The service design is based on a gold standard
approach for Occupational Health Physiotherapy
service provision. Key principles of the service are:
• Preventative approach
• Immediate access to services
• Bespoke services, tailoring to the needs of the employee
This preventative and immediate approach to physiotherapy
has helped support employees to stay in work and achieve a
quicker return to work for employees suffering from MSDs.

Introduction
Staffordshire County Council (SCC) had a
significant problem with absence and people on
restrictions due to Musculoskeletal Disorders
(MSD’s). ctchealthcare set up a new sickness
absence management service in February 2012
utilising a ‘four tiered’ model to provide immediate

The successful delivery of ctchealthcare’s functional
restoration program is underpinned by the council now
having no recorded long term absenteeism due to MSD
injury. This is a key contributor to the
cost saving.
