This document provides an overview and agenda for an Ordnance Survey open data masterclass on water themes and flooding. The masterclass will demonstrate simple analysis and visualization of flooding data from OS, the Environment Agency, and other sources using free and open GIS tools. Attendees will learn basic GIS skills and find information on downloading and styling open data in their booklet and from instructor support during the session. The materials are aimed to be a flexible learning experience and provide resources for continued learning beyond the masterclass.

10. OTHER INFORMATION TO NOTE
Page 20:
There was an error with the pre-prepared project file
“TewkesburyCaseStudy_Polygons.qgis” at this stage, which may have resulted in you
getting an error when applying the code to update the postcodes.
This has now been amended and if you wish to download the amended data, within
folder ‘LandReg&CodePoint’, please do so here: http://ow.ly/X7iSG
Page 21:
Copy and paste the code to update the postcode from the text file
“VoronoiPolygon_FieldCalculatorCode” supplied in the main folder and not the version in
the pdf booklet as it won’t work.
Other:
The pdf version of the booklet within your folder may contain additional information that
is not included in the printed version you were supplied with:
• List of suggested resources for the links of where to find good sources of Open Data
(page 33 of pdf booklet)
• Additional tutorial on QGIS 3D Capability using OS Terrain 50 and other visualisations
of water-related data in QGIS (page 31,32 of pdf booklet)
The class is based around the 2007 Tewkesbury floods, demonstrating how to use OS OpenData to map flood risk areas, calculate housing cost damages and display the ability of Open sources in real life situations. It is designed to teach you about the various open products, what is available to you and how to use a free GIS system without needing any experience.
The booklet provided along with the memory sticks have step by step instructions & images on exactly how to use the tools and data. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to it or have years of GIS experience, there will be something new for everyone.
Everything used in the class is open from the data to the tools used. OS, EA, DEFRA, Land Registry, BGS, Natural England all have a variety of open source products available for us to demonstrate.
Loads of helpers, just raise your hand

At various stages in the document, if you get stuck or simply skip to the next step there are shapefiles that can be loaded in. These have QMLs attached to them so are loaded already styled.
You can choose to follow the class as much or as little as you wish. Feel free to go straight to the third party project folder, the 3D examples or even amalgamate your own data in with what is provided. Those helping you will have plenty of experience, so feel free to share your ideas if you want.
