2. John Wood
• John Wood is the founder and board co-chair of room to read,
a global organisation focused on literacy in education in Asia
and Africa that has reached over six million children. He is also
the author of "Creating Room to Read: A Story of Hope in the
Battle for Global Literacy", Leaving Microsoft to Change the
World: An Entrepreneur's Odyssey to Educate the World's
Children and the children's book Zak the Yak with Books on His
Back. He is a member of the Clinton Global initiative's Advisory
Board and is a frequent lecturer at Harvard’s Graduation of
education and NYU’s Stern school of business.

• Projects sponsored by UNESCO include literacy, technical, and
teacher-training programmes; international science
programmes; the promotion of
independent media and freedom of press, regional and
cultural history projects; the promotion of culture diversity,
translations of world literature; international cooperation
agreements to secure the world cultury and natural heritage
and to preserve human rights, and attempts to bridge
the worldwide digital divide. It is also a member of the united
nations development group
• UNESCO’s aim is "to contribute to the building of peace, the
eradication of poverty, sustainable development and
intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences,
culture, communication and information".
4. History/Impact of John Wood’s
Campaign
• In 2001, Erin Ganju became the co-founder and chief
operating officer and did a big part in expansion at vietnam, at
which the organization officially became “room to read”
• In 2002, they celebrated one of their first major programmatic
milestone by opening their 1000th library in Cambodia.
