1. Be Vocal!
Praising Jesus and talking to Him throughout your
day is one of the secrets to having faith. When you’re
continually acknowledging the Lord, you’re aware
of His presence and of His being in control of the
situation, which makes it easier to leave matters in His
hands and trust that He’s taking care of things.
It also makes it easier to remember to ask Him about
little things you encounter, because you’ve already
been including Him in whatever you’re doing, and you
know He’s right there and ready to answer whatever
question you may have.
It’s also beneficial to say our praises or prayers
out loud. Our words have an effect. James 3:6
says that our words are able to direct the whole
course of our life. King David was a big proponent of
verbalizing praise and prayer to God. He wrote, “My
mouth will speak in praise of the Lord” (Psalm 145:21
NIV), and “My tongue will speak of your righteousness
and of your praises all day long” (Psalm 35:28 NIV).
One reason King David spoke his praises and
prayers was because he knew it would benefit
and encourage those who heard him. He wrote, “I
proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do
not seal my lips, as you know, O Lord. I do not hide
your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your
faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love
and your truth from the great assembly” (Psalm 40:9–
10 NIV).
And not only is verbalizing our love for
and dependence on Jesus uplifting for
others, but it reminds us of His constant
presence, and helps us to be more in
tune with Him. It gives Jesus all
the glory, and reminds us of
how very much we need
Him. Those are
pretty good
reasons for
verbalizing
our praises
and prayers!
