Virgin plastic use growing exponentially; plastic still going to landfill/incineration
Governments, consumers are demanding increasing circular use
Current sorting equipment cannot identify all plastic accurately for circular use
Problem: Growing use of virgin plastic & plastic waste
Solving Recycling via Product Digitization
Covert, ubiquitous, redundant codes for reliable/precise identification
Connect to product attributes, e.g., resin type, food/non-food grade, etc.
Enable accurate sorting for circularity in recycling facilities
Complement QR codes for consumer engagement, e.g., to drive collection
Unlock never-before seen data and insights
Solution: Digital watermarks & cloud-based intelligence

Current Publicly-Disclosed Global Activities
France chosen as first market in Europe to pilot Digimarc Recycle
• Building on successful semi-industrial trials, stakeholders have selected France as the European pilot
market for Digimarc Recycle.
• All operators in France invited to participate, marking an expansion in activities previously limited
to HolyGrail 2.0 members.
1 HolyGrail 2.0 is driven by AIM (European Brands Association) & powered by AEPW (Alliance to End Plastic Waste)
Canada’s Circular Plastics Taskforce (CPT) aims to implement Digimarc Recycle to sort flexibles
• CPT assessed the effectiveness of Digimarc Recycle in a pilot for sortation of flexible plastic packaging in Canada
and demonstrated a 99% accuracy rate consistently, irrespective of material, form factor, comingled waste
• CPT concluded that Digimarc technology works to sort films and flexibles accurately on a SKU-level
• CPT aims to implement the technology to enable the creation of new end-markets
Digital Watermarks Initiative HolyGrail 2.01
• Over 160 participants from the entire packaging value chain
• Goal: enable higher-quality recycling for packaging in the EU, to drive a truly circular economy
• Large scale semi-industrial assessments in Denmark, Germany proved Digimarc’s digital watermarks
can reliably identify plastic packaging in conditions of recycling streams with 99% accuracy
