6. Masthead - The masthead is essentially a one-page informational overview of a publication and everyone
involved in its creation. The masthead lists editorial staff, publisher, subscription details, and contact
information. Members of the advisory board, readers, interns, proof readers, and designers are also often
listed. Some mastheads will include other information, such as granting institutions that help fund the
publication or details on how to submit work. Some will even have a brief explanation of the publication’s
title or a mission statement.
Date Line – Month and year of publication, often with the price. Note that a monthly magazine usually hits
the news-stands the month before the cover
Anchorage - The text that accompanies the photograph is there to draw in the reader, the writing will not
consist of a lot of words, but it links the photo to some content inside, for example, my 3rd photo shows a
couple of girls what look to be baking, the anchorage gives a short rundown on the photo and what it is
showing, but then it gives you a page address so you can read the full story for it.
The element of a page that we will talk about today has many names. So many names for one single
element which plays a big role in providing information and grabbing readers attention.
Tagline - A tagline is a small amount of text which serves to clarify a thought for, or designed with a form of,
dramatic effect.
Short, sharp description of the title's main marketing point or perhaps setting out its editorial philosophy,
such as FHM's 'funny, sexy, useful'
