The Characters
There are 3 main characters within the opening sequence, these are-
■ Bart, played by BartekTrojanowski
■ Justin, played by Rory Baird
■ Mark, played by MarkTailby
Representations of the social groups within
the film- Bart
The typical character that Bartek is meant to be portraying is a 16 year old, straight, white male, who has been
living in a low E/D class household for most of his life. He has been exposed to drugs for the majority of his life as
he has witnessed family taking them and his friends who introduced him to the drug scene. Bart has had an
overall tough upbringing and is now looking for a way to fund his drug habit by selling drugs for big names in the
industry.
Bart acts very big, tough and streetwise, however since he has gotten in touch with Justin he has been a little on
edge and is very anxious about getting into selling, however he feels as if this is the only option he has left. Bart’s
role in the film is to help emphasise how dangerous and scary the drug business is and how much teenagers
these days are exposed to drugs around them. However the film does turn into a chase where he and his dealer
are being hunted down by police and private investigators to help make an end to the money loving cycle of
drugs Bart eventually realises that this isn’t the life he wants to live anymore.
Bart is often seen walking around with a gang or at night as this is when he feels most confident and he almost
looks up to Justin as he has now made a life for himself within the drug industry.
His costume is a black tracksuit as this is the stereotypical young teenage boy look and you often see a lot of
people that hang out on the streets wear this as it can appear intimidating. He doesn't have any significant key
props but he is often seen with a cigarette in his hand and listening to music.
Representations of the social groups within
the film- Justin
Rory is portraying a 18/20 year old straight, white male who has always lived in a low E/D class
but is now living a in a C class house and has really made a living for himself.A typical
representation of a well know drug dealer is a nice car, lots of possessions and very self and
money obsessed. Justin is very ruthless and always denominates the screen with his
authoritative presence.
Justin represents the ‘bad guy’ as he keeps pushing Bart into the wrong crowd and he also
doesn't understand that hat he is doing is ruining lives. He is very scary and intimidating
however we do slightly admire him for turning his life around.
His props include his red Ford Fiesta and his Nokia phone which he gives to his drug distributers
to use to call him if they have a problem. This is a key prop as it is a stereotypical ‘drug dealer’
phone and his drugs within the back pack are also a key prop for ensuring the audience are not
confused n what he is doing. Justin’s costume is similar to Bart’s except he is slightly more
formal as he likes to look ‘street wise’ however he is older, more mature and has more money
than Bart so he is wearing an expensive one.
Representations of the social groups within
the film- Mark
Mark is a 35 year old, straight, B class male who has been working in he private investigation
police force for 15 tears. He has a wife and children and has been investigating the drug world
in England for 8 years now. He found Justin on Facebook as he heard some rumours from
criminals that he was supplying classA drugs to the public and he has been following him
around and messaging him ever since.
The purpose of Mark is to make the genre more identifiable. We decided to add Justin in the
opening sequence as our first draft looked more like a gritty realism so the idea of a private
investigator watching in on the deal made the genre more identifiable. His role within the film
is to capture the criminals and try to shut down as many drug businesses as he possibly can.
Mark is very formal and smart looking, he is wearing a suit and carries a police ID with him at all
times, he often observes criminals from his black car and is under cover in the opening
sequence. This costume will conform to the crime genre as it is comonnly used for similar
characters e.g. James Bond.
