2. Great historic moment Union of Transylvania with
Romania on December 1, 1918, was immortalized by one
photographer, Samoilă Mârza, a farmer from the village
Galtiu, Alba, came "Photography Union" by chance at
the age of 32 years. In the last years of his life, Samoilă
Mârza lived in poverty, was forced at times to sell even
clichés that immortalized historic events of major
importance. Unfortunately, only historians seems that
people remember now Samoilă Mârza, his grave was
forgotten and remained untidy cemetery Maier in Alba
Iulia, and now while representatives of the company that
manages the graves they summoned followers
photographer they will exhume his remains for non-
payment of concession fees, these actions were stopped
only after vigorous intervention of several historians.
3. Samoilă Mârza was born on September 18, 1886 at
Galtiu commune Sântimbru, Alba, in a peasant family.
His mother, Anne, died when Samoilă was in the early
years, and his father, Stephen, remarried then Raveca, a
woman from the same village, with whom he had six
children, with four from his first marriage.
Samoilă followed six primary classes "School Romanian
religious people united" in his native village, then
attended high school in Alba Iulia.
Between 1909 and 1911, apprenticed with photographer
Iainek Sibiu, where he learned the secrets of the craft.
He bought then a camera, with the income from the sale
of the two oxen in the family household.
4. In 1914 after World War I, he was recruited Austro-Hungarian
army and sent to the front in Galicia come up to Riga.
In 1916, after Romania entered the war, you were sent to the
Italian front, where he was employed in surveying and
photography military service.
At the end of the war, Samoilă Mârza go from Trieste to Vienna,
following the withdrawal of Romanian troops organized by the
Romanian National Central Council.
On November 14, 1918, done in Vienna, three photographic
clichés immortalized sanctification first tricolor flag of the
Romanian National Military Council, in the presence of
General Boeriu, Iuliu Maniu and other Romanian military.

having passed through a path of about 11 kilometers.
Unusual that Samoilă Mârza not have Credentials (entry
permit) and, as such, was not allowed access to Union Hall for
ceremonies being hired a German photographer named Bach
who, for reasons unknown, did not attend the meeting .
5. Samoilă Mârza was made just five shots with images from the Grand
National Assembly, two stands official who was reading the
Unification Act before the Great National Council and of the people,
by dr. Aurel Vlad and Greek Catholic Bishop Iuliu Hossu, three
snapshots are captured by the crowds attending the historic event,
Plateau Romans. Of course, given the gloomy weather, photos
required a long exposure time, in addition, weight equipment did not
allow the artist photographer to deplasese easily.
In 1919, Samoilă Mârza published photos to the album "The Great
Assembly of Alba Iulia in the faces", which reviewed and newspaper
"Alba Iulia", the number of 10 March.
The album was proud to Romanian delegation who attended the
Versailles Peace Conference, few copies were sent and Prime Minister
Ion Bratianu, president Iuliu Maniu Governing Council and other
personalities of the moment. One has arrived at King Ferdinand I,
who appreciated the realization Marza, who sent a congratulatory
letter, inviting him to also become a supplier of the Royal House. Also
recipient of the album was the French general Henri Mathias

6. In turn, Nicolae Iorga wrote on April 27, 1919, in his memoirs: "I bring in
Transylvania an admirable album of photographer Samoilă Mârza depicting
past events".
Weather writings refer to many close friends of the photographer with great
personalities such as Maniu, Octavian Goga, Aurel Vlad, and Valer Pop.
From the position of the supplier of the Royal House, Samoilă Mârza
immortalized in the 1919 visit of King Ferdinand in Alba Iulia, Abrud and
Câmpeni, and October 22, 1922, photographed, all in Alba Iulia, the crowning of
King Ferdinand and Queen Maria. On this occasion, he finds that the works
were not completed Coronation Cathedral, and in 1924, after serious struggles,
after an audience to Prime Minister Ion Bratianu, managed to raise funds to
continue painting the cathedral, a work that had been started by painter Costin
Petrescu and abandoned immediately after the coronation.

captured images of the celebration of 10 years of manifestations Union, when

Mârza always lived near poverty, evidenced by the fact that for nearly 60 years
used the same old camera, which immortalized the events of December 1, 1918.
7. For this reason, he was forced to sell some clichés from Union to capitalize
special glass that were made. What is most sad for generations, is that many
clichés did not reach the collectors, photographers or museums, but were
destroyed and the bottle was used to manufacture mirrors very popular at
that time.
In 1966, his last album "The Great Assembly of Alba Iulia faces" has given
former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, on the occasion of his visit to Alba Iulia.
In 1967, director of the National Union Museum in Alba Iulia, prof. Dr.
Gheorghe Anghel, managed to acquire from Samoilă Mârza device and
clichés about Great Union.
The money raised from the museum, he bought a camera performance, with
whom he wanted to achieve more photos at the semi Union, in 1968, he
worked at achieving an album similar to 1918, which intended to give
officials time.
Unfortunately, Samoilă Mârza is shot down by an incurable disease rampant,
fading into on 19 December 1967. His body was buried at the cemetery dead
Maier in Alba Iulia.
In 2003, the local government erected a monument near his tomb, on 23
November the same year, his native village, Galtiu was unveiled a bust made
by sculptor Narcis Dumitru Bortes and launched the book "Samoilă Mârza -
1886- 1967 - Union of Transylvania with Romania photographer ".
