under Pillar 1 (promote SSM)
Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives
has been implemented several projects.
For example, soil doctor program, land
suitability map.
where agricultural production must be
done in accordance with the land suitability
and sustainable soil management.
promotion of the King Rama 9 in Philosophy of
Sufficiency Economy to achieve sustainable land
use with 30% of rice, 30% of food crop and tree,
30% of Water resource, and 10% of resident.
Then they can survive in the COVID-19 pandemic.

under Pillar 2 (awareness raising)
The Thai government recognizes the importance
of soil in agriculture, food production and food
security.
Therefore, sustainable management of soil
resources is addressed into the goals of the
Agricultural Master Plan, under the 20-year
National Strategy Plan of Thailand.
The plan has various mechanisms to promote a
sustainable use of soil, emphasizing the use of
knowledge, innovation and technology to manage
the agricultural land appropriately.

2019 ASP meeting endorsed the work plan of CESRA
2020 Established director of CESRA,
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Charlie Nawanugraha
2020 Set up CESRA coordination center at LDD HQ,
and CESRA training center at Pak Chong campus
2020 FAO RAP supported LDD to strengthening
CESRA operation strategy and SEALNET
network, this project will provide operation
strategy and action plan to implement, and also
Thai Soil Laboratory Network.

Strengthening CESRA network for sustainable

LDD staffs created country level
mapping, such as SOC map, soil
salinity map, soil erosion map and
land degradation map, etc.
This operation is aiming to
compile these maps into a global
perspectives and to make a plan
for soil/land management in more
appropriate and accurate at
national level.

Land Development Department in cooperation with GLOSOLAN
prepared a VDO for demonstrating organic carbon analysis using
Walkley and Black Titration Method. This VDO will be disseminated
through GLOSOLAN website.
And also Thailand has already established
the Thai Soil Laboratory Network
(TSLAN)

Implement the Land Degradation Assessment by LDN
concept and link it with SSM protocol for soil carbon
monitoring. We would like to propose for connecting ASP
network with the LDN network under the UNCCD, where
China is the regional focal point.
Way forward: Thailand main activities in 2021:
Implement the SSM protocol to study and monitor sustainable
management of best practices on soil resources under GSP
guidance. We would like to encourage member countries under
ASP join in implementing the project in their country.
Promoting Global Soil Doctor program and starting to
implement the program in Mekong countries with the financial
support from Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund, China.

Progress with the preparation of the Analytical Manual of
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Exchangeable
acidity (Aluminium and Hydrogen ion),
Prof. Dr. Somsak Maneepong representative of Thailand
as the regional leader in preparation of the manual.
Way forward: Thailand main activities in 2021:
In addition, Thailand will
provide PT samples for
SEALNET with support of
the Land Development
Department and FAO RAP.
