2. Medium shot
This is a medium shot. It
shows the key character
of the scene from a short
distance and the camera
does not move. The
main idea of such a shot
is to represent what is
most important as it is
far enough from the
subject to have an object
in the scene with them.
3. Trombone
Here is a trombone shot. It is
used to emphasize dramatic
and shocking events by
zooming slightly into the main
character’s face and stretching
everything behind them
backwards. This creates the
effect of an endlessness to
what they are going through
and is used to keep the
audience in suspense.
4. Arc
An arc shot is used to circle
the subject in order to make
a boring part of the movie
less boring. It shows
everything that is going on
around the subject yet it
continues to focus on the
actual character.
5. Steadicam
A steadicam involves a
character being followed by
the cameraman with a steady
system which prevents
shakiness. These shots are
used when a track for the
camera would either have to
be too long or could not fit
into the scene without being
in the shot.
6. Close up
A close up features little
more than the
character’s head and
shoulders. It is used to
symbolize isolation and
the character’s
emotions. The camera
does not move in this
type of shot and either
zooms into another shot
or just switches to it.
