Almost across the board, sales
by vehicle segment were down
in May. Only CUV, SUV, small
van, small and large pickup
segments saw a slight increase
over April. Despite being up over
April, nearly all vehicle segments
were down year-over-year.
CUVs were the only exception
due to nearly 9% growth, up
from 22.84%, since May 2012.

Light Truck Market Shares
Segment Shares of the Light Truck Market
May saw strong light truck sales,
comprising of nearly 51% of the
total segment. CUVs accounted
for roughly 50% of all light truck
purchases. Large pickups were
next in volume, with more than
170,000 units sold, which was
20,000-unit jump from April.
Vans saw a small uptick over the
previous month (10,000+ units),
but other segments remained
steady.

percentage of the total industry. The car segment, however, still holds 50% of the
market year-to-date, just down from roughly 52% in May 2012.

Hybrid vehicles stayed on pace with their growth trend, coming in at an additional
11,000 units over the same month in 2012. Electric vehicles have strengthened as well,
adding nearly 4,000 units into annual total sales for 2013. Diesels did not perform as
well in June 2013 as they did last year, but by a marginal 136 units.

Advanced Technology Vehicle Sales
Year-over-year hybrid sales have shot up to roughly 213,000 units – double that at this
point in 2012. EVs and diesels have also seen an increase over May 2012 with more
than 14,300 and 19,800 additional sales, respectively, for the year.
