3. What is SOCIAL
MEDIA anyway?!
Let’s take a step back and start with the basic question.
Simple enough right…
so·cial me·di·a
noun
websites and
applications that
enable users to
create and share
content or to
participate in social
networking.
4. OK! I know what SOCIAL
MEDIA is but WHO is using
social media and WHY?
CONNECTION BUILDER: Social Media is just what it
states, a means to be social. Based on the people you
currently interact with or the people you are trying to
connect with. The more connections and web presence
you have, the more you build better relationships and
connections.
EXPOSE YOURSELF: Put it out there for all to see.
Blogging, video uploads, postings, tweets, business
background, photos…the more mentions and
interactions, the better rankings you achieve with search
engines.
FEEL THE BUZZ: Break down the barrier and share your
new ideas, your products and services. Create more of
an awareness that provides influence when people are
ready to come to you.
Everyone from the local
candy shop to the
Fortune 100 giants are
on some form of social
media. They are all
looking for the same
thing. A way to create
EXCITEMENT about their
business, products or
themselves.
5. Aren’t we just going to
be lost out there?
What is the answer to this question for your business or
service.
“ONLY WE ______?”
Think what sets YOU apart from
everyone else, what makes you
unique, distinctive, why your
customers LOVE YOU!
Can your business create, nurture
and sustain being on social media?
What can be found on the first
page of a search and does it
represent you or your business?
How can you STAND OUT? Are you
ready to not just “phone it in?”
Can you make your positive or
negative feedback work for you?
6. I feel like it is easy to become OVERWHEMED!
Before jumping into many different platforms and
becoming overwhelmed, figure out where your
audience is looking for you and what your
message will be.
WHY: Do you know your goals and
objectives?
WHO: Think about your target market and
how you will engage them.
HOW: How will relationships and interactions
change? How can the success be measured?
7. It’s starting to making more sense.
Which platform should I start with?
Try and focus on selecting 2-3 sites instead of jumping into many at one time.
8. Platform, CHECK! Now I can just talk about ME!
Right?
WHAT’S THE 411?!
ROADMAP TO SUCCESS
FOUR: Educational, Informative, Trending,
Industry or Town Specific
ONE: Soft Sell. Promotional Share or Contest
ONE: Call To Action, Ask for the Sale, Fill out the
Form, Book the Appointment
Don’t just tell people why they need you. Inform
them. Help them. Show them. Ask them.
9. Wait, what am I saying?
Any content pointers for
me?
Keep it CASUAL: Social Media isn’t buttoned up ready for a
business meeting. It’s more relaxed and should be like a
conversation with a friend.
Short & Sweet: There are opportunities to be lengthy but
there is only a short time to capture your audience.
Lights, Camera, ACTION: Including video is a great
handshake to your following as well as a place to describe
and show an event. Also use words to ask your audience to
take a course of action.
Break out the Pronouns: I. ME. YOU. They go far making
connections. Write like you’re speaking with one person.
Don’t be a Rule Follower: Use an extra exclamation point,
dust off those CAPITALS, it makes it easier to convey tone
and EXCITEMENT!! (don’t forget emojis)
Social Media isn’t
like writing for
anything else.
It’s Fast. Fun.
Forward Thinking.
10. I know my message, I selected my platform, I
am being engaging but is it working?
No matter where you are putting your marketing dollar or time you still need to
focus on ROI. RETURN ON INVESTMENT.
Brand Awareness/Perception
Increased Site Traffic/Numbers of New Customers
Leads Generated
Conversion from Online to Actual Customer
Set in place a time and a way that you will be able to track the progress of your
efforts.
11. WOW! I know more than when we started but
now I need HELP! Who can I turn to?
Evolve your thinking. Evolve your media. We are always evolving and looking to give your business legs!
