i4Trust Goal & Vision
i4Trust is breaking down barriers to data sharing
Our main goal is to boost the development of innovative services around new data value
chains. We achieve this by providing the right tools, education, coaching and initial funding
for the creation of Data Spaces enabling trustworthy and effective data sharing.
Ecosystems of collaborating SMEs and supporting DIHs will emerge in a sustainable way
around such Data Spaces.
i4Trust has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Grant Agreement no
951975.

A data space is an decentralized data ecosystem built
by parties with a common purpose
● Further, it can be defined as a decentralized data
ecosystem built around commonly agreed building
blocks enabling an effective and trusted sharing of
data among participants.
● Data consumers, data providers and identity and
authorisation service providers form an ecosystem
with a governance structure in place to create a
basic data space
● Additionally, service providers like Marketplaces,
Brokers, Billing and Clearing etc. can be part of data
space to support variety of use cases
● In i4Trust iSHARE and FIWARE bring the necessary
components along with basic governance structure
to create the i4Trust data space

Data Space Building Blocks
Data Interoperability
Data Spaces should provide a
solid framework for an efficient
exchange of data among
participants, supporting full
decoupling of data providers
and consumers.
Data Sovereignty and Trust
Data Spaces should bring
technical means for
guaranteeing that participants
in a data space can trust each
other and exercise sovereignty
over data they share.
Data Value Creation
Data spaces should provide
support for the creatio of multi-
sided markets where
participants can generate
value out of sharing data (i.e,
creating data value chains)
Data Spaces Governance
Non technical aspect like
business agreements and
organisational agreements
and a governing body for
data spaces to provide
certainty and sustainability
to its participants

I4trust is Aiming at providing a robust framework for creation of Data Spaces with the main goal of boosting the development of innovative services around new data value chains. The i4trust programme is not just providing the technology for doing so, it is also providing education, coaching and initial funding for experiments that have been selected to test the framework and demonstrate opportunities that data spaces are bringing.
Data spaces created based on the i4trust framework are enabling trustworthy and effective data sharing based on the exchange of digital twin data. And around this framework we are creating a vibrant ecosystem of collaborating SMEs and DIHs that will be supporting the creation of these data spaces and grow of these data spaces
But what is a data space.
Data Spaces are a cornerstone element of the European Union Strategy for Data and they can be defined as a descentralized data ecosystem build by the parties that are in that ecosystem …. It is usually linked to segments or sectors but not the same actors, it is really a data ecosystem where there is common purpose between actors to work (hacer enfasis en esta palabra) together on the same trust level. And this is not possible without an agreement on the technology building blocks, data standards, protocols or connectors. Therefore in i4trust we are sharing and exchangin data with a common purpose.
Those actors build the governance structure to maintain the trust and data sovereignty withing that data space.
In i4trust FIWARE and ishare bring those components to make all this possible and create value from all these data.
This is about real companies working together in an industry where:
Lack of interaction of data , lack of interoperability, lack of transparency and visibility.
Long value chains with hidden data that needs to be unlock
Save money, time, irritation, avoid doing things more than once
Save carbon emmissionn
We need agreement
How are we goning to communicate with each other
How are we going to be sure that we can trust each other
How to create value of my data
What is happening with my data
Who is going to generate value of these data
How are we going to govern that.
it can be defined as a decentralized data ecosystem built around commonly agreed building blocks for:
Data Interoperability: all participants exchange effectively because they speak the same language (Data models and formats defining taxonomy we use to communicate to each other, API how do we reach each other how to get to that data, the proff and trazability of who is actualy interacting with that data)
Sovereignty on Data and Trust: trust of parties accessing data can be verified and access control policies enforced (how do we govern, who can access our data? Where data owners define who can access to his data)
Data Value Creation: Publication and Discovery of data service offerings and means for monetizing data services (how do we bring value to these data?
Governance: adopted agreements for business, operational, and organizational (e.g., governance bodies) aspects (on top of that, the governance structure the agreements and policies)
At operation, data spaces involve actors in different roles:
Data providers and consumers
Trust Anchor service providers
Identity and Authorisation service providers
Marketplace/Broker providers
