school. Moreover, Evan Hudgins gained leadership experience through
his participation in the school's Campus Activity Council and volunteer
service with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS).
Beyond the obviously rewarding experience of making a difference in a
young person's life, there are several benefits to becoming a BBBS
mentor, or "Big." Listed below are four of those benefits.
1. Get a break from thinking about yourself. Rather than expending
mental energy worrying about your own fears, anxieties, and goals,
working with a young person, or "Little," allows you to transcend
egotism and focus on making a positive impact in someone else's life.

 2. Lifelong friendships. Mentor-mentee relationships often
span several years, or even a lifetime. In an article for the
Huffington Post, contributing writer David McMillan explained
that his former mentor, Congressman Adam Schiff, asked him
to attend his wedding and was present at McMillan's
graduation from Yale University.
3. Encounter new perspectives. Chances are you and your
Little will have different life experiences and come from
different backgrounds. Spending time with them can help you
understand a perspective of the world of which you might not
otherwise be aware.
4. Networking. Working with a Little isn't the only aspect of
joining BBBS as a Big. The nonprofit hosts numerous events in
which you can meet and connect with like-minded people.
