1. The better the question. The better the answer.
The better the world works.
Tesseract:
Who will own the Future
of Mobility?

Imagine a future of integrated, on-demand, personalised and autonomous transport

The mobility revolution is well underway – emerging technologies, changing consumer preferences, unsustainable vehicle usage and sector convergence are
forcing players across the automotive and transportation value chain to transform the way they operate in order to stay relevant.
In a world of integrated, on-demand, personalised and autonomous transport, how can players across the value chain address the following challenges?
Integration
In a world of integrated A-to-B mobility,
how do you provide a seamless journey
for the customer? How do you integrate
data, payments, experiences?
Collaboration
In a “many-to-many” world of mobility
provision, how do you establish mutually
beneficial commercial models and create
trust between different parties?
Ownership
In a world beyond personal vehicle
ownership, who will own and operate
mobility assets: (autonomous) vehicles,
shared buses, charging infrastructure,
commercial vehicles?

EY’s integrated mobility platform built to enable disruptive new business models and significantly enhance existing
solutions:
• Single vehicle or fleet owned by a number of owners
• Vehicle assets digitally logged on the blockchain
• Connected car data underpins usage based payments
• Transaction are settled between owners, operators and third party service
providers
Platform
Features
• Enables true peer-to-peer interactions between owners
• Smart contracts facilitate automated permission and transaction
processing
• Minimal infrastructure requirements
• Immutable data record and stored managed securely

v2 use cases: EV ecosystem
We are building out a number of use cases in collaboration with potential partners

v4 use
cases?
v1 use cases: Asset Ownership
Single vehicle, multiple
owners (fractional
ownership)
Many (autonomous)
vehicles, many owners
(crowd-funding,
securitisation)
Asset disaggregation
(e.g. vehicle shell +
battery + autonomous
drive system + …)
Infrastructure funding
(e.g. charging
infrastructure)
v3 use cases: Integrated Mobility
Mobility wallet (a
common mobility
“coin” to pay for
integrated journeys)
Journey orchestration
(smart contracts
between different
transport operators )
Tesseract will be the shared mobility platform on which a number of potential use cases can be built:
Smart Contracting Layer
Tesseract Asset Tokenisation Layer
Cube Cryptocurrency

EY is interested in working with clients across the mobility value chain to launch Tesseract in
market

Core platform
Current Status
Current Status
• EY’s platform is at prototype stage and currently able to support an in-market
experiment with up to 500 users – it is not currently ready to launch at
production scale
• 4 patents filed, more being developed
In-market experimentation
• EY is looking for selected lead clients to jointly validate technology capability,
customer response and operational feasibility
• EY will provide a trial license to the platform during initial experimentation, and
will retain platform developmentand IP
• Additional advisory services e.g. experiment design, service design are to be
carried out during experimentation phase
The future
• Long-termplatform licencing and optional operation
• Additional value-add services: mobility analytics, cross-service-line go-to-
market support (inc. tax, legal, …)
Key considerations
• Experiment design to test the right business models
• Choice of experiment geographyand customer segments
• Protection of EY IP – patents filed
• Contracting – templates being developed
• Personal data security across varying geographies
