The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a private,
non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the
standardization and conformity assessment system.
The Institute oversees the development of thousands of
standards that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector.
The ANSI Federation is comprised of government agencies,
organizations, corporations, academic and international bodies,
and individuals. In total, the Institute represents the interests of
more than 125,000 companies and 3.5 million professionals.
ANSI actively engages in accrediting programs that assess
conformance to standards.
ANSI is the official U.S. representative to the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) and, via the U.S. National
Committee, the International Electro technical Commission
(IEC).
8. What does ANSI do
Represents U.S globally.
Ensure integrity of the standards and conformity
assessment system.
Bridge between U.S public and private sectors.
ANSI is often asked about the total number of standards
(and standards setting bodies) in the United States.
ANSI facilitates the development of American National
Standards (ANS) by accrediting the procedures of standards
developing organizations.

ANSI homeland defense and security standardization
collaborative (HDSSC).
ANSI Nanotechnology standards panel (ANSI-NSP).
ID theft prevention and ID management standards
panel(IDSP).

collaborative (EESCC).
Nuclear energy standards coordination collaborative
(NESCC).

Electric vehicles standards panel (EVSP)
ANSI-NAM, network on chemical regulation
ANSI biofuels standards coordination panel
Healthcare information technology standards panel
(HITSP)
Each of the panels works to identify, coordinate and
harmonize voluntary standards relevant to these areas.
12. Guiding principles of ANSI
