Advice
Advice for current students:
o
The recession has changed the “traditional” employment rules. If one wants to be successful today,
they need to look for opportunities where no one else is. To accomplish this, a job seeker needs to make
things happen by taking a non-traditional route and enlisting the help of a mentor and/or network. This
could mean starting your own business, conducting informational interviews, job shadowing, or
volunteering. Don’t give up!
Skills learned at Wilkes that helped prepare me for my professional career:
o
Time management, the ability to work under pressure, and ow to communicate effectively with a wide
audience.
The single most important quality for a graduate in your field to possess upon graduation:
o
The ability to have an open mind and learn / adapt on the job, while applying the knowledge gained
from class. A book or lecture will not teach us everything about life and in choosing a career.
