6. My Target Audience
Research
For my target audience research
I have chosen to do a
questionnaire, for people who
are familiar and also aren't
familiar with the genre of social
realism. I printed out 13 of my
questionnaires and handed
them out. My questionnaires are
targeted at the age range of
16-17 as these age groups are
most likely to watch more films
and be more interested in social
realism films.

7. Male or Female?
What Gender Are You?
7
To achieve my research, I
have asked 6 males and 7 7
females. I tried to make the
gender equal so I can see
roughly which results I would 6
Series1
gather and expect. This would
also give my test a fair result. 6
5
Male Female

8. Ages
How old are you?
To gain more research I asked 8
two certain age groups,16 and
17 year olds of which went to 6
sixth form. The reason why I
Students
chose these age groups is 4
because they aren't too young Series1
or too old and they could ether 2
already be familiar with the
genre of social realism or could 0
16 years old 17 years old
totally not know anything about Age
it.

9. Are you familiar with the genre?
Are you Familiar with the genre?
7
For this question I got a fair
equal answer. As seven 5
students said yes and seven
students said no. The reason
students
why I asked this question was
4
Series1
because I needed to see what
audience I was aiming at and 2
who I asked.

10. What's your Favourite?
I asked students what their Whats your favourite film genre?
favourite film genre was to see 7
what the students preferred. From
5
my results we can see a high
number of seven preferred
Students
4
‘Comedy’ films and the lowest Series
result shows 3, which was ‘Social 2
Realism’. The results show me that
not a lot of people are that 0
Comedy Action Horror Scial Realism
interested in social realism, but Genre
maybe this is because they are not
familiar with the genre?

11. Is there enough British
I asked my audience if they 9
Is there eanough British films?
thought there was enough
British films as I wanted to
see there personal opinions. 7
In my own opinion I
Students
personally do not think there 5
Series1
is enough British films as
everybody prefers 2
Hollywood/American movies.
My results show that most
students agreed with my 0
Yes No
opinion.

12. Have you seen these
For this question I named out 15
Which films have you seen?
five different ‘well known’ social

Students
which film was most popular 8

any of these films, without even 0
realising they were social

13. What issues do you
Most people preferred 7
What issue do you prefer?
‘Alcoholism’ or ‘Teenage
Pregnancy’ film issues. I 5
personally think these were the
Students
most popular choices as they 4
Series1
can relate to my audiences in 2
some sort of way. I asked my
audience this question as I 0
Child Neglect Depression Substance Abuse
wanted some of their opinions in Issues
which they would prefer so I had
a better idea of what the public
are willing to watch.

14. In a film setting out to represent and explore child neglect /
alcoholism/ substance abuse/ depression/ teenage pregnancy/
adultery what do you think are important things for the
filmmaker to pay attention to?
For this question I had a multiple of different answers…
-Issues
-People who might be ejected
-Showing the neglected child as the main person
-The emotions, the settings of the characters behind the film
-Reality
-Locations
-The real life and how it effects society
-Mise-en-scene

15. The last question really helped me decide of what issue i will
focus on. From the results i have gathered up information and
have looked up the themes and issues of what my audience
would prefer to watch.
The results from my questionnaire have helped me understand
more about what my audience would enjoy to watch and how
many people actually had a full understanding of what ‘Social
Realism’ is.

17. Conclusion
In conclusion, my results show that a large number of
my audience was not familiar with the genre of social
realism films and didn’t have a immense understanding
of what it actually meant. However, from the results of
my questionnaires it shows that most of my audience
was familiar with social realism films as they have
watched them, not knowing they were related to the
social realism genre.
In my own opinion I think social realism films should be
more noticed by the public, as they do not get a lot of
attention. Also, the reason why I think social realism
films are so interesting is because they can relate to us
and you never know what is going to happen. They are
related to real life social issues.
