5. Be going to
Form: I am going to play tennis tomorrow .
They aren’t going to watch the game tonight.
Are you going to visit me in London?
Use: We use “Be going to” for:
• Future plans and intentions.
Peter is going to study telecom engineeering.
What are you going to do next weekend?

6. • Predictions based on present evidence.
Look at the clouds! It’s going to rain.
Slow down! We’re going to have an accident!
• Sometimes there’s little difference between
will and be going to for predictions. Compare:
The conference starts in 10 minutes. We are going
to be late. (=I can see that we cannot be at the
conference in 10 minutes)
We need to hurry up. We’ll be late for the
conference. (=I think we will be late)

Form:
We’re flying to New York tomorrow.
Are you coming to the concert tonight?
Use:
• Arrangements (plans) that have been made.
They are getting married next year.
We’re meeting at Gina’s tonight.

Use:
• Timetabled events.
The exams start next week.
• Future time clauses (when, as soon as, until,
etc)

9. Future Perfect Simple
Form:
In one year I will have saved enough for a new car.
Will he have graduated in two years?
They won’t have arrived in London by Tuesday.
Use:
• Actions that will be completed or are expected to
be completed at a certain time in the future.
I will have finished my project by this time tomorrow.
Next month we will have been married for 20 years.

10. FUTURE PERFECT: SIGNAL WORDS.
