2. OBJECTIVE
โข The main objective of the work is to minimize the machining
and work loading time of screwing and terminal handling.
โข Automatic screwing machine special purpose machine (SPM)
which screws the screw in the brass terminal. The component to
be screwed is placed on the fixture is automatically.
โข The ultimate goal is to speed up the process there by increasing
productivity through a proper utilization of man and machine.
โข The indexing system is added for reduction of the cycle time.
โข Stepper motor is installed for rotating the indexing system.
4. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
โข The problem is obtained from the screwing operation. The
component to be screwed is placed manually on the component
fixture.
โข The switch to start the screwing is turned on now the screw
operates on the component to the terminal
โข Safety is too low which leads to accident if the operator
accidently brings his hand inside the working area during
operation.
โข loading and unloading setup for screwing component is done
by manually

Step angle is calculated using the formula

Where,
โ = Step angle in degrees
m = Number of phase
๐๐ = Number of rotor teeth
Here we need 24 steps/revolution
So,
m = 3 phase

Substitute values in above formula we
got, step angle is 150
and 24 steps per
revolution
7. COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
โข Bowl feeder is used to feed individual component parts for
assembly on industrial production line.
โข Linear feeder conveys the components over short or relatively
long distance and also buffer storage.
โข Indexing system used for โpositioning a work piece at the
precise angle for a screwing operation.
โข Stepper motor is a electric motor that divides a full rotation into
number of equal steps.
โข Pneumatic screw driver is fixed in the holder.
โข Air pipe is used to supply the air to the pneumatic screw driver.
8. IMPROVEMENTSACHIEVED
โข Three stations added for indexing system
โข Reduces time consumption.
โข Screwing is more accurate than the manual.
โข Indexing system is added for reduction of the cycle time.
โข Process is to be automatized
โข No need of skillful labour.
โข To enhance safety, sensor is used which stop the machine to
avoid accident.
9. RESULT OF THIS PROJECT
โข Alteration design of automatic loading of terminal will over
come the difficulties of current screwing machine.
โข This concept saves a time and may leads to efficient working.
โข Normally the manual loading operation take 20 seconds for one
component. But automatic process can take only 8 seconds.
โข So the machine reduces the 12 seconds for automatic screwing
process.
โข The productivity of screwing component increased above 300
per hour.
10. CONCLUSION
โข Thus the automatic screwing machine is designed for this
project work. when the indexing system plays a major role in
the machine when using indexing system with separate station.
โข The supply of pneumatic system to achieve the automatic action
by the cylinder motion, where the FRL unit is placed to
maintain the pressure as 4 bar.
โข This work develops the automation and reduces the human
stress.
โข The Computer system is provided to control the multiple
program can be saved in the software on the data's can be
collected in the system.
