2. Work History
Comic Fiesta
From its modest debut in 2002, Comic Fiesta has now become one the biggest
Animation, Comic and Games (ACG) convention in South East Asia. It is
considered as the Holy grail for all otakus, cosplayers and gamers not only
from Malaysia, but also from outside the country.
I first volunteered under The Felyne Brigade team in 2013, and returned again
in 2015. The Felyne Brigade is a team-building group that trains volunteers in
handling the end-year event. I had helped checking attendees’ tickets and
guiding attendees throughout the event hall. I had resigned from the team
since 2016 onwards.
AniManGaki
Regarded by most Malaysian cosplayer as the must-go event after Comic
Fiesta, AniManGaki promises to be a more relaxed and chillout ACG event
while keeping the fiery spirit of bigger and more internationally-recognized
ACG conventions such as Comic Fiesta and Anime Festival Asia (AFA)
Singapore, just to name a few.
Since 2014, I had been invited to cover the event under Press pass.
Throughout the two-day event, it is my job to cover the whole atmosphere of
the event from the likes of honourable guests to attended cosplayers, gamers
and doujin creators. I am temporarily taking a break from covering the event
since 2016 due to study commitments.

The whole idea of starting a personal website was first thought during the
early days of my college studies. At first, it was an idea to just simply fill the
time with my own skills and passion for writing. In 2014, I started to create
a personal website using Google’s Blogger as the base. In 2015, I had
acquired a personal domain, later to be used on my Blogger website. This
would allow me to create a more professional-sounding vibe to the website.
Since I do attend several ACG event on the weekend, I would use the website
to write about my coverage of a certain event. Since then, the website had
been branched out to various topics within my personal interest, most notably
about the world of automotive and technology. Apart from Blogger, I was
later exposed to Office Sway. Microsoft’s story telling program could, in
theory, help the readers to have a much more interactive reading experience,
especially on mobile devices.
Unfortunately, my ongoing commitment with the study and group
assignments had left the website all hanging for a long time. Fast forward to
2019, and I am beginning to fully revive the website as I realized that I still
have passion for writing. I am now trying my best to get motivated to go up
a gear and also republishing all the archived posts from Wayback Machine.
3. Sri Manja Boutique Hotel
During the final semester of my Diploma study from November 2017 until
January 2018, I had done my internship at a 3-star boutique hotel nearby the
college located in Kuantan. During the internship, I had been assigned to two
different department doing multiple tasks.
For the first week of internship, I was assigned under the Human Resource
(HR) department as HR Manager Assistant. Under that position, I was
responsible on collecting the applicants’ form and submit the required data
into the database. Other than that, I was also responsible on calling potential
applicant to arrange an interview session with the HR Manager. I was also
responsible on posting job vacancies on sites such as mudah.my.
After a new full-time employee had been selected to fill the Assistant position,
I was switched to work under the Sales Department starting from the second
week until the end of internship. Here, I was responsible for various tasks and
responsibilities. For instance, I will entertain potential clients on the phone
who ask about the quotation for setting up an event at the hotel. Once the
client satisfied with the given offer, I was later required to create a quotation
document detailing all the necessary points such as price division for
reference to the Account Department and the provided menu for Food &
Beverages (F&B) Department.
Apart from dealing with quotation, I was also responsible on promoting event
to the public with fellow employee from Sales and/or Marketing Department.
We would drive to a certain location and try to promote to the public about
the hotel’s upcoming event. On another note, I also occasionally dealt with
Marketing Department’s task about posting the upcoming event on social
media, particularly on Facebook and WhatsApp.
eRezeki-Alegion
Between August 2018 and November 2018, I had applied for a freelance work
under MDEC’s eRezeki in partnership with Alegion. Alegion is an American
company that mainly focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
At the beginning, I had undergone a couple of training about the usage of a
web scraping tool called Parsehub. Once I had passed the qualification, I was
later absorbed as a full-time employee. Here, I was exposed on how to make
use of the tool to identify and collect necessary data from various property
sites. Once I have completed all the required task, I would then save the work
and later uploaded it to Google Drive with a shared link. This would allow the
supervisors and fellow freelancers to access a certain file, which later to be
sent out to a certain client.
One valuable lesson I have learned from this freelance work is that just relying
on deep interest or passion alone isn’t enough, knowledge also plays an
important role. Sadly, I rolled out from the work in November 2018 due to the
fact that I am not fully competent or knowledgeable enough to continue
working on a much harder and more sophisticated property sites.
