2. He studied in children's hospitals to make observations on the
children and he was shocked by the unhappiness he saw in the
children.
He was against the children being separated from the mothers,
without the parents being there; it caused distress.
He investigated how the children's behaviour changed the more
they got neglected.
Young children separated from their mothers are likely to
experience stages of aggression.
James Robertson worked along side Bowlby, they didn’t show
there theoretical investigations in public so there is no evidence
except from there own words.
He worked alongside John Bowlby
3. James Robertson's investigation has affected a child's
practise in settings such as nursery and preschools now
allow certain days for parents to come in and visit. This
allows the children to stay independent but also still
have the connection with their mothers.
In addition, in hospitals children with long term
illnesses can have their parents stay over night, this
makes them feel more safe and secure. Therefore
happier in the setting.
4. There were rumours about the theory and
many dis-agreements because the theory was
difficult to confirm.
Although he could prove his theory that
children are unhappy when they are not with
there mothers, he didn’t know if this theory
applied to all children.
