4. In this era that movies are popular among people, there are plenty of movie genre to be
choose from. Out of vast choices of movie, superhero movies are one of the all-time favorite.
Batman Trilogy, Avengers, Ironman, Thor and X-men are few of the most notable superhero
movies. I personally love Batman Trilogy and X-men: The Wolverine the most. There are plenty
of similarity between Batman and Wolverine, hence in this essay I’m going to compare the
similarity of these two superhero in aspect of how they gain their ability to fight supervillains,
sidekicks, supervillains and also how they recover themselves from setbacks.
First of all, Batman and Wolverine become stronger by making use of modern
technology. Batman had a lot of gadgets and automobile which he use in fight, for example the
Bat-Darts, A form of tranquilizer darts, EMP Grenade: A small grenade which, once detonated,
destroys all electronics within a seven foot radius which he use when he was surrounded by the
reporters, Batmobile which is his common vehicle and also the new “The Bat” which is an
aircraft which in the end the movie Batman use it to carry the “Neutron Bomb” and detonate it
above the sea and saved the Gotham City. As for Wolverine, his body skeleton and also his claw
was molecularly infused with adamantium which was one of the indestructible man-made alloy.
Due to this coating, his claw was able to cut through almost every known solid.
Next is that every superhero has sidekicks; Batman and Wolverine are no exception.
Batman’s sidekicks in the movie are the well-known butler Alfred Pennyworth, Cat woman
(Selina Kyle) and also Robin (John Blake). Alfred Pennyworth is Batman’s reliable butler and
friend. He was a father-like being to Batman and has always assist him in his mission and also
giving him beneficial advices. Cat woman (Selina Kyle) was at first in the movie a cat burglar,
swindler, and a dangerously seductive woman who establishes a playful, teasing relationship
with Batman. All of the time she was after the “clean state” which was capable of deleting one’s
criminal record and because of this she have cause Batman to fall in to Bane’s trap. However in
the end she know what is the right thing to do so she assisted Batman in saving the Gotham
City. Finally is the famous Robin (John Blake), in this movie Robin was introduced as John Blake
who is a young police officer whose instinct telling him that disaster are about to happen. He
5. plays a role as the messenger of the police force in this movie because most of the police was
trapped underground and he also is the one that made Batman back to action. As for Wolverine,
his sidekick in the movie was Yukio, a precognitive mutant which can foresee one’s death and
she was one of the most deadliest assassin in Shingen’s clan. When she was a child, Yashida
brought her back and to be friend with his granddaughter which was having problem making
friend. In the movie Yukio has helped Wolverine in few occasion, one of the event was she
protected him from Shingen Yashida which was Yashida’s son when Wolverine tried to remove
the parasite that Dr. Green planted in him.
There was a similarity in this two movies which was they had two villains, one was on
the surface and one was the mastermind behind the scene. In the movie, The Dark Knight Rises
Bane was the one on the surface and the mastermind was Miranda Tate/Talia al Ghul.
Miranda/Talia was the daughter of Ra's al Ghul and the leader of the League of Shadows. After
the death of her father she become the heir of her father and desired to destroy Gotham City
with the help of her ally Bane. Bane was originally a member of the League of Shadows but was
expelled. The signature of Bane is that he wore a mask that provided him a pain killing gas to
relieve the pain that he suffers from an injury when trying to help Miranda escape from The Pit.
As for The Wolverine, Yashida, an old friend of Wolverine from the World War II. He wished to
obtain the healing ability of Wolverine in order to achieve immortality as he was afraid of dying
and not willing to left his great fortune behind. So he employed Dr. Green/Viper who was
capable of transplanting one’s ability to another people. Dr. Green was also a mutant that could
produce toxin and has immunity to all kinds of toxin.
Finally is the similarity between the plot of these two movies. Batman and Wolverine
both was weaken by their enemy and they managed to comeback and defeat them despite that.
In Batman’s movie he was defeated by Bane as he was lured to Bane’s trap by Catwoman/Selina
Kyle and his spine was broken by Bane and he was banished to The Pit and see his city destroy
by Bane yet he couldn’t do anything about it. However in The Pit he was encouraged by two
6. others prisoner and with their help Batman trained and recover from the injury done by Bane.
After the training he escapes from the prison and enlists Selina, Blake, Tate, Gordon, and Lucius
Fox to help stop the bomb's detonation. And he found out that Miranda Tate/ Talia al Ghul was
the mastermind behind all this. Similarly Wolverine’s healing ability which that make him
invincible and immortal was temporarily taken away from his by Dr Green. Few day after his
ability was taken away from him he was shot without knowledge that he wasn’t be able to heal
himself anymore. He was helped by Mariko as she found a trainee veterinary to help him
remove the bullets. As he found out that his ability was taken away from him, he went back to
Yashida’s laboratory and saw that there was a parasite in body and he decided to take it out
with his hand. However when he was doing this he was attacked by Shingen Yashida, Yashida’s
son but luckily he was protected by Yukio and he successfully regain his healing ability and he
killed Shingen after that.
There was quite a number of significant similarity in aspect of the character and plot
from these two movies. However I personally prefer Batman movie series over The Wolverine.
Batman movies’ are more creative in the creating villains than The Wolverine movie, villains
plays an important role in a superhero movie. Hence Batman movie is a more favorable choice
for me.
