2. Yalta Conference
Ukraine, February 1945: The big three were Stalin, Roosevelt and
Churchill, and Germany was losing the European war so they decided to meet
at Yalta, despite the differences they agreed in some important points:
• Stalin agreed that when Germany had surrendered, to enter the war against
Japan.
• They split Germany in four zones, American, French, British and Soviet,
and also Berlin, that it was in the Soviet zone, in other four zones.
• Into hunt down and punish war criminals who were responsible of
genocide.
• To allow free elections in Eastern Europe.
• To join the United Nations Organization, in order to spread peace after
war.
• To be as “a Soviet sphere of influence”, so as to help the Soviet union who
suffered in a huge way in war.
3. Potsdam Conference
Berlin, July 1945: Germany had been
defeated, Roosevelt had died and
Churchill had lost the 1945 election.
In this conference there were not
agreements due to the fact there were
no trust between Stalin and Truman.
5. Yalta Conference Potsdam Conference
Germany to be split into four zones. Arguments about the details of the
boundaries between the zones.
Germany will pay reparations. Disagreements about the amount of
reparations Russia wanted to take. It
was agreed that Russia could take
whatever it wanted from the Soviet
zone, and 10 per cent of the industrial
equipment of the western zones, but
Britain and the US thought this was
too much.
A government of 'national unity' to be
set up in Poland, comprising both
communists and non-communists.
Truman was angry because Stalin had
arrested the non-communist leaders of
Poland.
6. Free elections in the countries of
eastern Europe. This part of the
agreement was called the Declaration
of Liberated Europe.
America and Britain were alarmed
because communists were coming to
power in the countries of Eastern
Europe.
Russia would help against Japan when
Germany was defeated.
Truman dropped the atomic bomb so
that Japan would surrender before
Russian troops could go into Japan.
America had the bomb in July 1945,
but Truman did not tell Stalin about it.
When he saw how he had been
tricked, Stalin was furious.
7. 20th Century event
Gaza strip Conflict
The region's central location between different
civilizations meant massive invasions and
migrations throughout history. Different groups
claim ownership over the land through their
historic association. One such group, a
descendant of an ancient native tribe, rules
Israel. Another descendant of an ancient tribe
rules "Palestine". Both sides want more land,
citing history and keep fighting.
8. UN Conference
1 September, 2015: A new report published by the United Nations Conference
on Trade and Development on assistance to the Palestinian people warns that
the Gaza Strip could become “uninhabitable” by 2020 if current economic
trends persist. In addition to eight years of economic blockade, over the past six
years, Gaza has endured three military operations that have shattered its ability
to export and produce for the domestic market, ravaged its already debilitated
infrastructure, and left no time for reconstruction and economic recovery.
9. Relation between them
In both cases the Soviet Union in 1945, and the Gaza Strip 2015, are
devastated places. Furthermore, in 1945 it was decided by the powers to help
the Soviets so as to re-build the territory and born from ashes. In the other
case, the Gaza Strip, the United Nations warmed the habitants that it will be
and “uninhabitable” place. They are relation in the way that the devastated
territory is game, and the Big Three or United Nations decide what to do with
it, and having lot of resources.
10. Difference between them
I decided to relation the two topics by a different decision that the Powers
took in different occasions, but similar in some ways.
July 1945: The Big Three agree in to be as “a Soviet
sphere of influence”, so as to help the Soviet union
who suffered in a huge way in war.
September 2015: A new report published by the
United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development on assistance to the Palestinian people
warns that the Gaza Strip could become
“uninhabitable” by 2020 if current economic trends
persist.
