September 2008 – September 2011
Self Employed
Contracted to BAE Systems in (Scotstoun, Govan and Portsmouth ship yards)
Working on the Test and Commissioning side of ship building on various projects including type 45
destroyers for the Royal Navy, and the commercial offshore patrol vessels contract for the Trinidad
and Tobago coast guard. This included being part of a professional team and which I was able to fit in
to and show that I could work on my initiative if the opportunities presented themselves.
Setting to work various systems including fuel, lube oil, fresh water, and tank inspections
Load Testing equipment such as anchors, lifting plates, tie down points, boat rescue davits main
cranes.
Working within the Test and Commissioning department I encountered all aspects of administration
and monitoring systems databases certificates and acceptance documentation for the MOD and
customers I also had to demonstrate to the customer and Lloyds register certain events and tests.
I had a key role as part of the sea trial teams that took the ship out for testing of propulsion system
and combat trials

I served my apprenticeship with the company from 2000-2004 as a mechanical engineer. I went to day
release at Langside College to attain my HNC in mechanical engineering. I was mainly involved in the oil
and gas sector within the company although I had been given experience in the other departments this
gave me a knowledge of what role each department played in producing a product that was engineered
to the high standards that was required by the customer.
