Supervising Criminalist of the Physical Evidence Section, the PES encompasses the, Trace
Evidence, Firearms/Toolmarks, Arson/Explosives, and Controlled Substance section. It also
has jurisdiction of the Crime Scene and Clandestine Laboratory Response Units. The
Supervising Criminalist is responsible for the inventory control and chain of custody of all
physical evidence submitted to the laboratory; trains criminalists in areas of physical evidence
examination such as trace evidence analysis (including identification and comparison of hairs
and fibers, glass, paint, explosive residues), shoe track analysis, barefoot track analysis, tire
track analysis, firearms and ballistics, toolmarks, arson; supervises the serology/sexual assault
evidence unit; reviews reports produced by the various sections of the laboratory; reviews
purchase of reagents and equipment used by the physical evidence section of the laboratory.
Primary Crime Scene Response Investigating Criminalist - Primary criminalist on call for
crime scene investigation of homicide, officer involved shootings, arson, bombings, and
clandestine laboratories; train criminalists to become crime scene investigators in areas of
physical evidence collection, ballistics, bloodstain pattern analysis, and crime scene
reconstruction.
Criminalistics/Physical Evidence Examiner - Develop methods and procedures in
physical evidence analysis; analyze evidence submitted to the physical evidence section (trace
evidence consisting of hairs, fibers, glass, paint, explosive residues), firearms, ballistics,
toolmarks, shoe tracks, barefoot tracks, tire tracks, arson, blood identification, blood stain
pattern interpretation, latent print detection techniques and crime scene reconstruction; assist

Laboratory Training Officer - Responsibilities include: the development of training
manuals and guidelines for the Physical Evidence Section of the laboratory including the
development of an in-house training program for the Physical Evidence Section, training
criminalists in the various disciplines in the physical evidence section including crime scene
investigation, evaluation of training programs outside the laboratory, arrange and schedule
training of criminalist to attend training programs and provide training to law enforcement
