Howard Gardner introduced the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983, proposing that there are nine distinct types of intelligence rather than a single general intelligence. The nine intelligences are: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, and existential. Gardner's theory challenged the traditional view that intelligence is a single general ability and encompasses verbal/linguistic and logical/mathematical abilities.
