2. Watching science and crime fiction movies to me is like escaping from
the reality into the world of fantasy where everything is beyond my
imagination. Science fiction is a genre of fiction in which the stories often tell
about science and technology of the future. However, crime fiction is the
genre of fiction that deals with crimes, their detection, criminals and their
motives. It begins with crime, follows by investigation; which leads to
judgment in the shape of the criminal’s arrest of death. (Genre, 1882) The
major difference between these two fictions is that, crime fiction is about
crimes and criminals, while sci-fi is related to science-based theory that may
or may not involve crimes.
The movies I have chosen are Project Almanac and Hitman;
Agent 47. Project Almanac is a sci-fi movie which involves a time-travel
machine, while Hitman; Agent 47 is fiction movie that related to criminal
activity. The core differences of these two movies would be the synopsis of
the movie. The main character of Project Almanac, David and his friends
discovered a time-travel machine owned by his father. They repaired it to use
it for their benefit but they soon realized that their actions caused several
irreversible changes. They must travel back to the past and prevent the
invention of the machine that will lead to destruction of the humanity. On the
contrary, Hitman is about an agent called 47, an international assassin. 47 is
created to be an unstoppable killing machine who is contracted by a covert
organization to assassinate high-profile targets on a global scale. He is
assigned to kill the leader of a crime syndicate, Le Clerq, who wishes to
unlock the secrets of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers. (Finch,2015)
He teamed up with the young woman, who is the creator of agent’s daughter
and successfully killed the leader.
Next, the main character of Project Almanac and Hitman; Agent
47 also possesses different characteristics. David Raskin in Project Almanac
is an adventurous and ambitious boy. He accidentally found a time-travel
machine which is owned by his father. He intended to repair the machine due
to his curiosity and adventurous attitude, and he succeeded. He even figured
out the sequences and formula to improve the machine. While in the Hitman;
Agent47, 47 is the main protagonist in this movie. Agent 47 is programmed to
be emotionless and he can face emergency calmly. Besides that, he is also
anti-social person. He has a pale complexion and he is muscular build. He is
strong enough to defeat a number of enemy with one gun.
The differences between Project almanac and Hitman; Agent 47
though, is the setting. Project almanac is sets in year 2015, and it is located in
Grant Park, Downtown, Chicago. Christina, David’s sister, helped him to
document the events. Clayton Country, Georgia USA is also a location of the
movie. David and his friends studied at Drew high school, Riverdale, Georgia.
3. While in Hitman; Agent 47, Berlin was the first target for Agent 47 to kill Dr.
Piotr Litvenko’s daughter, Katia Litvenko. Agent 47 failed to kill Katia in the
railway station, but then he found her in a hotel room with Smith. After
knowing that Litvenko is Katia’s father, Katia started to predict the country he
would live in according to his age, medical condition, hobbies and that his
spoken languages. In the end, they went to Garden by The Bay in Singapore
to look for Dr.Piotr Litvenko. Unfortunately, Dr.Litvenko got caught by the
Syndicate.
Lastly, both movies possessed different endings. In Project
almanac, after David and his friends uncovered blueprints for a mysterious
time-travel machine with limitless potential, David decided to travel back in
time to rectify the poor outcomes. (Israelite, 2015) It was a good ending
because David returned safely and successfully regardless of a partly
repaired machine. Although he had made many changes during the time-
travel events, he chose to give up on everything. He traveled back in time to
save his girlfriend who had disappeared from the timeline after seeing her
past self. He traveled back to his 7 year-old birthday celebration, in the
basement, David confronted his father, convincing him to destroy the
blueprints which could erase him from the timeline. Conversely, in the end of
Hitman; Agent 47 completed one of his tasks which is to kill the leader of
Syndicate, Le Clerq. It was a tragic ending because Dr.Piotr Litvenko gave up
his life to ensure Katia’s safety. Katia lost her long lost father whereas Agent
47 left with one mission unaccomplished. Overall, Project Almanac managed
to create a better world whereas in Hitman; Agent 47, many lives were
sacrificed.
To wrap things up, both movies contain fiction. It is important to
understand the genre of a movie, so one can get a better understanding on
the movie. In conclusion, Project Almanac and Hitman; Agent 47 differ in
storyline, main characters, settings and endings. I enjoyed watching both
movies because both have quite interesting plot and they are good fiction
movies. I have also learned the definition of science fiction and crime fiction
genre.
