95. Record keeping
• Total eggs per month
• Average eggs/bird/month
• Birds culled
• Birds died
96. Average egg production/bird 3ways
• Average egg production/bird/month (monthly average)
• Average egg production/bird on hen day basis (hen-day average)
• Average egg production/bird on hen housed basis (hen-day average)
97. Determining the Monthly Average
• Average number of hens for the month = (Total Number of birds from the beginning of
the month) + Total Number of birds at the end of the month) / 2
• Monthly average production of eggs per hen = total number of eggs laid during the
month/ average number of hens for the month
• Example: August 1, 2016= 5000 hens
August 31, 2016 = 4600 hens
Total number of eggs produced = 96,000
Find out the ave. egg production/hen/month?
98. Determining the Monthly Average
A. Average number of hens for the month = (Total Number of birds from the beginning
of the month) + Total Number of birds at the end of the month) / 2
• = 5000+4600/2 = 4800
B. Average production of eggs per hen/month = total number of eggs laid during the
month/ average number of hens for the month
=96000/4800 = 20 eggs/hen/month
• Example: August 1, 2016= 5000 hens
August 31, 2016 = 4600 hens
Total number of eggs produced = 96,000
Find out the ave. egg production/hen/month?
99. Hen Day Average
• Hen day average is usually determined on the monthly basis
• A. Total no. hen day = total no. birds X No. of days in month
• B. Determine loss days during the month due to culling or mortality of birds
• C. Percent of egg production during the month =total no. eggs laid / actual
no. hen days x 100
• Example: Feb 2008= 3000 hens
• If on 7th, 14th 20th and 24th of February 90, 120, 105 and 60 birds were culled,
respectively
Total number of eggs produced = 60,000
Calculate the ave. egg production/bird on a monthly basis and hen-
day basis?
Determine the percentage of egg production on the farm
100. Hen Day Average
• Hen day average is usually determined on the monthly basis
• A. Total no. hen days = total no. birds X No. of days in month
• =3000 X 28 days (February) = 84,000 days
• B. Determine loss days during the month due to culling or mortality of birds
• =Loss of Hen days = (28-7) X 90 + (28-14) X 120 + (28-20) X 105 + (28-24) X 60
• = 21+90+14+120+8X105+4X60= 4,650 days
• 1. Actual no. of hen days = 84, 000- 4,650 = 79,350
• No of hens at the end of the month = 3,000 – (90+120+105+60) = 2,625
• Therefore: ave no. of birds/month = 3,000+2625/2
• = 5,625/2 = 2,812.5 or 2,813
101. Hen Day Average
• Ave egg production/bird on monthly basis = 60,000 eggs/2813 hens = 21.33
eggs
• 2. Ave. no. of birds/month = (on hen-day basis)
• = actual no. of hen days/no. of days in the month
• =79350/28=2834
• 3. Ave. egg production per bird = 60,000/2834 = 21.17
• Percent of egg production in month = 60,000/79,350=0.7561 or 75.6%
102. Hen Housed Average
• Usually obtained by dividing the total number of eggs produced during a
given period by the number of birds in the flock at the beginning of the
period.
• Obtained in a yearly basis
• =Tot. no. of eggs laid during last year/ no. of birds in flock at the beginning
of the year
• Example: April 1, 2015 =2000 birds, April 8 = culled 100 birds, April 15 =
sold 160 birds & April 21 = 190 birds died & April 28= culled 240 birds
• Total egg production during the month = 40,000
• Calculate the ave. egg production on hen housed basis?
103. Hen Housed Average
• 1. Determining egg production on a monthly basis:
• No. of birds for the month in the beginning = 2000
• No. of birds at the end of the month = 2000-(100+160+190+240)= 1310
• Ave. no. of birds for the month (2000+1310)/2 = 1655
• So, ave. egg production/bird/month (monthly basis)
• =40,000/1655=24.1692 eggs
104. Hen Housed Average
• 2. Determining egg production on hen day basis:
• No. of hen days= 2000 X 30 days = 60, 000
• Loss hen-day= (22 x 100) + (15 X 160) + (9 X 190) + (2 X 240) = 6790
• Therefore, actual no of hen-days = 60,000-6,790=53,210
• Ave. no. of birds for the month on hen day basis
• = 40,000/1774 = 22.54 or 23 eggs
• Percent egg production = 40,000/53,210X100 = 75.1 %
• 3. total egg production on hen-housed basis =
• = 40,000/2,000 = 20 eggs
