• Total points that can be earned for question
• For each answer within a question - the percentage of total
points possible for that particular question
• Type of question - “Score”, “Knockout” or “Forward” - has an
impact on the entire set of IIQs

Weighting IIQs
• “Score” designation means that the question will be scored
• A “Forward” designation means that regardless of the total
score, the candidate will automatically be forwarded to the
SIQs
• A “Knockout” designation means that the candidate will be
automatically disqualified
• A “Forward” designation overrides a “Knockout”

• You can adjust the score until a ideal flow is

• Between 15 and 20 questions
• Primary attributes should make up the bulk of the

• Essential attributes should be used more sparingly
• At least one “Forward” answer

candidate cannot guess the correct response

Be sure to not use IIQs that involve too many variables – ask
about one skill at a time.

• Secondary Interview Questions (SIQs) are the candidates
opportunity to brag about their experience
• These questions should focus entirely on the essential and
primary attributes
• Ask the HM to give you specific questions he or she asks
during an interview or phone screen
• You should have a high correlation between the SIQ’s and
the tasks and soft skills described in the 3rd paragraph

IIQs and SIQs May 20137 Weighting IIQs IIQs can be weighted in 3 ways: • Total points that can be earned for question • For each answer within a question - the percentage of total points possible for that particular question • Type of question - “Score”, “Knockout” or “Forward” - has an impact on the entire set of IIQs Total possible points %tage of total type of question

IIQs and SIQs May 20138 Weighting IIQs • “Score” designation means that the question will be scored • A “Forward” designation means that regardless of the total score, the candidate will automatically be forwarded to the SIQs • A “Knockout” designation means that the candidate will be automatically disqualified • A “Forward” designation overrides a “Knockout” automatic knockout automatic forward

These questions usually have an “K” designation. 15 Primary These attributes are primary functions of the position and the possession of several, not all, of them is necessary. 10 Preferences These attributes are nice to have, but are easily overlooked if the above are met. 5 Data Point The purpose of this question is to obtain specific data on the candidate, not evaluate the individual. 1 3rd section of job plan

Editor's Notes

  1. Search “core” in the library to get most all basic information questions
  2. Essential attributes should be used more sparingly or the job may be hard to fill
  3. These are guidelines not hard and fast rules. There may be occasions when an essential attribute might be the first on the list. There are questions that are inappropriate and should not be asked for legal reasons – such as marital status, age, diversity, sexual preference, etc.
  4. Not enough spread of scoring. We must only reward the most qualified candidates, periods, repetition in “delivered”
  5. Obvious, lower case, points, colon
  6. Too general, “would be new to” and using “you”
  7. There should also be a strong correlation between the most essential areas addressed by the IIQs. The SIQs should give the opportunity to expand upon or provide more detail of the topics most heavily weighted in the IIQs
