the fields of energy, industry and
infrastructure.
BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRICALS LIMTED
4. BHEL is India's largest engineering and manufacturing company of its kind.
BHEL was established in 1964 as Heavy Electricals Limited(India) was merged with BHEL in 1974.
It has been granted the prestigious Maharatna (big gem) status in 2013 by Govt. of India for its
outstanding performance.
BHEL's global references are spread across over 76 countries across all the six continents of the
world.
It is the 7th largest power equipment manufacturer in the world.
BHEL was adjudged the Best Power Equipment Manufacturing Organisation by CBIP.
It has a network of 17 manufacturing units to execute more than 150 projects at sites across India
and abroad.
5. Appreciation shield (June 2016) for successful commissioning of Salma Dam project in Afghanistan.
BHEL wins India Pride Award 2015-16 for Excellence in Heavy Industries.
In 2014, BHEL won ICAI National Award for Excellence in Cost Management for the ninth consecutive year.
BHEL received two awards in CIIITC Sustainability Awards 2012 from the President of India.
In the year 2011, it was ranked ninth most innovative company in the world by US business magazine Forbes.
The company won the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Award for Occupational Health & Safety 2011’ for significant achievements
in the field of Occupational Health & Safety.
It is also placed at 4th place in Forbes Asia's Fabulous 50 List of 2010.
BHEL wins MoU Excellence Award for the year 2006–07 for the highest growth rate in Market Capitalization.
8. • It is a mechanical device that extracts thermal
energy from pressurized steam, and convert into
rotary motion.
• It has almost completely replaced the
reciprocating piston steam engine.
• It is particularly suited to be used to drive an
electrical generator.
9. According to steam pressure drop
IMPULSE TURBINE
• Maximum steam velocity( Impulse) is created at the inlet of moving blade Which means high
Kinetic Energy .This energy is utilized for rotation of moving blade.
• More pressure drop in guide blade.
REACTION TURBINE
• Reaction is created due to action of change of direction of steam through bucket. This thrust or
reaction causes the driving force.
• More pressure drop in moving blade.
10.
11. • Steam at high pressure & temperature is made to pass through a row of fixed blade
mounted on stationary body in casing.
• There will be drop in pressure of the steam across the fixed blade resulting to very high
steam velocity at the exit of fixed blade.
• The high velocity steam then impinges on another row of rotating blades mounted on
the rotor shaft.
• The impingement of high velocity steam generates driving force on these rotating blades
which rotate the rotor.
• A set of fixed blades and rotating blades mounted on the rotor is called stage of turbine.
14. • TURBINE CASING MACHINING SECTION :
Equipped with large size Planer, Drilling, Horizontal Boring, CNC Horizontal and Vertical Boring machine.
• ROTOR MACHINING SECTION :
Equipped with large size machining tools like Turning Lathe, CNC Lathes, Horizontal Boring Machine,
Special purpose FIR TREE groove Milling Machine.
• ROTOR ASSEMBLY SECTION :
Equipped with Indicating Stand, Small Size Grinding, Milling, Drilling m/c, Press and other devices for
fitting Rotors and discs.
• TURBINE CASING ASSEMBLY SECTION :
Machined casings are assembled and hydraulically tested by Reciprocating Pumps at two times the
operating pressure.
• TEST STATION :
Equipped with condensers, Ejector, Oil Pumps, Oil containers etc. required for testing.
15.
16.
17. ALL TURBINES ARE ASSEMBLED BY USING FOLLOWING THREE MAIN STEPS:
• 1.PREPARATION OF MAIN COMPONENTS.
• 2.PREASSEMBLY/FALSE ASSEMBLY.
• 3.FINAL ASSEMBLY USING ROTOR.
18.
19. CONT….

25. • “An engineering degree is incomplete without practical knowledge and skills. An engineer is
expected to be a designer of dynamic world of innovation, for which practical experience matters
a lot.”
