2. IMPRESSIONS OFTHE CENTURION
LUKE 7:1-10
His love for his servant (vv. 2-3)
– Slaves were not highly regarded in society (Luke 17:7-8).
– Such was not the case with this particular servant.
–The only case in Scripture where someone sent to Jesus to
heal a servant.
3. IMPRESSIONS OFTHE CENTURION
LUKE 7:1-10
His humility.
–The Jews said he was worthy (v.4), but he said he was not
(vv.6-7).
–This was a man of status; a centurion in the roman army.
– It is unusual to find humility and compassion on the part of
those with societal status.
4. IMPRESSIONS OFTHE CENTURION
LUKE 7:1-10
•His faith (this is what impressed Jesus v.9).
– Notice by way of comparison:
Mary and Martha (John 11: 21, 32).
The Nobleman’s son (John 4:46-50).
–The centurion understood who Jesus was and the concept
of His authority (vv.7-8).
5. IMPRESSIONS OFTHE NAZARENES
MARK 6:1-6
•These had every advantage to believe over the centurion.
–They were Jews (Rom. 3:1-2).
–They watched Jesus grow up (Luke 2:45-47, 52).
The Nazarenes should have saw in Jesus what John saw in
Jesus (Matt. 3:13-14; John 1:33).
6. IMPRESSIONS OFTHE NAZARENES
MARK 6:1-6
•The greater the advantage we have the greater the
responsibility that goes with it (Luke 12:41-48).
–The people of Nazareth had more than the centurion; they
were the advantaged one’s.
–When you are the advantaged ones more is expected and
required of you.
7. MAKINGAPPLICATION
•We have so many material advantages today, yet we have
done so little to get the gospel to a lost world (I wonder if
Jesus would marvel at that?).
• We have so many advantages today in regards to knowing
God’s will; we have Bibles, we are educated, we can read (I
wonder if Jesus would marvel at how little knowledge we
have?).
•We have so many advantages today when it comes to
worshipping God, yet we give up so many opportunities to
assemble (I wonder if Jesus would marvel at that?).
