Frequently Asked Questions
13. What is the selection process for the program?
It is important that you have an email address and access to a computer as all our applications are processed
on the Aurizon Internet site. Once you have lodged your application, we will confirm your application has been
received via email. You may be invited to participate in a number of assessments. Literacy & numeracy testing
and psychometric testing forms a compulsory element for all apprenticeships & trainees. Following completion
of testing, you may be invited for a Panel Interview. For candidates successful at interview, background checks
and pre-employment medicals including drug and alcohol tests complete the process.
What is the Psychometric testing?
To successfully undertake an apprenticeship, it is important that a person has the necessary skills and abilities
for the role. In selecting people to undertake apprenticeships within Aurizon, we evaluate a person’s skills and
abilities to ensure that they have the best chance of success, which benefits the individuals themselves and the
organisation. In order to give themselves the best chance at performing well on the assessments, candidates
should develop their skills as best as they can through practice and training. This can be done at school, other
learning environments, and through trying out new activities.
Where are the tests held?
Generally the testing is held in key regional locations across Australia. Some testing may be internet based
which can be done from a home computer. We try to assure that you will need to do minimal travelling to sit
the test but in some instances this may not be possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
14. What if I am not available to attend a testing session or interview?
We try to accommodate with testing and interview dates due to the sheer volume of applicants it is
difficult to meet all requests for an alternate date. However, should there be an issue we will endeavour
to do our best to accommodate your needs. If we can’t, you may need to make yourself available for the
time specified.
When will I start?
Dates will be provided during the recruitment process.
What if I am unsuccessful? Can I reapply for the next intake?
Yes, we would welcome your application. Due to the large numbers of applicants each year and limited
number of positions available, not all applicants will be successful through the process.
Does Aurizon pay the relocation costs of new Apprentices?
No, it is your responsibility to relocate to the area near the city/town/depot you applied for.
