Looc is located in a well-protected
bay, which serve as a rich-fishing ground,
making the Municipality a center of trade
and commerce In Southern Tablas.Endowed
with a variety of picturesque land and
seascapes, Looc continues to emerge as a
tourist destination. The marine reserve and
sancturaries, which gained national
distinction as one of the country's best
programs in 2000, makes it an ideal place
for snorkeling, diving and fish feeding. All
are invited to come and discover the
unspoiled nature of this town which also
serves as an entry and exit point to
Boracay.
Looc is from the Filipino/Onhan word look,
meaning "bay", referring to the body of water the town
encloses. The first settlers of Looc where Onhan-
speaking tribes from Panay Island which came around
1730. The settlement was originally a barrio of the
pueblo (town) of Cabolutan (located in present-day San
Agustin) until 1790, when the town's population was
wiped-out by a smallpox epidemic and the town was
abolished. The abolition transferred Looc under the
administration of pueblo de Banton in Banton Island. In
the early 1800s, the settlement continued to progress
and increase its population.
Thus, in 1844, Spanish colonial authorities
converted Looc into a full-pledged pueblo. Back then, Looc
was still part of Capiz province, until 19 March 1853, when
Romblon was officially declared a district separate from
Capiz, and finally a full-pledged province in 1868. Looc was
one of the first four municipalities of the newly created
province of Romblon, the other three being Romblon
(capitol), Banton, and Sibuyan (Cajidiocan). It then
comprised the territories of what is now the
municipalities of Alcantara and Santa Fe, and Carabao
Island. Looc would lose these territories during the
American colonial period beginning in 1901.
LOOC MARINE SANCTUARY
Looc Marine Sanctuary on Tablas Island, Romblon, is
one of the longest standing tourism attractions on the island. It
was established in 1999 and is home to more than 100 different
species of fish and sea creatures. Tourism is still pretty low
key on Tablas Island today so it’s pretty amazing that the
sanctuary was started in 1999.
Entrance: Php 100.00

Looc, Romblon's version of Suman. Sticky rice
cooked in coconut milk, and sugar. A delicacy of the
town.Looc's Suman is somewhat similar to Tanjay's
budbod. finger-size, but Tanjay Negros Oriental's
version uses millet instead of Rice
SUMAN
Sihi Shell
Sihi, a local edible shellfish. One cannot normally eat
by sucking it out of its shell, but instead, with an aid of a pin,
you slowly pick the meat out. When fishermen aren’t able to
get a good catch of fish for the day, they would often resort
to looking for these shells by the shore.
Often cooked in coconut milk, you can find them in carinderias
in Looc Town.
Sarsa
Sarsa is a local dish found only in Romblon also in Looc
The dish is made out of small shrimps caught in streams, mixed
with young coconut and chili. It is then wrapped in coconut
leaves, giving it that local touch. You eat the dish paired with
rice. Best to buy early in the morning before it runs out. It can
be found in their local carinderia and wet markets.

When fishermen aren’t able to get a good catch of fish for the day, they would often resort to looking for these shells by the shore. Often cooked in coconut milk, you can find them in carinderias in Looc Town.
