PT Assistant / PT Head Cashier / PT Checkout Supervisor /
FT Night Supervisor
Mar 1995 to Nov 1999
I worked at Booker Cash & Carry for five years. I started at booker part-time while studying at college. I
stocked shelves, faced up shelves, worked on reception, worked on checkout and also participated in various
cleaning duties.
After two years, I worked full-time on days for 6 months before going back on part-time due to taking up
a college course (GNVQ Leisure & Tourism). This job also gave me the experience of working as part of a team
and I also gained different skills such as printing out tickets, random stock-takes and computer skills.
After three years I was promoted to part-time head cashier with supervisory responsibilities. I had to
collect money together and put it into bags to be picked up. I also had to count cash (in excess of £100,000) and
balance books, help cashiers cash up and check it for mistakes and I had to work as a checkout supervisor from
time to time.
After four years I was promoted to full time nightshift supervisor. I worked in this role when the nightshift
manager and deputy night shift manager was off. I had the responsibility of being a key-holder for the building. I
had to go on a course to learn how to drive the forklift truck. After passing this course I drove the forklift
regularly in order to load and unload pallets in and out of the building. I was in charge of the running of the
warehouse when I was running the shift.
